Similar to the lightsabre toss, I think the milking joke actually works for the scene it's in. It's similar in concept and context to when Luke meets Yoda in ESB. Rey has a particular lofty image of Luke in her mind, and needs to be disillusioned. And, as others have pointed out, Star Wars has always had an element of grotesquery. And, as others have pointed out, Star Wars has always had an element of grotesquery. It’s in the wrong movie. Again it’s a world away from anything in the OT. Even the silliest things that Yoda did in ESB had a quaint charm. The humour in TLJ is like Seth McFarlane got together some children and wrote what they thought was funny. Yeah it’s much closer in humour style to Jar Jar treading in doo doo and that is not a compliment 10 minutes ago, Liffguard said: For me, it's not so much that Hux can't be both a punching bag and a threat, it's more that I think the director shouldn't be emphasising both in the same scene. He can certainly be a threat in terms of his ability to inflict harm, but he's not framed as a threat, especially at a time when the heroes are really supposed to be in danger. So if Johnson wants to make him into a laughing stock, I think that's a valid artistic choice, but he should be doing so at another time rather than right before a big battle scene. Poe isn’t a punching bag, he’s like a 15 year old nerds idea of a cool guy. The prank call again is from the wrong movie and feels wildly out of place. Finn however is a punching bag , falling over things ,having stuff fall on him. His character becomes a clown.

Right, like the part where the alien frog eats something and burps loudly. Or where R2 gets eaten and shot out. Yep, totally different! 9 minutes ago, Heartofice said: Even the silliest things that Yoda did in ESB had a quaint charm. That frog thing was Lucas warming up for Jar Jar I’m sure. Even that is miles away from To Camera jokes about drinking space cow milk. Which is pure family guy level humour; and total crap

That was in 1983, you philistine. Or 1980, in the case of R2 being eaten. Just now, Heartofice said: That frog thing was Lucas warming up for Jar Jar I’m sure. Possibly, but again, that's ALSO star wars. Just now, Heartofice said: Even that is miles away from To Camera jokes about drinking space cow milk. They talk about how disgusting the smell that Chewie discovers and how Chewie, in the middle of a firefight, won't go into it because it smells that bad. (Also another great innuendo comment - "Into the garbage chute, flyboy!"). Gross-out humor has been a part of Star Wars in one way or another since the beginning. The problem you have is that you are icked out by nipples producing milk.
Heartofice
Wow you weren’t joking, you actually cannot see the difference here. I dunno what to tell you. Try watching more comedy, see how humans do it, you’ll pick it up.
karaddin
Do you think humour only consists of mocking people? Because whether you think it fits the movie or not, slapstick is a type of humour
