Was it really to just drive Dany nuts when it came out? Because it seems like it had no other affect on the story.

Yeah, now that I think about it , his parentage was not linked to the Nk.

Benioff and Weiss bet each other in the best ways to destroy Bran's potential:

Benioff said they needed to cut him off during season 5.

Weiss opted to give him useless exposition in a theory that everyone knew anyway (considering how rushed season 8 was is almost funny to think we spent so much time with the ToJ scene)

Both won. We lost.

The prince that was promised stopped both threats - ice and fire.

He didn't really stop both threats, though.

They could have evacuated Winterfell, had Bran left alone in the Godswood, with Arya hiding, and it would have ended up the same, without loss of life.

There was no purpose, the same way Arya's training has no purpose. Her killing the Night King didn't even make sense in that context, is she super fast and super sneaky at the same time, she's literally only ever been that much of a magically jacked assassin off screen whipping past that white walker in that one moment, she didn't use the actual power of the faceless men once this season.

They should have had a post credits sequence of her dying of thirst marooned in the middle of the endless ocean, her entire arc led to her returning to the pack and subsequently fucking off, her assassin shtick enabled her to kill Freys and be good with a knife in one moment, that's it. She forsook vengeance for the Hound but then went to get revenge on Dany but didn't because Jon did...

D&D don't give a fuck and neither should anyone else.

Come on ... Arya's training was the reason she was in a position to kill the NK. Also Melisandre has a line about blue eyes you'll shut down forever earlier in the series.

Jon was the one that brought awareness of the NK's imminent attack and rallied everyone together to fight it.

R+L=J also gave the viewers something else to speculate on.

Yes, quite obvious. It was also just part of her character arc. She sees her father and other people she cared about killed at a young age, her mother and brother are killed, revenge becomes her reason for existence. It also gives us one more person to speculate will kill Cersei, and then in the end Sandor shows her that living for revenge is no way to live. Now she's off to live a life of adventure like she wanted to when she was a child (and is an open ending that could result in a spin off show).

So she's super fast but literally only shows it in that one moment in that one scene? Is that why the faceless men are so good at killing, because they're fast and be sneaky at the same time, not the magical ability to switch faces? And D&D said they've known Arya will kill him for like 3 seasons, that line is absolutely being retroactively applied to this, blue, green and brown eyes are pretty much most eyes. That line was not foreshadowing at all it's only foreshadowing in retrospective.

Was it Bran's plan to drive her crazy? Otherwise, why did he insist it come out immediately before the battle?

When did we see her training to be the Flash/Olympic long-jumper? Why didn't she use these skills to get away from Terminator Waif?
