8.5 million for a years rental of someone like Coutinho seems an absolute steal.

It does sound like a steal however when you consider they have to pay his wages and also don't get a penny from any future sale then its maybe not so cheap.

Was trying to figure out what the most expensive loans in football have been, but its hard to find that info.

It's a small loan fee because Coutinho's wages are massive - €13m/year after tax according to reports.

Thought it was €12m/p.a. Not that it makes much of a difference. But yeah, the wages are the kicker.

Ok, now that Coutinho is off the books, will they now make that move for Neymar?

The reliable journos for Barca from RAC1 and CatRadio say that the club are still working on bringing in Neymar. Looks to be a difficult deal to pull off though unless PSG accept a loan with obligation to buy or players + cash deal. There were rumours that PSG wanted Dembele and Semedo to be included in the deal but Barca were not open to that. Apparently Real Madrid are also interested.

If Coutinho is gone on loan only then it seems like Barca can only offer a loan for Neymar.  It would be a huge risk to commit to a purchase of Neymar while Coutinho might land back at the Noucamp next summer.

Gareth Bale had a good opening game for RM, despite all their attempts to push him out.

Ojo has started life at Rangers really well.  Considering Ryan Kent was also one of their best players last season, the Scottish PL looks pretty weak.

Harry Wilson scored another long range winning goal on his debut for Bournemouth.  Grujic scored a nice goal against Bayern but then conceded a needless penalty too (they got a draw).

Cantwell, who impressed me for Norwich against Liverpool, got two assists on Saturday.

Although I thought Chris Hughton was very hard done by as Brighton sacked him, the team definitely looks reinvigorated under Potter so far.  Perhaps the board was right to address stagnation.

That was a superb team goal. It's such a delight to see angled and overlapping runs again.

Another thing I like that Solsjaer's brought up that was a Fergie specialty that we'd notably let slip then is a dedication to winning the second ball by making sure our runs in attack our staggered so there's always someone following up.

What basically happened is that Adama Traore is really, really, ridiculously fast.

Highlighted the issue with Shaw in that he came up against a player where his pace can't get him out of trouble his positioning gets him into, but that really isn't gonna happen that often despite his proneness to flab that people have been mocking recently, so I don't think it'll overly damage our season unless PSG drop into the Europa league and he winds up against M'Bappe.

It was a good performance, can't be mad about it. Even while we were struggling to deal with Wolves' improvement we were still getting chances of our own, it wasn't a collapse or anything.

Bleh, not a good start to the season for Chelsea.

Fitness seems to be one of the things Chelsea need to improve on.

At the moment, we look good in the first half of games, but poor in the second. Sky Sports showed a comparison in the build up to the Wolves vs Man United game last night of Chelsea's stats in the first half of the two PL fixtures compared to the second half and the drop off was significant.  In the first half against Man United, we played quite well, then faded in the second. For 120 minutes against Liverpool, we played really well, but maybe the players were buoyed on by the fact there was a trophy to play for. First 20 minutes against Leicester, we played with an intensity rarely seen from a Chelsea side at Stamford Bridge, but after having played 120 minutes midweek, it was likely the players were going to tire and be unable to keep that level up through the entire game.

However, there have been some positives. We press much better from the front than we ever have. I thought it was a brilliant piece of play from Mason Mount for his goal against Leicester. The way he won the ball so quickly from Ndidi was nearly more impressive than his finish for the goal. The way he plays isn't too dissimilar to the way Oscar played for us during Mourinho's second spell at the club.

We have actually had the third most shots after Man City and Spurs, but to have only scored one goal from the 32 shots over two league games is a very poor conversion rate. Another problem is that only five shots have come from centre forwards - four for Abraham and one for Giroud. What Giroud brings, though, is the ability to occupy centre backs and create space for the attacking midfielders and wingers to move into, and he did that very well in the opening stages of the Leicester game. Abraham brings the speed and mobility to get in behind the opposition's defence and also the ability to close down opposition defenders on the ball.

I guess this is one of those games we need to win if we're to challenge for the top six/four, and considering that Villa have lost their first two, everything is in place for a good performance.

That worries me. Not as much as it would three-four years ago, but still, it feels like one of those banana skin games.

Hope we'll keep our defensive solidity, and that Kean gets more playing time. And then we'll see..

Digne is a superb player.

Villa on the other hand clearly displaying the issues with trying to buy a whole new team. They're constantly mislaying passes because they've clearly not got used to each others' movement.

eta: lol as I type that, they score coz of Jota making a superbly timed pass.

Perhaps.

Hard to say, because too many players aren't really turned on so far. Gomes misses touches, Richarlison is just struggling, DCL can't get things right..

Iwobi for Richarlison and Kean for DCL is a possibility, but maybe they are too unfamiliar with the team for both to be playing togheter? Dunno.
