[Spoilers] Rant & Rave without Repercussion, Final edition

It's not only a terrible god awful ending, but it single-handedly ruined the series as a whole. Who is going to watch this knowing how it ends and how it makes all seasons irrelevant? It's like this was a quick cash for the writers. Everyone wasted time and money with this, Emilia Clarke almost died to make this series that now has 0 rewatch value.

What a disgrace. I can't believe we wasted 8 years on this garbage. The more I think about it the more absurd this whole thing gets.
These two bitches should be exiled from the industry.

There had to be a justification, however cruel, for Dany wilfully destroying her taxpayers, and the great economic centre her own ancestors had built.  Dany carrying out mass executions of Lannister soldiers, or destroying Cersei in the Red Keep I fully accept as plausible.  Dany just destroying her own property? No.

And the only answer the Show could come up with (it seems) is that she wnt mad, because her father went mad.  The moral being, don't be born to a schizophrenic.

BTW, if this is George ending, I am trully lost for words and I am not sure if I want to read the rest of the books. Lets see it.

BRAN KING - I am sorry, why would the Iron Islands follow Bran as King??? or the Reach? Or Dorne?? or all the other kingdoms? He is no hero, has no charisma, no armies or dragons. Am I supposed to just accept this?

TYRION HAND OF THE KING - Should I just forget he is kinslayer??? wich is a pretty big deal in Westeros? He is the reason House Lannister is falling into pieces after kiling Tywin. The Westerlands probably despise him for making their kingdom weaker. He was the one who brought the Mad king daughter to Westeros and its also a traitor (giving Varys to Daenerys) WTF IS THIS??

JON IS SENT TO THE WALL - The fucking hero who saved th realm from a tyrant who wanted to burn people alive??? he is the only one punished???

THE NORTH GETS INDEPENDENCE, BUT NO ONE ELSE- Yet, no other kingdom wants to be independent too??????what?? Why would Yara Greyjoy bend the knee to Brandon Stark????????

WHY THERE IS STILL A WALL???? - why??????????

I was speechless after the finale. I had no words. This makes no sense. If the books ends like these, it will be a big dissapoitment.

If it was the ending I'm pretty sure it won't be now. ;)

IMHO, they think they can come up with better storylines than GRRM, hence Sansa marrying Ramsay, Dany turning into the madwoman in the attic in three weeks, Porne, the Wight hunt, the characters teleporting across Westeros, the regenerating Unsullied, St. Tyrion etc.

That takes quite some ego, and doesn't bode well for their Star Wars involvement. Perhaps they might be able to do some simple storyline on their own, but nothing complex. Ah, well - good that headcanons exist.

Don't panic just yet. What we have seen may be the bare bones of the ending, but GRRM will provide the flesh the show was missing.

BTW, your Jonsa post was meant for a different thread.

Here’s the Iain Glen interview.

As time goes by, more and more of the Game of Thrones cast are admitting they haven’t read the novels (written by George RR Martin) that the HBO series is based on.

But according to cast member Iain Glen, it’s not necessarily a decision they come to on their own – in fact, actors in the series are encouraged by showrunners David Benioff and DB Weiss to avoid the source material .

“I don’t read the books,” Glen told RadioTimes.com. “I read the first one when they gave me the job, just to get a feel from it and a synopsis breakdown of what was going to happen to the character.

But beyond that, the writers themselves, David and Dan, they didn’t particularly want actors coming to the scripts from the book, always suggesting what the book did and how it was different – I could see the glazed look in their eyes when that happened.”

He concluded: “They were quite happy for us to move forward and treat them as screenplays with no history, so that’s the reason why I only ever read the first novel.”

Thanks for the link, I don't follow this stuff much.

To an extent, I can understand that they don't want the actors to be affected by a different take on their character, but this is a bloody adaptation, the characters should be, well, in-character. Which they're mostly not, surprise, surprise, mostly due to the fact that they don't have a character - see my previous rant on the bitchy "strong wahmen", and all those instances of previously intelligent characters going totally stupid. Also, Sansa not trying to calm down the people in the crypts? Pffft.

I try to imagine Season 8 does not exist. I will wait for the books to fill the gap if they ever come out. The ending is just way too open ended and fan servicey. Why didn’t they just kill Arya off so we would actually have Jon, Sansa and Bran reuniting in misery and they could actually tell Grey Worm, that there would be no punishment for Jon as Dany killed their youngest sister. Definitely better than her going off to the middle of nowhere. But then she is a fan favourite and they need to keep open the possibility of her spin off so she lives. She was literally the only character on ground in that area who survived, plot armour dialler up to 11. I also love how they don’t show what happens to Dany’s body. Probably keeping open their options for a sequel with a revived Dany down he line. The open ended nature of the ending makes me think, they definitely have some sequel on the cards. They aren’t shutting down this money maker.

actually, the ending of the show left us with a huge possibility for a Jon and Sansa union in the future. Jon is now with the wildlings, and its believed to be the Next King beyond the wall; Sansa is the last Stark daughter  left in Winterfell and her only remain brother cant father children (the show made sure to tell us that in the finla episode).

So its shapping up for a repeat of the Bael the Bard song. Funny enough, the first time his song is mentioned in the books its in the chapter where Jon meets Ygrite, his red hair lover. Bael impregnated the Winterfell daughter and their child continued the Stark line.

Isnt this amazing??? thats the beauty of having characters surviving the end of the story. Death is so terribly final, while life is full of possibilities

If you are implying, Jon marrying Sansa, you do realise thats incest?

oh boy. they are cousins. its ok on westeros.

It’s not okay to the Starks. Probably okay to Jamie and Dany. Did you see how Jon refused to have sex/intimate relations with Dany the moment he realised she was his aunt? He didn’t even kiss her.  And that was when he loved her romantically before he knew the truth. He has been treating Sansa like his sister all his life. No chance of a marriage.

to make up for this mess, George better have Tyrion eaten by wolves. Hand of the king, after bringing the Mad king's daughter to Westeros is a fucking joke.

I am still hopefull for WINDS, lets see what happens

Good thing it’s over too as I was beginning to develop a mild case of cenosilicaphobia watching the last seasons. I’m not sure the last season deserves a blue ray. A sloppy disk at the most.

Although his Troy script had several of the samr cringe inducing dialogue we saw on GoT.

Omg, yes :bang:

"Too early in the morning to kill princes" and lets Hector return to Troy, wtf.

Oh and Menelaus dies at the beginning of the war :lmao:

If Troy is an indication for their faithfulness toward GRRM's ending, we can at least hope for the books:

KL will be destroyed - almost everything else will be different. :D

I agree, this was shocking but hey this is typical D&D's BS: when she's on the battlement she tells Arya "I want to be with my people", five minutes later she is with "her" people and she only interacts with Tyrion, neglecting all her Lady duties.

D&D kind of forgot that Sansa led the prayer and songs in Maegor's Holdfast during the Battle of the Blackwater.

Imagine Catelyn or Margaery in this situation: every elderly, every woman, every children would be busy doing something in these crypts…

By the way, if the population of kings landing had a connection to Targaryen's - wouldn't they leave by choice? I mean we essentially have the real ruler returning - if they had any particular loyalty at least some of the population would have left? Or rebelled against Cersei?

Apparently, the common folk don't really care who rules them, as pointed out by Jorah (9:20):

But even so, someone in King's Landing should have opposed Cersei after blowing up their beloved sept.

Thinking back, I have to admit the critics were right all along... There were many things that didn't seem to make much sense in earlier seasons, but I went along with it because I believed there would be some sort of payoff down the line. But usually, the questionable story lines just fizzled out into nothing, and knowing how it ends I don't think I would be as lenient if I were to watch the last few seasons over again.

If they don't want their actors to be affected by the book characters, perhaps they should not try so hard to steer towards the same ending as in the books? If these are different characters, shouldn't the ending be different as well...?

I didn't get the feeling that Jon loved Dany either.

To be honest that was incredibly satisfying. But when ever I watch the scene I do get annoyed she doesn't head to the Keep.

I was also thinking, I wonder if she assumed her advisors would try to force her to not kill Cersei and supporters post surrender which is another reason she scorched it? There are a multitude of reasons for the scene tbh but we didn't get into any of them. It was purposefully done bad writing.

Couldn't she just say, "I'm the Queen, eff off," after the battle? They let her kill Varys, and no one likes Cersei.

“The three coming out of the tunnel would be Jon and Jorah and Tormund. But the amount of logic we’d have to bend to get Jorah up to the Wall and get him to leave Dany’s side right before [the events of the finale]…there’s no way to do that blithely. And Jorah should have the noble death he craves defending the woman he loves.”

Ha, so they ARE concerned about logic in the show. They could have fooled me with what they did the last few seasons.

He should ask Greyworm for a teleportation device.

anyway, as I said, Jon and Sansa positions by the end of season 8 are pretty much a parallel to Bael the Bard song and since there is so much hints for this union in the books, I think George may be giving us some clues. But, in the end, its just a theory.

He did show her he loved her when they had sex on the boat and on the dragon date as well. Even their dragons were smiling at both of them kissing. The moment he learnt his identity he backed off. He wasn’t cold. He just isn’t comfortable with incest. Dany keeps trying to goad him into it but he just can’t do it.

By the way in one of her interviews, Sophie has said that Jon stays at the Nights Watch and in Castle Black so he can’t marry or have a kid anyway.

It's okay in modern-day U.S. some places, too. Or legal, anyway.

But the fact that they grew up in the same house and thought they were half-siblings most of their lives makes it grosser than his relationship with Dany, which blood-wise was more incestuous.

Anyway, it is all a contrivance to force the 'tragic' 'we can neber be together, my luv, trope.

Weren't Ned's parents cousins?
