David Selig
There is a lot more than just the white hair and moustaches in his description that indicates that Thom is quite old. Here is how Rand describes him when he sees him first: Quote he would have been tall if not for a stoop to his shoulders, but he moved in a spry fashion that belied his apparent age Quote his face was gnarled like a tree that had seen hard times Later on Mat thinks to himself Quote What noblewoman would be writing to a leathery old man like Thom From Nynaeve's PoV: Quote Thom, in stout brown wool, could have been any of a thousand gnarled, white-haired men who worked wagons Nynaeve also tells Elayne about Thom: Quote Not only is he old enough to be your father twice over I know he had several affairs with much younger women, most of them stunning looking and is extremely athletic, that's exactly my issue, it's implausible. He's a a deeply charming, experienced man, full of anecdotes, with a silver tongue and an interest in the ladies. And he plays an instrument and sings beautifully. There's not a lot of reason why he wouldn't be appealing to certain types of younger women. I honestly am wondering at this notion that he's some sort of incredible physical specimen, BTW. I was looking around and outside of one described backflip/somersault thing mentioned in EotW, I'm not sure I can find anything else. On the other hand, his taking an injury that leaves him with a permanent limp seems more befitting an older man who no longer has a young man's constitution. Do you know how big that stuntman is? Just to get an idea on what they might do with the Trollocs. I certainly didn't picture Valda that way. Yes, yes, I pictured a white guy, but more importantly, I pictured an older dude. This also means that we will be getting the Trakands in season 1. The actor is older, for some reason most of the decent publicity pictures for him are about 10 years out of date. Valda doesn't even show up until Lord of Chaos, although he's mentioned as early was EotW, so yes, the whole story with Valda "escorting" Elayne and co to Tar Valon and then hanging around the city for a while is going to be on-screen. More importantly, I'd now expect Elayne, Galad and Gawyn to be cast for Season 1 (along with Morgase, Gareth and Elaida). The Czech stuntman seems to be getting a lot of very positive press, followed by disbelief he'd be hidden under lots of makeup and prosthetics

That would be quite a change - if Bornhald isn’t there to die at Falme then what’s the reason for Byar and Dain to hate Perrin?

Valda would be at Falme and then run away (and blame Perrin). He'd actually take the place of the Bornhalds *and* Byar. Actually not that much of a change given that the younger Bornhald is..... essentially nothing as with his father and Byar. EDIT: I'm actually like that more now. Gives Perrin a consistent enemy. Save Galad finding out about Morgase till the trial of PeErrin and poof. Nicely wrapped with a bow.
Werthead
Three more actors cast for Season 1: Alanna and her Warders Maksim and Ihvon. Alanna doesn't show up until Book 2, so more evidence that either they're going into Book 2 material or a new subplot at Tar Valon. Alanna's second Warder is called Owein, which I think has been changed as it sounds too much like Owyn, Thom's nephew and an important character in Thom's backstory. I wouldn't say that this means we'll get book 2 stuff in season 1. It's likely that Alanna will be among the Aes Sedai that capture Logain, which makes sense, given that besides the Reds, the Greens get themselves involved a lot in matters of war and men channeling. Her Warders are likely to be background characters, at least until her role increases.
Gertrude
Logain is a good guess. If we're getting into book 2 then it could just be her regular introduction. I was going to say why not both, but without Traveling, that's probably not plausible. With a speculated 8 episodes, I don't think we'd get too much of book 2, but I could see it because - while we get a lot of introduction to characters and places - there is just so much travel in the first book. I hope they condense it a bit and if they do that, then there is room to end up in Fal Dara to do the set up for the next season - meet the Amyrlin, Fain escapes and set the outline for the next steps for our heroes. A decent cliff hanger without leaving too much dangling.
SpaceChampion
Hope we see some Mazrim Taim a bit too, if just to introduce more Aes Sedai hunting him, and some Saldeans and other Borderlanders. Cadsuane maybe?
