WarGalley
I was going to subscribe to HBO this month so I could finally watch the Deadwood movie but this might hold me off. Really want to watch Succession based on what I've heard here..

The only thing I’ve watched on there was S1 of The Mandalorian and I had issues with the sound. Volume was way too low. I was using a Fire HD 8. Netflix and Prime work fine on it. Lord of Rhinos
Disney+ has been working fine for me.
Iskaral Pust
We watch Disney+ on a current model Roku. No problems at all. Agreed though that the sound on the Mandalorian specifically was unusually low.
RumHam
Quibi catches up with the rest of the world, realizes watching TV on your phone is awful Quote With COVID-19 keeping most people indoors, streaming services have unsurprisingly seen a huge uptick in viewers, while Quibi only managed to net 300,000 live downloads on its first day—just seven percent of the downloads accumulated by Disney+ at launch. Ouch. Quote Quibi CEO Meg Whitman said that the company is currently working on implementing a feature that would allow users to cast Quibi content to their TVs But it's kinda hilarious that it didn't launch with this. RumHam
HBO Max will launch May 27th at the same price as HBO Now. They plan to do an ad-supported version next year. I hope they don't get rid of HBOGo anytime soon. It is ridiculous to have three seperate streaming apps though.
RumHam
So today is the last day to get a "pre-order" deal on HBO Max. They have no new content right now though, just all the HBO stuff and Warner's library of TV and movies. I didn't realize a lot of HBO subscribers get it for free though their cable company. If you subscribe to HBO with any of these companies you get it free: Quote AT&T (HBO's parent company) and DirecTV, U-verse, AT&T TV Now, AT&T TV and AT&T wireless users who can add HBO with certain unlimited plans Charter and its Spectrum services YouTube TV or Google Apple Hulu Altice USA and its Optimum and Suddenlink services Verizon and its Fios services Cox Communications The NCTC group of independent cable and broadband companies -- that includes WOW!, Atlantic Broadband, RCN, Grande Communications & Wave, MCTV and others. (Check if your pay-TV provider is an NCTC member.) Comcast is the biggest one missing.

Also, how do you figure out if you're able to subscribe or not? I heard that you couldn't sign up through certain platforms. Roku and Amazon Fire TV don't have an app for it yet because apparently the companies can't come to an agreement. Before you subscribe make sure your cable provider isn't already giving it to you free. I posted a list above. It's not something I'd pay extra for at the moment, but since they're giving it to me with the HBO subscription it's nice to have the extra movies. Nictarion
Looking through the HBO MAX app and I see that there’s a ton of old Criterion titles in the TCM section. Including a bunch that I’ve been meaning to see for years. This looks better than I expected...

They had a few things that interested me -- that series with Sophie Turner, a docu-series about Lebron James's Promise School, another docu-series about USA's youngest mayor, and most recently The Fugitive re-boot with Keifer Sutherland. Did anyone watch any of their shows?

New AT&T CEO John Stankey told analysts on an earnings call a couple of weeks ago that HBO Max amassed 3 million new subscribers, and an additional million activations came through AT&T platforms (including existing HBO subscribers who upgraded to Max for free). That conversion rate is disappointing; the company already had more than 30 million subscribers it could move over to HBO Max from its linear HBO customer base and HBO Now. Stankey on the call specifically noted it was difficult getting people who subscribed to HBO through cable packages to sign up for HBO Max, adding that it’s an area WarnerMedia wants to improve on in the future. Corvinus85
I thought they would wait to see how Wonder Woman does, unless there has already been massive increase in HBO Max subscriber. I don't think they could really tell, as the deal to allow the app on amazon devices happened around the same time they announced wonder woman. Iskaral Pust
I’ve subscribed to Hulu + live TV for the past couple of months in order to have NFL and college football games available, especially while exercising at the weekend. But other than live sports, there doesn’t seem to be anything we want to watch on Hulu. And if we ever do try something, it still has ads even though I paid the premium to remove ads.* *there’s a footnote in fine print that “ad free” does not apply to all content. I’ll definitely drop this very soon. I’m just trying to decide whether this football season is worth another $60 per month to keep watching. Yes, especially since they're increasing the price by $10 this month.

Sounds like you're playing stuff from the Live TV part of Hulu, which is a cable replacement and has ads instead of playing things from the streaming side of the site which is almost entirely ad free (assuming you paid for that tier). I personally think Hulu has the strongest TV show streaming library in the US.

My daughter subscribes so they have access to live sports also. One thing I have noticed is when watching the app on a smart tv there are more ads. When I watch on a computer the ads are there but if you watch a few episodes in a row the ads are minimal.
