Anthony Appleyard Posted June 20, 2019 Share Posted June 20, 2019 In the television episodes: Fan-fiction that I have seen expresses a fear that the Dothraki that Daenerys brought into Westeros, will some time go out of control and start raiding villages and then take over, like they did in central Essos. In the world of the story, how likely is this? Did those Dothraki bring their women in over the sea with them? If not, and thus they cannot have children, is it merely a matter of enduring them until they die of old age, if nothing else is possible? It is in GRRM history of the Grasslands. The Dothraki sea was before the place of the Sarnori kingdoms. There were frequent wars, much like in Westeros. They sought Khal Mengo, the first great khal, to fight their wars. Quote Some of their kings even sought to use the Dothraki in their own wars, offering them gold and slaves and other gifts to fight against their rivals. Khal Mengo took these gifts gladly … then took the conquered lands as well, burning fields and farms and towns to return the grasslands to their wild state (for the Dothraki consider the earth to be their mother and think it sinful to cut her flesh with plows and spades and axes). They will just attack villages, take the women, rape them, force them to marry them and found families. We see several of them cheering during Daenerys' victory speech in the finale. We did not see them departing from Westeros, but since the Unsullied departed, maybe the Dothraki will return to their Great Grass Sea, too. That would be the best solution. Then after the battle Dany generated more and then once she took King's Landing she had the resources to generate more. Realism goes out the window when the show just pulls troops out of thin air. There is no way Dothraki would stay in King's Landing, with no leader they would have left the city to pillage the surrounding countryside for a long time. (2) Is there any idea how many of the Dothraki that were left behind in Essos, would be alive at the end of the series? - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - In the wars against the Dothraki, and in descriptions of wars between Yi Ti and the Jogos Nhai, it seems that GRRM has made no use of a tactic that was effective in the real world when used through the millennia by China against steppe nomads (Mongols, Hsiung-nu / Xiongnu, etc), namely, at a time of year when the steppe grass was dried out during the dry season, to send horseback raiding parties into the steppe to set the standing dry grass on fire over wide areas, thus (until the next wet season bring regrowth from the roots) destroying the steppe grass which is the original food base for the nomads and their livestock and riding horses.
