The cast's reaction to the script

Recommended Posts

Apparently, the cast had many differences with the writers of the show. They were not satisfied with the sudden character changes in the past seasons.

What surprised me the most was Pilou's knowledge about the books.

What are your thoughts? Read and comment. Let's discuss.

Hill (Varys):

"That’s been my feeling the last couple seasons, that my character became more peripheral, that they concentrated on others more. That’s fine. It’s the nature of a multi-character show. It was kind of frustrating. As a whole, it’s been overwhelmingly positive and brilliant, but I suppose the last couple seasons weren’t my favourite

If he was such an intelligent man and he had such resources, how come he didn’t know about things? That added to my dismay. It’s now being rectified with getting a great and noble ending. But that was frustrating for a couple seasons"

Pilou (Euron):

"I wish we could’ve seen — not the seducing side, not the ‘I want to f--k the queen’ side — but something different. Maybe something [darker], more mysterious. It would have been fun to see that side because it’s closer to the books"

Gwendolyn (Brienne):

"I know it’s just a character and I’m an actor who’s lucky to do her job. It’s so heartbreaking. But it’s life isn’t it? Life is heartbreaking. I never assumed they would be together. I didn’t think that would happen. And now I can feel a million hearts breaking"

Lena (Cercei):

"I kept saying, ‘She wouldn’t, she wouldn’t, that she would keep fighting,’ but (David and Dan) obviously know what they’re doing and were adamant Cersei would do what she had to do"

It's just a massive failure of screenwriting.

How is Cersei going to say "If you want a whore, buy her; if you want a queen, earn her," turn around and let Euron have sex with her and then later demand that their marriage must wait until after the war over with.

Lol. Exactly.

I both laughed and cried at that line.

Which real human says such a line?

Terrible butchering of Euron too. Such a good actor made to jump like a monkey in a circus

That almost looks like it was written by same guys as "You want a good girl, but you need the bad pussy.", coincidence or not? :)

Haha.

How can one forget that dialogue. The cringiest dialogue in that season.

And the ENTIRE Dorne storyline was absolutely pointless too.

Pilou had some really good interviews following this, but with his book knowledge he also admitted that book Euron would be too difficult to introduce that late in the show.

That's kind of how I feel about it in the books though too.  fAegon and dorne can GTFO so we can simplify this enough to get it on a bookshelf

I feel deeply for him. For all of them, really, but show!Euron was a complete waste of time and screen time, and a total joke.

Emilia Clarkes reaction is also great. Check it out on YouTube :D.  She was asked to make a facial expression, to describe the last episode. She acted as she was puking :D

Yeah, it's a pity. I bash a lot the show and D/D, but the production value is still amazing, music, costumes, CGI, design, and actors still do their best with what they're given. Taken out of context, we had great scenes and acting (which only makes things worse because we can see how good it would've been with a better script). Brienne and Jaime, Jaime and Tyrion, heck even Varys and Tyrion, Jaime and Cersei at the very end (nice change for Headey), Clarke having for once to do something else (desperate Dany, then upset, haughty and defiant dragon-riding Targaryen).

I hope their disappointment comes from the fact that, given the first seasons and the few tidbits we've in this one, they know they could've make something great, and not from fear people will blame them for what we get. Fans and critics can see where the failures lie, and that they tried to make it as good as possible. Heck, that's not even new - Dillane barely had a clue what the fuss was about with Stannis and he still managed to do a really good work, often recognised as such, ruined by a shitty ending.

Yep. You could tell he didn't want to be the 2-bit Jack Sparrow wannabe and wanted actually some of the darker, more interesting elements of Euron.

It's a shame we didn't get book Euron. They should have followed the books and done the Ironborn plot in season 5 .

Emilia Clarke in The New Yorker:

Quote

If they were to reshoot and redo Season 8 entirely, what would you want to happen?

Oh, my goodness. Well, I can only speak to my own character, and the people that I interact with on the show. But I would’ve loved some more scenes with me and Missandei. I would’ve loved some more scenes with me and Cersei.

Oh!

Yeah. I would’ve loved some more scenes between Grey Worm and Missandei. I would’ve loved to see a bit more between Cersei . . . I feel like there was . . . The genocide was there. That was always going to happen. And I just think more dissection and those beautifully written scenes that the boys have between characters—that we are more than happy to contently sit there and watch ten minutes of two people talking, because it’s beautiful. I just wanted to see a bit more of that. But I’m in no position to critique the geniuses that have written eight seasons’ worth of wonderful stuff.

That I can agree with. Cut down the House of Black and White story a bit. Tidy up some of the Meereen plots. Give us much less of the Dorne storyline.

Nooooo!  It's a shame that book Euron is in the books at all.  Fucking terrible character.  GRRM's minor characters have been getting progressively worse as the tale goes on, but evil Captain Jack Sparrow is a terrible caricature of a character!!

Er, you just described book Euron.  Albeit an evil unrealistic two bit Jack Sparrow with an eye patch, blue lips and the most ridiculous crew ever invented.  But they must have some magic because we've had the Iron Born presented to us as this dour culture who are unwilling to change (see reaction to Theon's "westernised" ways) and then as soon as old Euron "I couldn't be further away from Iron Born culture if I tried" Greyjoy rocks up the entire culture changes overnight.  It's enough to make a troop of monkeys jump off a ship or some other ridiculous shit like that.....

I'm just not partial to man with blue lips, an eye patch, a mute crew, who likes to sodomise boys and is ridiculously cruel and unstoppable.

He's clearly not unstoppable. If he was, then the story would be very different.

And you know this....

"It came out of fucking nowhere" (her descent into total evil) sums up Emilia Clake's views.
