I honestly refuse to believe that the Others are done as a threat.  It really makes no sense having Cersei be the show's true villain.  This is pathetic writing!

If it is this way in the show it has to be this way in the books, too, doesn't it?. And why the surprise, wasn't it obvious that Cersei would be the big bad since, well, she decided not to support them against the Lich King?

But that Cersei is *never* going to be a competent enough threat for the great finale of ASoIaF is equally clear, no? Euron might, though. In the books he is the greatest mortal threat we have seen so far. And he will likely hook up with Cersei, so if she sticks around till the end she certainly will remain a nuisance until her death.

Not remotely true. In the "Inside the Episode" segment Dan and Dave say they knew Arya was going to be the one to kill the Night King for about 3 years (ie, not when GRRM told them his plans for the end of the book series). I mean, the Night King doesn't even exist in the book series at the moment, so this whole war against the Others might play out differently in the book series.

Return the favor to Dany by helping her get the throne in return for her support for saving the North.

Dany's out.  Her army is wiped out, and she has no title to the throne.  She's a queen no more, just like that.  Her best hope is that Aegon still loves her.

I think he's gonna be all "too many people have died, hasn't Westeros bled enough?" and try to talk Dany down from attacking KL (like he did in S7).

If D&D really wanna get mad stupid with it, they can have Jon pull a Ned by meeting with Cersei to try and reason with her to spare lives.  Avoid Robert's Dany's wrath...we all know how that would go.  Cersei has a space in the dungeons for you, Lord Know Nothing.

Dany won't attack anything.  She has no army, down to one dragon, Jorah's dead.  The crying scene over Joran's body is the end of her.  She won't request anyone to bend the knee any more.

The show did not sort out Aegon's parentage with Sansa and Arya.  That's coming up.  He must go for the throne, it's his.  He will have to ask the North for help, Sansa and Arya.

Have you not watched the episode 4 preview?

Both dragons are alive and flying in it.  Dany's (still large) fleet is shown, she's still got some Unsullied, and the Northmen appeared to be cheering her.

She has an army, and she has every intention of using it against Cersei.  Jon was with her on Dragonstone in one of the earlier teasers, so he's going with her for all this.

Yup, Dany sacrificed almost a 100k men to help save the North, and the Northmen are embracive and grateful to her in the preview for it. She still has her Unsullied and 2 Dragons, with Jon and his men in toe.
