So when I saw the news about the additional filming locations, I of course had to look up images and imagine what part of Randland they might be.

This is in Croatia. Looks like the Waterwood in Emond's Field to me.

Emonds Field--minus the paved road (Croatia)

This makes me think of Illian (It's in Slovenia)

Other parts of Croatia make me think of Tanchico or Ebou Dar, and Prague, Camelyn, or Tear? What do y'all think?

Yes, that's true, I was generalizing. You're talking about the South Pacific islands? I never can remember what those ethnicities are called; I always have to look it up.

Melanesian, Micronesian, Polynesian

I don't think most of the world is dark skinned. More like half. And some countries are mixed, like Andor and Tear. And of course dark skinned can vary from Mediterranean or Native American, to Indian, to African. The only people I recall being described as African dark are from Seanchan.

IF they are on schedule!

People from Tear can be very dark skinned, and most of the Sea Folk are as well. Elayne says Ishara was as dark as any of the Sea Folk. Rahvin, also very dark skinned, claimed he was a Lord from the Misty Mountains near the Two Rivers, and Mat never batted an eyelid at the that when he saw him. In fact, for an isolated corner of the world, the folks from the Two Rivers tend to comment when someone is particularly fair skinned (like Rand) but don't bat an eye when they come across more dark skinned folk, further emphasizing that Western Andor (where Ishara was from as well) had plenty of very dark skinned people, and there's good evidence that the Two Rivers folk themselves are darker skinned than the average white person.

Yes, Galad has a slender grace. I never got the impression he was physically imposing cuz he is bulky; he is very tall (6'5" which makes him even taller than Rand).

I think it's gonna be hard to find someone who is massive enough to be Perrin. I imagine someone is gonna have to some serious weight training. Lan will be difficult to cast accurately too. How many people do you know who have a face that's all hard planes and angles? LOL

I know Rand's not super buff, but I think he's pretty muscular (chopping wood, sheering sheep--not easy work), and he's VERY broad shouldered. But yeah, I think the WoT people will be a variety like any other.

Galad is not 6'5" tall. I have no idea where you got that number. Rand is 6'6" tall. There's no way they'll find anyone that tall. He's muscular but not bulky. Rand's always described as lean.

Lan IS muscular, though perhaps not as much as Perrin. He's going to be even harder to cast if they go by height. As for planes and angles, I always took that to mean skeletal and not fleshy, and sharp featured. It isn't an impossible look to find, but I dunno who would perfectly fit the bill.

Where did you get that about Galad? I'm pretty sure he's not taller than Rand, who's only topped by a few Aiel.

I know this has been one of the main things about casting actors, and interestingly enough, actor heights are among the features posted on various sites, like imdb, but I'm keeping my expectations in check with this one. Size does come into play for a few characters, like Perrin, whose personality developed in part due to his immense size and strength.

People from Tear CAN be very dark skinned (like Juilin), but not all (like Suian). I did say Andor was mixed. I envision Two Rivers folk to be medium skin toned, because even the sun-darkened Causcasian-like Aiel are dark enough to be commented on. When we are reading from their POVs, it is noted when people are fair skinned, like Cairheinen and Aiel (when they see their skin that has not been exposed to the sun), or particulalry dark, like the Sea Folk, so when they don't comment on people's skin tone, I figure they're pretty similar to their own skin tone.

The WoT wiki gives Galad's height as 6'5". Likewise Rand is 6'5" (1 span, 1 foot and 7 inches). Did you get your info from the WoT Companion book? I know a wiki is not necessarily 100% reliable.  I never said Rand was bulky, just muscular and very broad shouldered.

I haven't seen anyone yet who matches my vision of Lan. Jordan used that description of his face so frequently, it is set very firmly in my mind. I have accepted that whoever is cast for him, will not match my vision. As long as he is physically imposing and has that stony look that would freeze you where you stand, that will be enough for me. That's the problem with adaptations of books people are so enthusiastic about and have read many times over.

WoT wiki.

I always look at height now when I look up someone on IMDB who has been "fan casted", or when I see someone that looks like my vision of a character, but like you, I'm not expecting that to be a major factor in casting most characters. We already have a Moiraine who is as tall as Elayne is supposed to be. The main ones I think they really need to be picky about where size is concerned are Perrin (duh), Lan, and Rand, which means of course the Aiel have to be tall as well (at least relative to other people). That will be a hard bill to fill I think.

Which WoT wiki? The only one I know is this one, and it doesn't give the height. https://wot.fandom.com/wiki/Galadedrid_Damodred

Neither does this http://www.encyclopaedia-wot.org/characters/g/galad.html

Yes, Siuan is fairn and blue eyed. But I rather hope they take a bit of licence and cast an African American actor instead.

The WoT wiki is trash. Along with some decent info, it has complete wish fulfillment, or "theory" based stuff, and none of that is marked as such. Take what you read there with many grains of salt.

As for Lan, look at the New Spring comics. That was author approved.

Gawyn is 6'3" according to the Companion. Galad is about the same IIRC though he doesn't have a height listed in the Companion.

Speaking of them, I wonder how much the Trakands will feature in the first season, they are pretty important characters later on, but they are also in one chapter of Book 1 and don't appear much in Book 2 either except Elayne in the last quarter of the book.

Isn't the second book the one where Galad and Gawyn are training with the Warders and Mat fights and beats them? Seems like there's enough there.

ETA: Nope, that's TDR. I have no recollection at all of what Mat is up to in the 2nd book.

Mat spends the opening of TGR basically bullying Rand because the Shienarans think he's a lord and Moiraine gave him those fancy clothes. After Rand, Loial and Hurin separate, he starts to get sicker due to being separated from the dagger from Shadar Logoth, but not too bad. He accompanies Verin, Perrin and Ingtar's group to Cairhien, reunites with Rand, who then teleports them to Toman Head via the Portal Stone. He goes into Falme with Rand and Perrin and, rather memorably, blows the Horn of Valere.

If they do plan to give Logain a bigger role from the start as rumored, I could see Trakands being introduced via the moment when Logain is presented to Morgase, something only mentioned in the book. Afterwards, maybe Rand interacts with them as per the book, and we may even see their departure to Tar Valon, again with Logain.

Also, I could see Egwene separating from the group in Caemlyn (she doesn't do much post this anyway), and joining the Aes Sedai escorting Logain north; this at Moiraine's insistence. That way she meets Elayne and Gawyn earlier.

Jesus, for a brief moment I was horrified that Tom Felton would be someone's choice for Logain or Galad.

That said, save the height, Henry Cavill would be amazing Galad. His entire Superman look is how I imagine Galad.

Cavill ain't going to be doing WoT any time soon when he's starring in The Witcher.

A decade ago, I'd have said Ian Sommerhalder was more in the direction of RJ's description. Now, I don't know. Harry Lloyd, maybe? Though he's in Brave New World.

Egwene not being there when Rand discovers he can channel would be a pretty major story-arc fail, IMO. One of the core aspects of EotW that stood out to me was that Rand threw a fit when he found out Egwene could channel, whereas Egwene barely hesitated before telling him she didn't care that he could. For me, that was an important moment, and it makes it clear that their later distance wasn't because she was creeped out by his ability to channel.

I'd say about a decade or even less ago, Ben Barnes was most people's Galad.

He's only 7 or so years older than Galad in the books. Yeah, he'd work pretty well I suppose.
