[Spoilers] Episode 804 Discussion

For anyone wondering why Jon and Dany can't just marry and call it a day. Here's my answer.

Dany doesn't want to share power. Period. In her mind, she is that awesome Chosen One, destined to bring balance happyness to the Force  7 Kingdoms, and only she and she alone have the right to do so. No one else, not even a loved one, not even fellow Targ.

Yea. it's pretty dumb, but that's how it is. I was hoping Dany will have enough character development to move past that notion, but alas, no such luck. Maybe in the books. Assuming same events occur there. Assuming the books will ever come out.

Dany knows they are all Targ enemies.  She knows it.  He does not get it.  Dany isn't about her power any more.

Dany has a good instinct to kill off her enemies but love and politics got in the way.

With Sansa and Cersei love and politics don't get in the way, they tools to kill of the enemy.

At least for now, I'm exactly the opposite. I hated last week unbelievably. But sending Ghost to the north where he belongs instead of dragging the poor guy to his doom in the south makes perfect sense to me, the sign of a caring and compassionate friend.

Tragic that he won't realize until it's too late that all that applies to him, too.

A caring and compassionate friend would have petted his loyal dog/direwolf before leaving!

So, in open airspace with freedom of movement the show just established that large crossbows that manually fire single bolts from moving boats in the sea have superiority over dragons.

Got it.

Ring the gong.

Well, luckily ther were lesser waves than in my bathtub...

I think we should stop trying to find any small, single piece of logic in the scripts, I just let me entertain by the pictures.
Euron on big-bird-hunt was funny to see.

Nothing more.

Im surprised at how stupid Daenerys was thinking that they could just return to Dragonstone. Of course Cersei was going to have some sort of measures in place they for if they tried to return!

Jaime was originally being smart when he decided to stay at Winterfell, but Cersei has always been his one weakness. I don't think he will go running back to her, not after everything she's done. But they do have unfinished business. Maybe he has finally realised that she is no good for him. He was happier with Brienne for one night then he seemed with Cersei for all those years.

I can see Daenerys point about Jon not being able to control what happens if the truth about him came out, but at the same time, she doesn't have the right to make him hide who he is. He has done that for years already. I'm glad he told Arya. I wish he hadn't told Sansa Bc anyone would have guessed she would go blabbing to Tyrion. I'm assuming thats how he found out anyway?

I feel a bit sorry for Gendry. I think he just got really excited when Daenerys legitimized him and probably took it a little too far by proposing to Arya. Maybe after she's killed Cersei?

Daenerys seems to be losing this war. I know Missendei wasn't exactly important in the war effort, but she was Daenerys most loyal advisor, if killing anyone would make her want revenge, its her. Cersei is twisted. She is so desperate to hold onto the throne that she doesn't care if there is no one left to rule over in the end. Problem is, Daenerys wants the same, so that could make for a dangerous combination.

Tyrion is sticking by Daenerys now, but I think maybe he secretly thinks that Jon would make a better ruler. Jon will never take the throne while Daenerys is alive.

Also, is that all Arya gets? A thank you from Daenerys and a cheer? She killed the Night King, I think she deserves more recognition than that. Even Jon argued that it was Daenerys who saved them. C'mon man, it was Arya who saved them.

Good call, although I can't been able to figure out her Bronn angle yet.

I still think Qyburn did that of his own volition because we never hear Cersei talking about it.

Yeah, in the very beginning when the Lannister boys were having fun. In this show it is the silent moments I love the best.

I thought that Dany was realizing that she is the only one without real friends. Even Missendei is her employee.

Great take.

I think ultimately Jon will find this an unacceptable situation.   I predict Dany surprises everyone and finds a way to take the throne without killing a bunch of civilians...largely because I hope that they don't cheapen her story by making her out as another mad Targ.

I think Drogon will die in episode 5 and Dany will have to figure out how to be a queen without dragons. That’s when she will become better at building relationships with Jon and Sansa, among others.

1. Good question. I can’t see a reason other than her impatience... Jon/ the northern armies must be at least a week away?

I think that Kings Landing has to be attacked by land and sea at the same time, for it to be effective, right? I feel like we learned that from Stannis.

Sacrifices to the Drowned God were apparently made by slitting the throats of victims and tossing them into the sea. This reputedly made the Drowned God stronger.  Rhaegal certainly had his throat slashed and he plunged into the sea.  What if the Drowned God considered this a sacrifice and brings Rhaegal back on behalf of Yara, not only to assist her but to punish Euron, who shows contempt and lack of faith towards the Drowned God.  Even Euron's words, that he saw Rhaegal fall into the sea with his own eyes shows that he doesn't even give credence, nor consider the implications of what he witnessed and the potential.

Maybe a crack pot theory but there is this from the Lore:  "What is dead may never die" is a common saying in the religion of the Drowned God on the Iron Islands. The answer to the phrase is "But rises again harder and stronger." In the episode the phrase is begun by Theon Greyjoy during his baptism and completed by the Drowned Priest conducting the ceremony.

Probably just wishful thinking on my part.  :/

I thought something similar! The old gods have shown their abilities via Bran, R’hlor through bringing people back from the dead. I thought it would be a shining moment for the Drowned God, but I thought it in connection with Tyrion. I thought he would drown and then come back up riding Rhaegal. Clearly did not happen, but an undrowned Rhaegal still could! That could be what inspires Euron’a fear in the preview.

Missendei’s last moment was nicely done. Just before she said it, I said Dracarys. Perfect last word.

In real life , Jon and Dany should have just married and been done with fights over claims by now, but I appreciate the desire of D&D to keep the tension going until 15 minutes before the end of the series, so I will give them a pass. (Last 15 minutes will be used to tie bows on everything.) Same is true for Jaime and his mysterious intentions. He will definitely kill Cersei but I get that they have to keep Arya in the mix.

I think it would be hilarious to bring Daario back now that Dany is with Jon.

Did Dany get the prophecy with 3 fires, mounts, and treasons in the show? I can’t remember. If so, have we seen them come true?

I liked that as soon as he became her equal, Gendry asked Arya to marry him.

Glad that Varys finally got some useful lines!

Yeah, she wants the throne, she doesn't want to share it. She believes its her birth rite, but the thing is, it's actually notnher birth rite anymore. So now her main goal is to take the throne as quickly as possible before it all comes out and ruins her claim. Bc more people in Westeros will support Jons claim over hers and she knows it.

The list of embarrassing failures since she arrived in Westeros, even if Tyrion was responsible for a few, clearly indicate she's too stupid to be an effective ruler. Without dragon she's nothing.

Next candidate up please.

Oh heck, let's just keep Cersei. Is she really all that bad?

Actually, I think she explained it quite well in her scene with Jon.  Others will conspire, regardless of what Jon wants.

So how exactly will the fight go now? Last Season Cersei seemed way to weak to fight Dany, then they had Tyrion butcher Dany's armys and she went North to make the armys (surprisingly even).

Now it seems Cersei is unstoppable and even Drogon is no real danger.

I see only 2 options:

1. Arya will kill Cersei (also: green eyes, also:also: only me or did Danys eyes look green aswell here?)

2. More interesting imo: How does Tyrion know Cersei is pregnant (ofcourse cause she told him before) but from Euron POV he should not be able to know right? So maybe thats a reason for Euron to turn on Cersei, because its not his child and he lied. I actually thought in that scene right there that he would act on Tyrion or Cersei atleast should have tried to stop him because of that.

That is not autocratic. What is it is called rule of law. Every single last communal organization of humans that exists or has ever existed -- from prehistoric family units to modern nation-states -- has had a "do as I say or face the consequences" clause in their code of conduct.

Every single last one of them.

If you find rule of law and the law's ability to punish those who trepass said rule of law autocratic, then you're probably an anarchist who wants everyone to be free to do as they feel more or less.

She is not just putting her ambitions ahead of "what is right." She is also putting the greater good and peace ahead of it. She is also prioritizing the love they have for each other over it.

Frankly, Daenerys is walking in Ned Stark's footsteps.

Should Ned Stark have told Robert Baratheon, Jon Arryn and/or Tywin Lannister about Jon? Should he have told Catelyn?

Daenerys Targaryen? A coward? LMAO never mind, I'll stop right there. There's no use in talking about the beauty of the Mona Lisa with person who is blind and deaf.

Rule of Law? Whose law?

Daenerys has less of a claim than Jon, if we are going by law.

The fact that Ned lied about Jon is not a moral basis for the lie Daenerys wants to perpetrate.

Jon is making a choice between love and power. Chooses Love, giving up his better claim to the throne.

Daenerys is also making a choice between love and power. She chooses power. And that choice in her mind justifies John giving up his better claim, the self acknowledged fact that people in Westeros (her future subjects) love him better, the perpetration of a lie (that Jon has a better claim), and that to "liberate" the people of Westeros she will have to burn them all. Killing masses of people for a higher aim is no virtue (Oh but Daenerys wants to "liberate" the people!) reminds me of the Cambodian genocidal regime that killed millions to create an agrarian socialist paradise.

I don't want Daenerys to sit in the throne. But I do want her to win. Cersei is all that bad, she will destroy anyone, innocent or otherwise to get her own way, in some ways Daenerys is quite similar. But Daenerys winning means Cersei is off the throne. With all of the people fighting on Daenerys' side, one of them would make a much better ruler. Cersei doesn't care about the 7 Kingdoms. She cares about herself and her power. Thats it. Daenerys claims she does care, but its hard to know she means that right now.

Was there a previous scene where Varys overheard someone talking about Jon’s parentage?  In his conversation with Tyrion, it’s pretty apparent that he already knew Jon’s secret.  I suppose he’s a spymaster and all, so it really isn’t a surprise, but I’m just wondering if the show had a scene setting up how Varys became aware of it.

I thought it was obvious that Tyrion must have told Varys.

Possibly. Although I wouldn't refer to Missandei as her employee, just that Missandei owns her freedom to Dany, a debt that cannot easily be repaid. It is difficult for Dany to meet someone on equal terms.
