What if Drogo gave the eggs to Dany instad of Illyrio

Recommended Posts

We know that GRRM was looking for ways that the dragon's eggs find their way to Dany. Even among the ideas was that Dany randomly stumbles upon them in the Dothraki Sea. In the end, he settled for Illyrio, which has probably given him more than a headache and fuelled speculations about Illyrio's intentions. It has also created world building problems. In AGOT the eggs were just jewels, costly, but not uncommon. Now, it seems that there are quite unique and the main source are actually Targaryen's eggs.

Why didn't GRRM settled on Drogo? What would be implication of Drogo giving the dragon's eggs to Dany?

1) Precedence should be answered. The eggs could come either from a sacking of a city (which one?) or were a gift from someone important (Dothraki receive gifs and give them).

2) Intentions. It would have fuelled good discussions about that. Maybe Drogo interpreted correctly that the TSWMW prophesy is related to dragons and thus he needs a son with Valyrian blood to fulfill it.  As with prophesies, he couldn't have predicted that Dany herself was meant to be TSWMW and not his son.

Khal Drogo would have procured the eggs with the intent to present them as valuable jewels to a Targaryen princess.  He would not expect them to hatch.  But it's not really important how the eggs came to Daenerys.  Daenerys Targaryen is Azor Ahai and she would have gotten her eggs to hatch because ASOIAF would be a different story otherwise.

So far as the stallion who will mount the world, yes, gender bias crept into the prophecy.  But as we know, dragons are without gender, they can change.  Valyrian is a fluid language that is neutral with regards to gender.  So yeah, the stallion that mounts the world is Daenerys on Drogon's back.  The prophecy is correct because the soul of Rhaego is a part of Drogon.  Rhaego is the son of Drogo so you could say Khal Drogo lives on in Drogon.  Viserys, Drogo, and Rhaego, kings all, paid for the return of the dragons.

Dany is my favorite person to discuss.  Let's do this.  I don't know why George would create a situation where a Dothraki Horselord would know the significance of dragon eggs.  The Dothraki are a horse people.  Drogo had no desire to conquer the world.  They don't even want to leave the Dothraki Sea.  Dany was supposed to find those eggs in the plains of Essos.  The Alisa Farman story was created later to explain the source.

This.  Dany will get those eggs because this is what the story is all about.
