I saw Joe Cocker three times in the 7 or 8 years before he died. He had been doing the casino circuit and I’d drive north about an hour and a half to see him in a relatively small venue, a few thousand people I guess? He was still absolutely wonderful.

Now **I'm** jealous!

I was born in 1969. My mom says I was supposed to be born on July 20 (the Moon landing), but I came early and was born on June 14. Which, unfortunately, is also Mango Mussolini's birthday.

I console myself by thinking it's also Boy George's birthday. At least he's articulate and funny and is a constant reminder of my teenage years in the 80s!

If we're doing favorite Woodstock clips, here's mind.  Richie Fucking Havens:

The radio interview that got me started on this thread mentioned that he was the first one on on Friday. They didn’t have everything set up yet and the crowd was getting restless. He was supposed to sing for 40 minutes or so and they kept telling him ‘another half hour, another have hour’. After two or three hours he sang everything he had and just started riffing ‘freedom, freedom’ and the song ended up a huge hit for him.

Yep, that's how I've always heard about myself.  Legendary.

My 2 vids were actually from 69's Big Sur festival in Cali. 1969 should be coined the year of festivals, with Big Sur, Altamont, and Woodstock all happening within months of one another. Fact is I'd enjoy one nice documentary that compared and contrasted all three of those events, I've seen the Woodstock and the Gimme Shelter movies but the Big Sur show is less known but also historically significant to music lovers where we see Joni Mitchell introducing the brilliant chorus for the Woodstock song she penned. So "Groovy"!

Eta: ommfg lmao, This RS mag interview of Grace Slick , she's talking about how "business" Mick was such a different animal then "orgy" Mick when she flew out to London to discuss doing Altamont.

1969 was a pretty good year for movies, too. The top ten:

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid

Midnight Cowboy

Easy Rider

Hello Dolly

Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice

The Italian Job

True Grit

Cactus Flower

Goodbye, Columbus

On Her Majesty’s Secret Service

Your list is missing If...., one of the greatest movies of all time and one of my favourites of all time also. Now that was a 60's movie. If... also brought Malcolm McDowell to the attention of Stanley Kubrick for A Clockwork Orange.

Didn’t make it to the top ten, but yes, I loved If as well! I went to see it with same friend I went to see Easy Rider and Woodstock with.

As for Woodstock, here's a classic performance that inexplicably didn't get included in the film. Tragic oversight to leave this out.

Also Cher on Hefners After Dark TV show, note that non cosmetically enhanced nose on Cher from 50 years ago lol, she was still a natural beauty even( especially) without the plastic work, she birthed her Chasity this same year.

students were taking over university offices all around the world. And the anti-Vietnam protests in the US got enormous coverage in Canada as well and they were pretty aggressive, but I agree, riot was too strong a term to use, though I only say protest in the list itself.

Y'know, with the cost of a college education going through the roof, you'd think people would try to take over university offices NOW, rather than relying on politicians' promises that will probably never happen.  I've got some ideas regarding this, but I'd like to keep my pristine record of no warnings or banning.

I don't know that I'd go THAT far.  Just that this generation's energies seem to be spent in talk, rather than action.

Maybe it's better that way.  :dunno:

HOW DARE YOU! WE TAKE ACTION ON THE INTERWEBS!!!
