Rant & Rave Without Repercussion [book and show spoilers]

Recommended Posts

People are right about Greyjoy not just having access to spy satellites that allow him to pinpoint the location of Dany's fleet, he also had a Klingon cloaking device that prevented Dany from detecting his fleet before bumping onto it... But at this point, I am already used to magical ships, so it doesn't bother too much...

What does bother me are the giant super ballistas... They are ridiculous... they are WAY more powerful than XVIII century naval artillery... why did people even bother to invent gunpowder, when they had ballistas like these?

And even if we accept their ridiculous power, it should take forever to reload them, and they should the hard to aim, and not very accurate... They are too good.

And even if we accept their power, accuracy and reload speed... they don't look like they should be able to aim towards the stern, or upwards... all Dany had to do was to fly upwards and attack the ships from behind, but she choose to charge head on!

Another thing that bothers me is how stupid everybody has become:

1.-Sansa. Why the hell does she antagonize Dany so much?. Even if she doesn't like her, even if she doesn't trust her, she DOES need her. She needed her army and dragons to beat the Night King's undead army, and she needs her to defeat Cersei. She should smile at her even if she hated her in her heart. What does she expect Jon to do? To turn against Dany, ensuring that the winner of the battle between Cersei and Dany will crush Winterfell?

2.-Varys. What's the point of supporting Jon now? Nobody will believe that he is a Targaryen... at the very least, wait until he is married to Dany and has a child with her, and then assassinate her if you must... And if he refuses to marry his own aunt, try to nudge him into accepting... it is the shortest, easiest way to put him on the throne...

3.-Bronn. What does he expect to happen? If Tyrion and Jamie don't have Bronn murdered, they are stupid. By the way... how the hell does a southerner enter Winterfell and moves around so easily? Isn't there any security there? And why doesn't Tyrion have Dany call her troops to comb Winterfell until finding and killing the intruder?

I feel they have killed the Night King too soon, and anything that happens now will feel underwhelming... the world is saved, whose ass sits on the Iron Throne isn't that important... Also, I think they are going to try and stuff too much new plot in the remaining chapters... They will have Dany&Cersei final showdown last just one episode, and create and end a new conflict between Dany's and Jon's supporters in just the last episode... it is too rushed...

Willas was mentioned in the show in the beginning seasons. They forgot about him, they even forgot to kill him

Just remember... we STILL don't know who sent the cutthroat to kill Bran in episode 2.

I'm not surprised...everything outside of Winterfell and King's Landing seems to have been forgotten, or to be worthy of a throwaway line at best. Who holds Storms End? Don't know! Who cares? Oh, but there's a new Prince of Dorne. Who is he and where did he come from? Who cares? And so on...

But you know they don’t matter cause they won’t fight the others therefore nobody would claim the high seats and have no influence on the Iron Throne.

This is literally the logic some fans have

Here's my episode summary:

Cersei: We have a ballista!

Daenerys: A barista, ey? Well so do we! *throws empty starbucks cup at the walls of King's Landing. Effects are negligible*

Maybe that Starbucks barista cup is a reference to Barista Selmy and the lasting influence he has had on Dany as a strategic planner?

We really need to see if we can create a list of terms brought about by the show through the RantRave threads. Larry and Carol (I still don't get that one but I love it!), Barista Selmy, and the North Remembers...Whatever They Heard from the Last Person Standing in Front of Them. Just to name a few.

At his point, Yara should have a battle fleet of Iron made ships to come to their rescue since Kings Landing had the time to arm itself and Euron's ships to the teeth with laser sighted weaponry.

Those two hack producers were given a gift.  They blew it.

No doubt. The Iron Islands have probably produced another thousand ships.

IT would be amazing if we see a rhaegal sudenly raising from the water just in time to burn euron to a crisp.

I would clap

I was hoping on a Rhaegal come back somehow, especially in the originally leaked bit, but with a good look at the scene.......I doubt it.  Rhaegal hit the water HARD, not even counting that horrible neck shot, it reminded me of what they say about people jumping off bridges or planes falling from the sky straight down and splat.  Yes, it's water, but it's like hitting a concrete wall if there's speed and distance.  I wish, but I know better than to wish with these guys.

Ghost deserved better.

Bronn story was awful.

Dany... it's like they're checking the items of the list - OK, NK dead, time for Daenerys go mad like yesterday.

I swear, if the screw up (more than now) Jaime story I'm definitely done.

I thought the Ghost thing may have been the most horrible, and deliberate bit of asshattery by the Ds, that was done in that episode.  We can ride and fight dragons, but we can't touch or hug or even.......really acknowledge, one on one face to face, a direwolf.  It's so truly outrageous, I'm not making the jokes about it I did in the first episode.  I guess I just have to pray they don't find a way to kill him, or further shrink him (physically and thematically), before this is all over.

Are you really trying to apply logic to GOT?

Do you have any doubt that if D&D decide to have a WOW moment and rhaegal is needed he will appear? Who knows how much time dragons can last under water...

So after the Iron Fleet destroys Dany’s ships, does Euron just find Missandei and head back to KL? Why wouldn’t he just go to whatever shore the rest of the characters swam to and capture them as well?

The setting for Missandei’s death was ridiculous. We’ve never seen KL look like that before. It looked like they were hanging out outside of Meereen or Qarth

Do you have any idea how hard it is to convince anyone in a medieval society to fight a dragon? I don't but I'd imagine it's pretty damn hard and even harder when you ask them to be on a ship in the middle of the sea whilst doing it. It is like asking someone to go stand in a fireworks factory whilst a hundred people are attacking it from outside with flamethrowers.

It is so hard to believe that everything that is happening is real. This is just too much, how did these 2 idiots ever get into writing, just how on earth did they manage to convince GRRM, get a budget and run the tv show quite well for 3-4 seasons? Because as soon as the book material ended, it all just became a clusterfuck and yet, IT IS STILL THE MOST POPULAR SHOW WITH HIGHEST BUDGET.

The last episode will end with Bran opening his eyes after his fall from the tower.

HA!  The one thing that could even have the slightest possibility of making any sense of this!  Bran would wake up and exclaim, "Gods be good!  It was all just a bad dream!" :P

Yep, how/why are the immediate surroundings of KL a wasteland?!  Has it become the Desolation of Cercei?

I think George was seduced by the idea of it being an HBO show. If Mickey Mouse and Donald duck had offered him that deal he would've gone along with it. FYI the pilot for game of thrones cost 11 million and D&D messed it up so badly that HBO were going to cancel it

Varys/Tyrion claimed Jon has the better claim because he is a man. No, he has the better claim because he is the son of Rhaegar.

Why was Lyanna Mormont a corpse? Shouldn't she have evaporated or something after NK got killed? Not sure.

Sansa is so worried about Jon going south that she wants him to be king of the whole sodding country. Ah, that Sansa, she so smart. Smartest person Arya's ever met, you know.

Edit - how could I forget Brienne and Sansa informing Jaime that Missandei had been captured. Could just imagine him thinking "who the hell is Missandei?"

We could have one of the final (thank the gods!) episodes be titled "The Mad Queen", just to leave the audience wondering, "is it Dany? Is it Cersei?"

Also, so much for their "women on top" bs from a few yrs back, since all the top tier ladies are a mean gurl, an unhinged nutjob, and a cruel and crazy drunk. Way to go, D&D! :ack:

A few quick thoughts...

Tyrion's "strategic mind" has been useless for at least 3 seasons. He ran Meereen into the ground in season 6, completely underestimated Cersei in season 7, and hasn't done anything useful in season 8. Yet the show's narrative seems to be that Dany is wrong whenever she doesn't listen to him. His advice pales in comparison to Jorah's. I imagine that Jorah's strategy would have been to march on King's Landing as soon as she landed in Westeros. That was Dany's instinct and she should have followed it. There would have been bloodshed, but leaving Cersei to grow more powerful has only caused additional damage.

But then again, they never really had Dany reckon with her roots and her purpose as GRRM did in the books. She  conquers the Dothraki and returns to Meereen more ruthless than she left, but she doesn't have the same "fire and blood" epiphany that closes A Dance with Dragons.

I don't think it's necessarily appropriate to see Dany as the Mad Queen. I would have a problem with that if it were the case, given that it would essentially create a war between two mad queens. What I find more compelling is the inverse scenario of Tywin vs Aerys; this time, Tywin's daughter is the Mad Queen, sitting on a pile of wildfire, and Aerys' daughter is the ruthless conquer coming to sack the city. Dany has always been ruthless and vengeful, and Cersei has given her plenty of ammunition. She's also becoming increasingly isolated and paranoid - but there aren't necessarily signs of madness, given that she really is isolated and her fears about Jon's parentage are already coming true. What would Aegon the Conqueror have done in her position? We don't need to ask that - the Field of Fire is the answer.

That isn't to completely justify her behaviour, of course. I don't believe that ASOIAF will end with one person ruling, because it wouldn't be a satisfying or logical conclusion to the story. Over the course of the series (both books and show), the message is clear: no one person should hold complete power. "The dragon has three heads", not one. Currently, Daenerys Targaryen has too much power and few restraints. I don't believe that's necessarily an indictment of her character; I can't think of anyone in the real world that I would want to hold so much unlimited power.

Have D&D, the infamously untalented, done this narrative any justice? Of course not. They're in this to shock the audience, not tell a complicated story.

I don't even know what to say about the rest of the episode - most of it has already been covered. A hidden fleet? Dany doesn't give Rhaegal literally a week to rest? No one in Winterfell cares about the sacrifices Dany made? Varys was more enthusiastic about Tyrion defending King's Landing against Stannis than he was about Dany defending Winterfell from actual ice zombies.

And then there's the capture of Missandei, the return of teleportation, Bronn sneaking into Winterfell waving a crossbow, Lena getting paid $1m an episode to appear for 5 minutes, the off-hand mention of the Prince of Dorne, Ghost being abandoned...

I also need to question why no one ever seems to care that Cersei blew up the Sept of Baelor. Do Daenerys et. al. not think that she might possibly have some more wildfire up her sleeve? Do none of the residents of King's Landing care? Why are they not already rioting?
