UK politics - The Yellowhammer Made The Robin Weep

Indeed, when trying to deal with the biggest swinging dick in the game it pays to have an equally large swinging dick and not come in with wiener of modest proportions.

For a period of time between WWI and joining the EEC the UK spent some time being a bit player on the world stage while the US and USSR dominated the geopolitical and economic landscape. But not really long enough to properly understand how to operate as a minnow. Now it's going to step out on the world stage basically with the sort of mentality it had when it was the biggest empire the world had ever seen but with no political, economic, moral or military power of any substance. And unlike in the 20th century with just the USA and USSR as the playground heavies, there's he USA, China and the club it just left the EU, and an India trying to climb to the top of the heap as well.

the UK is really going to need to learn how to operate like New Zealand and Australia, and not convince itself I can operate like the US or EU. But New Zealand and Australia have had decades of figuring out how to deal with the swinging dicks of the world and never had any pretensions of being global swinging dicks, though Australia swings its dick around regionally plenty enough. The UK may learn some hard lessons about just how weak it is being all out on it's own, new found sovereignty and everything. And it will be exacerbated a bit if Scotland does bugger off back to the EU.

Good luck. You'll need it.
