After having attained the Iron Throne, which pretty much drives everything Dany does. Are we to assume she'd leave to go North to fight the NK? Why not assume she would just wait for him to come to her knowing that she's holed up with her 3 dragons and has already attained her lifelong goal.

Yes, she would go North. Just like Stannis, she actually took her role as ruler to imply protector as well. And she was ready to risk her two remaining dragons against a foe that had already killed one.

It's a rather bitter fact: writers can't write characters much smarter than they are themselves. GRRM wrote characters like Tyrion and Littlefinger well because he's an intelligent man. But as soon as the show left the books behind all the characters in the show with an IQ above 120 or so became regular jackoffs because the writers just couldn't handle it.

I must assume D&D are at least of above-average intelligence. The Game of Thrones audience is maybe more intelligent than your average t.v. show, but it's unlikely they're smarter than people capable of writing and producing a t.v. show. Even ones who mess it up.

Point being, they don't have to be highly intelligent, just a bit ahead of the people watching their shadow play. Or if not that, at least use misdirection and other tricks intelligently. You can cheat and hand Tyrion information other characters lack for no good reason. That makes him seem smart. But they didn't do that.

What they did was make him stupider than he had to be, and when he inevitably failed everyone gave him a pat on the head and told him he's the smartest boy ever. Which was weird.

No.

What is that of asking Cersei to surrender? Of freeing Jaime and telling him to rescue Cersei? Since when are these 2 lions that stupid?

It was for the sake of Tyrion's niece or nephew, obviously.

He isn't innocent at this point, but if we can't differentiate between what he was expecting and what happened, what he was striving for and the actual result (which he had NO control over) then we are being oblivious to the situation.

You think the Hand has no control? How about not screwing up a war for two seasons via your utter stupidity?

I actually disagree. The Night King would be headed towards Kings Landing with millions more turned to his side. She would have had to deal with him at some point. And at that point millions would have lost their lives to the NK.

She could have been informed of the Night King threat after taking King's Landing with plenty of time to spare. As you'll recall, the Danny/Cersei war had whole armies marching back and forth across the continent.

That wasn't her lifelong goal, first of all. Her brother was supposed to be king.

More importantly, her goal has been not simply to sit the throne. (And what, just sit there? Like all day?) It was to rule the Seven Kingdoms. Not to rule over a bunch of dead people.

But the problem is that the show didn't have to leave the books behind.

There was plenty of material in the fourth and fifth books that they could have adapted and expanded. They chose not to.

Tyrion should have realized from the beginning of his service to Daenerys (which he offered) that he could not have his cake (return to Westeros as Hand to a triumphant queen and his claiming Casterly Rock as its lord) and eat it too (be a party to the deaths of Cersei and probably Jaime as well, not to mention many troops and some people in King's Landing).  Tyrion should have known that Cersei would not surrender King's Landing; not even to save a child of hers, not when she thought she had a chance of survival.  I think that Tyrion felt considerable guilt over Myrcella's guilt; since he had sent her to Dorne where Ellaria murdered her.  Remember that meeting between Tyrion and Cersei after the dragonpit parley; he was sincere in his sorrow for Myrcella and Tommen; and he would have wanted to save her baby from Daenerys' wrath.  (and there's also a hint that he and Cersei came to some kind of agreement that wasn't shown)  I think Tyrion also did not want to see the civilians of King's Landing subjected to rape and slaughter; which did happen anyway.

Hopefully Tyrion will be wiser in the book and just avoid becoming Daenerys' Hand in the first place.

Does anyone feel sorry for Tyrion? :dunno:

I did felt sorry for him especially during the talk with Jaime in the tent, hell I felt even little bit sorry for Cersei, and mostly for the common people of Westeros though with all inconsistencies in the show it is hard to take much of it very emotionally.

You apparently ignored the FIRST thing I wrote, but it's ok :dunno:

He has made his own bed, and he has to sleep on it now... He has made too many bad, foolish choices... If he is lucky the Unsullied who he told to leave so he could release Jamie died during the battle and he can buy some time until Dany is killed by somebody else...

Tyrion has been a terrible Hand.

I don't think that, since the loot train raid, his heart's been in it. As Joff's Hand, he relished his role as the savior of King's Landing and House Lannister. After his trial and escape, he seethed with a desire for vengeance on both, but when he saw what that actually meant, the wind was knocked out of his sails, and all he's wanted since was a peaceful conclusion for everyone, which was never in the cards.
