Dany has always been callous and ruthless against people she considers to be her enemies. She was in season 2 and she still is.

Her "crazyness" hasn't really increased, and it really should be clear to everyone at this stage, including the most adamant Daenerys-hater that this show already has a mad queen, who's currently sitting in Kings Landing.

I'm genuinely looking forward to see how Daenerys will continue react to people who openly dislike her without being her enemies. If anything, she seemed more restrained than usual in S801.

Honestly I feel like the Targaryen madness is one of the lies that the realm tells itself, so it won't have to face the truth.  That being the king of an entire continent is too much for one person and most inevitably crack from the pressure.  Add in the importance of the Targaryen line (and the forced incest) and it really proves too much.

Dany isn't mad, she is emotional and impulsive.  The show doesn't do a very good job showing this because the directors seem to want people to think Dany is going mad and play up that angle.

Even earlier than that even. In S1/AGoT we have her dragging the wine seller behind her horse when he’s caught trying to poison her. Naked, no less. And then ofc she sacrificed MMD.

She wasn’t mad then, and she still isn’t.

Care to elaborate? Why do you think the is going nuts? We already have 1 mad queen (Cersei), why would Dany be a second one?

all of season 7 she thought tyrion was betraying her and there was no evidence that he was.

You can’t be serious? Tyrion gave her nothing but one bad plan after another, and it was completely obvious he was not fully committed to going against his family. There was plenty of reasons for Dany to be suspicious of him. He’s been a terrible Hand for her so far.

True. Seeing Tyrion as a questionable hand is completely justified and a sane reaction.

Hm, well, Daenerys is certainly a complex and difficult character. She is a prime example for "good intentions are the opposite of good deeds". She is almost bipolar in her reactions, from wanting to free and help people vs. cruelty and torture without the slightest remorse.

Daenerys is depicted as on the border between sane and mad -- "mad" in the sense of callousness, cruelty and acceptance of mass killings. Sometimes I think the "mad king" shines up in her actions, then again she is reasonable and interested in people's well-being. Very difficult, and maybe that is exactly what madness is all about.

lolwut?

As for Varys, what about it?
Not only was he good sport about it, but treason being met with execution or lifetime in prison is nothing strange, not even in the real world.

Burning is Daenerys choice of execution, just like it was for Stannis, and how beheading is the choice for Jon, drowning is the way of the Iron Isles and (allegedly) having their throat sliced is the choice for Sansa/Arya (might be a one time-thing, but still.)
Remember how Jon executed Janos Slynt for mere insubordination? That's a far cry from actual betrayal.

No, they are not going to make Dany the mad queen at the last minute after portraying her as a liberator, and savior this entire series. She's not nor ever was a Mary Sue character, who does no wrong. She's a complex character who makes hard decisions and actions that leaders often have to make, no different than what our leaders do. Truman with Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Obama with drone strikes, Churchill and how he dealt with the subcontinent etc.

Did you notice the self-satisfied smirk on her face when her dragons flew over immediately after Jon reminded her that northeners don't like outsiders?

Her answer to Sansa's question about what dragons eat...her actions were restrained, but the underlying attitude still seems to be there.

I did notice it, and saw nothing wrong with it. Dragons are source of "wonder and awe", and she got to see it in action.
She looked more like a proud mom than someone who reveled in scaring commoners.

Her answer to Sansas question was legit, because given the context, Sansas question was stupid and slightly arrogant, as she didn't even bother looking at Daenerys when she asked.

That's what I thought momentarily, but proud mothers smile, they don't smirk.

Yes, on the one hand Sansa was being petty, but on the other hand not, since they are faced with the very real possibility that the dragons will eat all the livestock which is there to feed the people. Dany's answer confirmed that she has no control over what they eat (remember what happened in Essos). She could have said simply that they hunt for their own food, but she took Sansa's bait and was clearly pleased with herself.

Good description of her bipolar qualities.
