Confusion about Character Arcs

Recommended Posts

Character arc and story arc should be the intertwined or your overall plot will be fubar’d which is exactly what happened.

Character arcs are about an INNER transformation -- "Often leading from one personality trait to a diametrically opposite trait"  They're not about achieving something externally.

No they aren't. They're simply a character's trajectory through a story.

Some characters never change, inside or out. They still have arcs.

First of all if that is his name in books then Rheagar was a bigger idiot than I thought! Why name both sons the same name?!

So his daughter could say to people, "My name is Rhaenys. This is my brother Aegon, and this is my other brother Aegon."

Yep - character is plot and plot is character. And they should both, in a story with a point, service that point.

Sure, a girl who goes to the city looking for fame and falls in love is a character arc but using that arc to try and explain the horrors of war makes little sense.
