Knight Of Winter
I'm currently making a quiz for ASOIAF - the book series, not the show - and as always, I'm looking to make questions cool, interesting and requiring good knowledge of the books. So, I'd like to ask anyone who's willing to help. What cool, unusual, deep or interesting piece of ASOIAF plot or lore do you think would make a good quiz question? Feel free to be creative. Any help is appreciated
Euron III Greyjoy
What level of difficulty are you looking for here? Are you thinking something along the lines of "What is the name of the dwarf Tyrion travels with in ADwD?", or "Name the cities in Sothoryos". Moderate to slightly hard - questions which readers who casually read the books once would not know most of the time, but which average e.g. forum contributor would usually know. And related exclusively to the main series and information available there - so no F&B, TWOIAF, PATQ, D&E novellas and such.

I just realized this could have two answers. I was thinking of the giant chain, used to trap ships in the harbor. Tyrion also instructs Ser Jacelyn Bywater to have the City Watch guards practice using trebuchets to ensure that the wildfire grenades will be targeted accurately. At the time of Aegon's arrival to Westeros, Iron Islands and Riverlands were parts of the same Kingdom, ruled by Harren Hoare, King of the Isles and the Rivers. And when Aegon burned Harrenhal, Riverlands separated from Iron Islands. Riverlands became a Kingdom, and Iron Islands didn't. That's because Riverlanders supported Aegon, and opposed King Harren. So afterwards they were given preferential treatment. Aegon made Edmyn Tully liege lord of Riverlands, and named him Lord Paramount of the Trident. Ironborn were supporting Harren, so they were burned together with him, and from their swords Aegon made his Throne. And afterwards Iron Islands were not given status of a Kingdom, unlike other regions of Westeros.

Joff wore his mothers sigil next to his fathers, Stark did not You're wrong about nearly all of that. Read the history. And re-read the main series books too, because you didn't understand, what was the dynamics between Robb and Tullys during the War of Five Kings. They became his vassals because they sort of made together a "new Kingdom" - fusion of The North and Riverlands. Robb and Tullys named him not only King of the North, but also King of the Trident. Riverlanders crowned Robb as King of Riverlands, that's why Tullys became his bannermen, even though he was Northern Lord and they were not Northerners. And about Harren - he was the King of Isles AND RIVERS. He was Ironborn, but he conquered Riverlands, and made them part of his territory. But when Aegon burned Harren, Ironborn lost their control over Riverlands. Before Harren and his predecessors, that territory belonged to Storm Kings. The lands that were under rule of Storm Kings were significally larger than current Stormlands, they also included Riverlands, what is now Crownlands, and part of The Reach. Hoare Kings took away Riverlands from Storm Kings, Gardener Kings took away western part of Storm Kings' territory and those lands became part of The Reach, and Aegon, after his arrival, took away part from Storm King Argilac Durrandon's lands and turned them into Crownlands. Also there are only four Wardens, like four parts of the world - North, South, West, East. House Stark are Wardens of the North (i.e. northern part of continent Westeros), not Wardens of The North (as a region or one of Seven Kingdoms). Warden of the South is one of Houses from The Reach. Wardens of the West are Lannisters. Wardens of the East are Arryns. Wardens of the North (not The North as a region) are Starks. Besides those four major Wardens, there are smaller titles that are also Wardens, but their purpose is lesser. Like Warden of the Southern Marches, Warden of the Sands, Warden of the White Knife. So it's understandable that neither Greijoys nor Tullys are not Wardens. So back to the beginning - in Westeros there are 9 regions, but only 7 of those regions are "Kingdoms", and Iron Islands are not one of those Kingdoms. Poor Edmure, man had no choice. He was a prisoner untill Robb freed him, then Robb sat in Hosters chair while Bracken Blackwood and Mallister made Robb king. What choice did Edmure have? In fact, most things with Robbs kingdom is confusing. He tried to give Balon a crown and lamented that he didnt send Sansa to the Reach. Yes, Warden titles are not entirely hereditary (though under normal circumstances they do pass from father to son, like after death of Jon Arryn, for short period of time, Robert Arryn was Warden of the East, that's what King Roberts said in Ned's chapter in crypts). That's why now Petyr Baelish is the Warden of the East, and Roose Bolton is the Warden of the North, because the King decides to whom that title should pass, either to the heir of the previous Warden, or to someone else.
