San Junipero is the one that makes me happiest, but the Entire History of You is the one that has stuck with me the longest.

Literally exactly how I feel. I know most people put Be Right Back up there as the episode that got to them the most, but for me it was Entire History of You. That one about broke me.

Finished the first season of Warrior earlier today. I got to admit, I was a bit disappointed. The fights in the last two episodes were not that great and the place characters ended up in felt a bit... half-assed? It feels as if the show ran out of money and just decided to cut down on the number of episodes. A shame because I was enjoying myself all in all. It is far from the must-watch tv that Banshee was, but I believe it is a promising show overall.

EDIT: They just need to ditch most of the white characters. Keep the Irish mobster and Burke, ditch the others

Talk about shattering -  I watched "Euphoria" last night.  Makes me REALLY glad I don't have kids.

I don't want to spoil anything for those who haven't seen it yet, but I'd be interested to know if anyone's experiences are anything at all like the kids on this show.  If so, they have my deepest sympathies.

Ed: It's really hard to give a dispassionate opinion on how "good" the show is since I was practically traumatized by it.

I heard some pretty graphic accounts of the shenanigans going on my first high school in Florida, which was in a more well-to-do area, including lots of drinking, drugs (weed mostly), and of course sex. Nothing really like what Euphoria shows though, which I think is more of a hyper-reality that basically takes the worst scenarios you can imagine or find reported across years and many places and then just compresses them all together into the life of the protagonist and her acquaintances. It makes for very uneasy viewing, but I don't think it's necessarily representative of what the vast majority of teenagers experience.

I think it's going to turn a lot on Zendaya and her character, Rue. If she's mostly just a drugged-out observer, as she was in the premiere, this is going to be a tough slog because she'll be too static. All the performances were good, though, hers included, so it's more of a matter of seeing how it develops.

Makes sense - the part about compressing a lot of nightmarish scenarios into one night.  Thanks for talking me down off the ledge. ;)

'splain to me one part - the part where Jules goes to that motel room with the older dude.  Is this someone she just came across on the Internet and knew what she was in for?  (The family picture on the wall as the blond "jock" guy is going upstairs is a bit subtle.  You could miss it if you weren't paying close attention.)

I think she had been eyeing Grindr/Tinder for awhile. I can't say whether this was her first time or not hooking up with a random stranger, it's not clear, but I don't think she was really aware of how it was going to go.

I believe that photo was also the lock screen on Nate's (the jock) phone before he showed his buddy the private photos that Cassie (Sydney Sweeney's character) had sent him.

I tend to agree with the thought that she had been trolling tinder or whatever for a while and found what she wanted, a father figure who thinks she is beautiful.

Spoiler

Will it come out that she is transgender? I mean they didn't hide it so I assume they will make it a part of the show at some point.

The photo was the fathers lock screen, Jules looks at it while he is in the shower.

Now for the tough part. I am a father of a daughter who is/has grown up in this generation of selfies, chat room videos, revenge porn etc. By some stroke of luck my daughter had no part of sending nudes etc. I saw a text stream of hers to a guy where it was clear she liked him and he was asking her to send some and she said no, I don't do that. I felt such a weight lift off of me that you can never imagine. So that's what I hold on to! Anything else I will imagine she also chose "correctly"!

I finished Bad Blood S2 on netflix. Unless you are a mafia style show obsessed person don't watch S1 or 2. S1 is based off true story and people, S2 I believe is all fiction.

I watched Annihilation this week, movie came out a year or two ago. I thought it was ok, nothing special. I liked a lot of the visuals.

My son is now a week into his summer break from school.  With no homework for him to worry about, we’ve been doing some more fun stuff in the evenings after I finish work.  We went to see Men In Black last Friday, and then X-Men: Dark Phoenix today.  Despite the weak box office and tepid reviews for both, they are perfectly serviceable summer action films to see with your kids.  In fact, these are the kind of movies my wife likes most, outside of Star Wars.

Neither was excellent, and I’m pretty fatigued from all the Marvel movies in the past several years, but still a decent enough family movie.  I’m sure we’ll see the new Spiderman too.

Did anyone try the Swamp Thing series yet?  I watched the first 2 episodes and really wanted to like it.  The series so far has established some interesting storyarcs -- stopping the "green flu", Swamp Thing figuring out what he is, the impending war between the green and the rot.  Yet, I can't bring myself to keep watching because I can't stomach all of the gory violence and body horror that they keep putting on the screen.

Watched Baby Driver last week. It was... I don't know, sort of what I was expecting? Actually in some ways I was expecting more from it. Kevin Spacey totally phones it in. Can't really say any of the performances are 'strong' really. It's basically a film centred around a single concept, which is reasonably entertaining. But the rest of it is pretty weak. It's kind of like a short story that's been made into a feature length film; like butter spread over too much bread...

It was a big disappointment when I came out of seeing in the cinema too. It was very hyped up by a number of reviewers, Kermode especially as a sort of love letter to movies themselves.

But it wasn’t. It was a weak chase movie with cardboard characters. The central concept of using music along with the visuals never worked that well because, IMO, they picked the wrong music. Nothing they used was especially memorable and it barely seemed to tie into the editing of the action either at times. Tarantino would have done it better and has done stuff like this better.

I think this was cancelled after the first episode.
