Do you feel this show had any negative effect on how you view the books?

If Dany dies I still think it's going to child related. A breached birth or perhaps she gives birth but suffers postpartum depression which is misconstrued as madness (in that day and age) and trys to harm her own baby or others in her paranoia and delusional state. Considering how many awful characters there have been in the books and we still don't know what Euron will get up to. Just how tyranical could dany be in the books? (Destroying Kings landing? Surely that will be the work or Jon Conington with his grey scale induced madness who will be put down by the pretender Aegon who loves him as a father.)

I do have a bone to pick with the show big time, and yes, at the moment I feel like they spoiled me the ending of the books without giving proper emotional catharsis. It is almost as if they knew the strong anti-war, anti-imperial conquest/expansion message would not sell that well, so they cheapened and dissolved it via delivery by cheap emotional shock. Plus the clear ringing misogynistic streak, that 'probably' was not intended but got delivered nonetheless. Two, no three, Queens vying for the throne/s , two of them turned sadistic mass-murderer monstrosities..., and one ( Sansa ) close enough to make her repulsive;  and it is clearly was is going to happen in the books, albeit with more character build-up and with extreme finesse. I am not sure I want to read about this. The count of women-turning-monster in the books is already higher than in any other epic fantasy : the unCat, Arya, Mel, Cercei build up, adding Sansa's and Dany's arcs to the count is becoming sort of skewed to the point of breaking.

I agree. They're also the strong possibility that they simply decided not to explore those deeper implications because of a lack of time.

The world in which this story takes place is strongly patriarchal and brutal for women. The arcs for all of these characters are difficult, but maybe it isn't a coincidence. It's almost as if it's leading to a resolution beyond eventual revenge porn.

Not really, they're kinda two different versions of the same story.  I expect the last books - should they ever exist - to appropriately tell it.  You can do a lot more in an 850-page tome than an abbreviated tv season. And there are several different characters and angles I'm curious to see how they reconcile with the main plots.

I'm failing to see why Daenerys the Dragonlord is bad but Big Brother Bran the All-Seeing Three Eyed Raven is good.

Well, we really can't speak for book!Bran because he is just starting to use his powers, there is no material for analysis. But show!Bran basically was transformed into a computer, so it is easier to dismiss "human flaws". I mean, he literally never USED his powers, just watched everything without moving a finger or compelling people. With one exception: when he told the cast that the Night King was coming to get HIM specifically. But that was a threat to all existence, so I think we can let it pass.

What kind of a resolution would offset the message that every powerful woman in the story is virtually a monster ? Lol. Oh, and I forgot to mention the Dorne's Sand Snakes. Dorne's plot is one of my personal favorites, and now I am dreading it will make certain other princess into a monster as well.

I got it that Galadriel's dilemma is at the root of all of the above, but surely making 'every' Queen a monster is a bit of overkill?

Perhaps in the end, whoever winds up being king (or queen) is able to enact reforms that unbind women from their chains in that society--at least some. Yeah, I know, that's weak. But I still don't think that GRRM's central message is that the powerful women are monsters. I don't think the central message can be gleaned until we get the other two books, or as much as we can. Right now we're in the middle of the action.

Arienne looks more like possible royal fodder to me. She'll surely marry fAegon.

This underlines the pointlessness of the entire story. I honestly don't want to have wasted as much time and effort on a silly fantasy series which, in the end, was just about a pointless political plot that's never going to be resolved,

I know right! Even if what we saw was the "broad strokes" of the ending GRRM has planned, I felt like what was really the point of it all? I mean, we can get the same drama just reading the news. And I feel that GRRM is going to give a vague ending to the gods/magic stuff in the books that have intrigued a lot of readers.  I kinda feel like a gambling addict, waiting for a major payoff in the end, when all I've been doing is giving myself a mental illness. :'(

Well I sure as hell dont want to read about two Targaryens acting so foolishly in love they destroy the realm together, and each other. This played out like a second rate Lyanna/Rhaegar fanfic. Reading about Book!Jon joining the Dany cult definitely isnt what I'm here for.

Book!Jon would never be this blind. Ned Stark would smack this Jon upside the head.

Jon in the books would kill her not out of duty but out of morality.

Don't think so - at least I haven't been bothered to give it much thought as I've lost interest in the book series years ago. I read TWOIAF when it came out in 2014, was not impressed in the least, sold the book and haven't felt the need to touch any of the material published since then nor bother with a reread. If TWOW ever sees the light of day, I'll get a hold of it but I'm certainly not chomping at the bit in anticipation. As for book 7, yeah, keep dreaming of a spring that will never come.

I don't want show ending in the books. (Well a lot of it is fine actually, but Bran as king will never be ok imo) so I'm not sure if I will bother reading the last 2 books or not.

If I was a Dany fan I wouldn't even re read the books we already have! Lol. I sympathise with Dany fans, but look on the bright side, D&D did her well for 7 seasons, more than Stannis fans can say! But luckily for me I'm not a Dany fan, so I'm not ruined in that aspect.

Given enough time between now and the release of Wow I might be fully on board with GRRM ending, or I may not even care anymore, I will see how much bearing a bad tv ending has on my love of the books

The show hasn't had a negative impact for me on the books I've already read (which is all of them and the all the stand alone anthologies and companion volumes). But I've lost hope that the books are going to have a satisfactory ending for me.

No, not because of the show (I will always love both).

However, like many, I feel it's pretty certain and a shame that GRRM isn't going to finish them. And if by some miracle he does there is no way he could do so in two books, and if by some double miracle he managed that, then no one is going to be happy how rushed they are - he's got five times as many threads going on as the show and five times the expectation on the back of it. Given the hissy fits people are throwing about the show, then I expect book burning parties come the end. There's just no way I can see it ending well. George is not riding in on (Arya's) white horse to 'save' the story. I honestly don't think he has a story left to write.

Why so?

Because I wouldn't want to be reminded of what she became. I'd be reading my fav POV wondering how does this happen?!

I actually could see book Dany becoming this deluded so it felt fine (rushed but what can you do?) So it wasn't a huge stretch for me, but if she had been my fav character I wouldn't have wanted to believe Dany was capable of any of this evil she did in show, any re readings would either cement good queen Dany in my head and make me angrier with the show, or point out all the clues this will happen and make me angrier with GRRM. Either way I'd end up angry
