Begs the question, though What would happen to them if there should be no more cities to destroy?

If there were no place to buy steel, to sell slaves? They didn't destroy all Essos cities in their range.

So it's not random or complete destruction. There's a method. They need some of their prey to endure so they can collect tribute, keep their targeting and exploitation of settlers.

Same way hunter-gatherers would migrate to avoid 'drying out' their resources. Eventually they'd return.

But my question was in case of an unprecedented catastrophe that would abolish or even seriously compromise civilization in a widespread area instead of something quite localized like the Doom. Say Winter?

Would the horde be the better adapted by 'virtue' of their predatorial lifestyle or would the eventual depletion of their usual hunting grounds finally push them? To what? More war? Like they're such a cuddly people? I don't know. Your thoughts?

They pretend it's a sin to cut the skin of the Earth. If so they would not limit their predation to preserve their preys. They are just hypocrites.

If civilization was completely erased, I suppose they would survive... better than others. By themselves, without steel, without slaves. Until others, if they can, restore some order of civilization.

Another question: What happens when the more technologically advanced cities develop advanced weapons (eg. explosives, more efficient, smaller scorpions, better siege weaponry etc) and started attacking them instead of trading with them? They will have to change their ways or perish.

Dunno? Much as I wouldn't take it as gospel, you could sideways compare them to the Wraith in Stargate:Atlantis? Maybe the culling effect of their predation delays or even stalls development in those they prey upon? Or even worse, seen as we're on a roll here and have pointed out the hypocrisy in their ways? Did they specifically target cities that might be growing, and as such, or due to difficulty itself, possibly developing technologically, to raze them?

Yeah, exactly.  It makes no sense to me that the whole civilization would be wiped out just because the warriors were.

Not the first time D&D have assumed this (eg: The disappearing Stormlanders, Reachers and Riverlanders).

How can they all be dead when she waa speaking Dothraki to them and we see a bunch of them cheer her speech?

Pretty sure it was Valyrian, which is even dumber, as the dothraki present cheer like they know what she's saying.

'IT'S JUST GENERIC FOREIGN CONLANG, THE VIEWERS WON'T NOTICE' - David Benioff, probably.

Ah, when something as simple as the abhorred lowkey subtitle claiming: (speaks dothraki), (speaks valyrian), (speaks effin english - for other audiences) would've done the same. After all, it's not like the author of the works being adapted ever toiled to create a complex world of different cultures, ethnicities, languages, history, mythology, etc.

@BalerionTheCat seems pretty sure it was Valyrian and then dothraki. Though how they cheered for the bits spoken in the other groups' language makes one go a bit 'meh'.

I have to check but I think we had this subtitle ("elle parle en valyrian") in the French broadcast. French audience have no problems with subtitles.

Thanks!

Neither do the Portuguese. After all, we subtitle every broadcast needing a translation. But the network I saw it on failed to deliver that detail, so either the audience was supposed to be really into it and recognize the phonetics of dothraki and valyrian or the 'speaks weirdstuff - focus on unsullied, then still speaks weirdstuff - focus on dothraki' was supposed to be the way for us to see it? The fact that people are confused enough to nitpick might say it wasn't the best way..

Some cities might be away from their reach to raze. Eg. Westeros. They could sell their weapons to the free cities in Essos. I ask because I really don't see how the dothraki lifestyle is sustainable for more than a 100 yrs or so.

The other way around. Dothraki then Valyrian.

She started by "Qoy Qoyi", which is "blood of my blood" in Dothraki. The camera was focussing on them. And they understood pretty well.

Then after talking specifically to Grey Worm, she addressed the Unsullied by "Dovoghedhi". Which is also easy to recognize. They also reacted to her speech, thought much less vocallyy:).

Yeah. Depletion of ressources is something that we're all being slapped in the face with daily. Such a large scale predation and overall wastefulness made me cringe.

Historically speaking the nomadic horse warriors of the Eurasian steppes interacted with the settled peoples of China, India, Persia, Arabia, Rome for thousands of years.  When one of the tribal confederations were pushed off the steps either they asked one of the settled Empires for land to settle on or they just settled down and assimilated into the settled population of a land the conquered.  For example the Magyars when pushed off the steps were given land by the Byzantine empire and became the Hungarians.  The Uighurs were assimilated into the Western Chinese empire (where they are currently being persecuted by the PRC).  The Turkish tribes conquered Asia Minor from the Byzantine empire and eventually settled down with the much larger host population to become the core of the Ottoman Empire and now modern Turkey.

I should add that the last of the historical horse nomads were in countries that fell under communism.  The communists collectivized their herds in the name of creating a classless socialist paradise and the horse nomads that didn't go into the collective farms died in a famine which killed millions.
