US Politics: The American Messias, Greenland and attacks on Jews voting Democrats. Or as we call it Wednesday.

It is extraordinary that he can keep this level of sustained WTFery up for over three years.

Has anyone asked him why he wants to buy Greenland, let alone how, what, huh, and WT actual F, Mr President?

There are relatively rational reasons around. That they are Trump's reasons beggars belief, but still:

- strategic placement. The US already has a military presence.

- resources. Will probably be more attractive if we continue to melt the ice.

- a presence in the arctic. Both China (I think) and Russia are active.

I am kinda looking forward to Friday.

You wonder why? It used to be Friday's when the real insanity happened. If we go back to that golden age of the Trump presidency from 2 years ago, then we are in for a real treat.

Going back to his American Jesus bit. I mean he kinda is, Jesus supposedly cured the ailing, while Trump gets them into Goverment positions. And given Jesus female companions occupational history, I think we might want to take a closer look at our modern Mary Magdalene's model history. Mary Magdalene, Melania, it even starts with a bloody M. Jesus traveled with prostitutes and outcasts, Trump pays off pornstars and partied with Epstein. It all makes perfect sense.

If I was a biblical lunatic, I would say Trump is checking off a lot of boxes to meet the requirements of False-Prophet from revelations, often commonly called the anti-christ.

I seriously am starting to wonder if he's practicing some form of mind-control on my religious extended family.  He's everything they've claimed to be against for decades, short of being gay and a democrat.  And they love him.

Apparently it was Tom Cotton's idea.

Quote

During a speaking engagement Wednesday in Little Rock, Arkansas, Cotton said that he suggested the idea to Trump months before the President expressed interest, according to a Talk Business & Politics report.

Cotton said he met with the Danish ambassador to propose the “no-brainer” sale of Greenland to the U.S.

“Obviously, the right decision for this country,” Cotton said. “You’re joking, but I can reveal to you that several months ago, I met with the Danish ambassador and I proposed that they sell Greenland to us.”

Cotton argued that Greenland’s mineral reserves and its strategic location means that its “economic potential is untold,” according to the report. Cotton added that the island is “vital to our national security.”

The media is kind of dropping the ball, but perhaps that is because it is August. There should be lots of Republican senators forced to answer if they agree with this, in particular Collins.

What Republicans Really Mean When They Call Jews Disloyal

But in some sense, that’s not quite right either. Conservatives have actually inverted the old libel. Instead of accusing Jews of being overly loyal to a foreign nation, Trump has turned centuries of anti-Semitism on its head by accusing them of not being loyal enough to one—and his followers are happy to echo the charge.

How has this come to pass?

One obvious part of the answer is that Trump and other conservatives are just parroting the sorts of things they hear from Jewish Republicans, who—let’s be blunt—tend to see Israel’s Jewish critics as a bunch of self-hating secularists who’ve bought in to leftist anti-Semitism. Not all of them are quite as forthright about their feelings as Shapiro, who charmingly likes to dismiss his opponents as “Jews In Name Only.” But the sentiment that liberal Jews are bad Jews is real. And Republicans outside the tribe have clearly picked up on it.

But pro-Zionist and anti-Zionist Jews have been lobbing accusations of self-hatred and abetting anti-Semtism at one another quite literally since Zionism was born. It’s an old story. What we’re seeing now is also the result of a recent shift in America’s political alignment.

So now you know what they are actually against.

Why did Trump amplify the idea though? It appears because he sees it as a real estate deal and thus found it attractive. It's pretty stunning. Cotton easily pulled the strings of the U.S. President. Grifters all over the world see this Presidency as a big opportunity.

What are the theories on why Harris has had such a collapse?  Any analysis on where some of the polling that was behind her has gone?

Harris had a bad second debate and was left floundering with no good answers when people started turning around and questioning her about her record. She hasn’t done much of anything since to put herself above the pack, so that’s all that really needs to be said about why her numbers have dropped.

As for where her supporters have gone, I’d suspect some to Biden, some to various other candidates who’ve seen their support rise slightly since the debate, and some probably went to Warren. A lot of Warren people were listing Harris as their second choice, maybe some who had been starting to consider Harris a possible first choice after the first debate went back to the Warren camp after the second.

Where they went is purely supposition, aside from the bit about Warren supporters listing Harris as their second choice. I wonder how many people who have Harris as their first choice had Warren as their second choice.

He stole my memo!

More seriously, there are just as good reasons not to, including that Denmark doesn't own Greenland, and that the era of colonialism is over. So I'd say the idea as such has deteriorated over time - it was probably viable in Jackson's time, and somewhat viable when Truman proposed it.

Times are different now.

You would be correct. Though I suppose it's possible those are jokes, I just don't have that kind of faith in humanity anymore.

It would have fewer casualties than the Iraq invasion, seeing how you can only kill people once and only 60k people actually live in Greenland...

Does that qualify as a joke?  I don't even know anymore.

Ouch.

I love to hear this...

GOP fundraises off Greenland flap: 'Support President Trump and his efforts to help America grow!'

House Republicans’ campaign arm is not only standing behind President Donald Trump’s bid to buy Greenland — it's fundraising off it.

The National Republican Congressional Committee began running a promotion in which donors contributing $25 or more receive a limited-edition T-shirt depicting the semiautonomous Arctic island, part of the Kingdom of Denmark, as part of the U.S.

“Support President Trump and his efforts to help America grow!” reads the promotion touting the limited-edition tee. The red shirt features a map of the continental U.S., along with silhouettes of Alaska, Hawaii and Greenland patterned with the American flag.
