Forlong the Fat
In this episode as in Hardhome the Night King gives Jon a meaningful glance. And he was concerned enough about Jon that he set his one dragon to either hold Jon in check or kill him. Having done this, the Night King seems completely confident in his safety. He apparently didn’t think about Arya at all or, at least not that she would attack him or, if she did, that she could kill him. So we saw was a subversion of the typical trope—Luke Skywalker’s engines break down before he can fire the winning shot. Maybe that means Jon was not AA to begin with. Or maybe there isn’t just one hero. Melisandre said (and appeared to believe) that Stannis was AA, and then Jon, and she certainly thought Arya was something important when she first saw her. Maybe all three of those people, and others perhaps, could’ve filled the role if events unfolded correctly. They don’t kill the Night King because they’re AA, but rather they’re AA because they kill the Night King.
