Yup, The Outer Worlds is very good. Interesting that the lack of being open-world doesn't hurt it (although some of the areas are pretty big), and makes you realise how much Bethesda RPGs are often just packing repetitive filler into big, meaningless spaces.

The one big criticism of the game I agree with is that it is very easy. Playing it on Hard, the second-highest difficulty level, and it's presented relatively little challenge apart from the very beginning.

Yeah, I'm playing on Hard since I heard Normal was far too easy, and it's really not that much of a challenge; which is a bit of a shame. I am still pretty early on though and its not a cakewalk either.

I do wish there was another difficulty setting that had all the Supernova stuff, except for the companion perma-death. Everything else is fine, but companions are so integral to the game experience that I'd just be reloading every time one of them died if there was perma-death; which gets old fast.

Yeah, Parvati would be dead about four times over for me already, and you don't have enough granular control over the companions to stop them killing themselves out of idiocy (any of these people ever hear of cover?).

Playing a dumb character is quite amusing. Not quite as funny as a stupid character in Fallout or a Malkovian in Bloodlines (both made by the same people as Outer Worlds), but entertaining.

The main problem I have with supernova difficulty is that the game crashes sometimes on my machine(well twice so far). An autosave every 30 mins or so would be nice. It is not as unstable as Fallout 4 survival though.

I like Outer Worlds as well. I signed up for Xbox Pass for 1 dollar this month (4.99 following months) so I could try this game out. I wonder, if I decide to buy this game, will I have to buy it from the Microsoft Store to keep my save, or can I buy it from Epic Game Store still? I might want to stop playing if not...

It autosaves on every area transition and I think that's about it. Although I don't think I've spent more than 30 minutes without such a transition so far, so that's not too bad.

Getting into the habit of hitting quick save every few minutes is fun. My FF7 replay was interrupted because I forgot it never autosaves and I lost an hour's progress.

I don't see any reason why you can't pull out the save file and transfer it into a new install from EGS or Microsoft Store.

I'm very happy to see that reactions to The Outer Worlds have been so positive. I'm trying to decide if I should wait for the Switch port or just pick it up now and support Obsidian.

Currently playing Return of the Obra Dinn (which is great) and also the Link's Awakening remake for the Switch. It's a very nice game to come back to after many, many years, especially with the cute new art style and the ability to equip more than two things at once!

I played some Outer Worlds over the weekend. Strange as it sounds, the game reminds me of Borderlands meets Oblivion. It's actually most similar to Fallout 4 in function except... good. Kinda stripped down role-playing experience, but not in a way that makes you hate it like Fallout 4. Because what the game lacks in side content and open worlds I think it makes up for in the role-playing department. The character origin creator alone is head and shoulders above anything you'll have seen in a BioWare game this decade.

I definitely got the Borderlands vibes.  Game feels like a mashup of New Vegas' writing, Borderlands' combat, and Mass Effect's ship hub and companions.

But seeing as I enjoy all of those, it's right in my wheelhouse.

Outer Worlds also feels heavily inspired by Firefly. The design of the ship, the first companion at least seems like the mechanic from Firefly to me. They also have that strange Firefly speech pattern.

Yeah, I totally get that vibe from the first companion.

Also, the music, at least the music on the first planet (haven't gotten further than that yet), feels ripped straight out of Firefly.  Lots of acoustic stuff that's definitely inspired by westerns.

I'm enjoying Outer Worlds so far although it suffers from consoleportitis and getting it to run properly on an ultrawide screen is a pain in the ass.

I was considering buying it, but this gives me pause as I'm running UW 1440p. Did you get it working? Any good guides on how to get it sorted?

I love it.

I hate tho that the angry white incel movement has out this game in it's sites. Epic exclusive, claims that this is a sjw game (wut? I'll give it a socialist tag, but sjw?), and conspiracy theories that the women were made ugly on purpose (as far as animated faces go, they're fine. I think this is the most ridiculous conspiracy).

I read the same about Lara Croft not too long ago which is silly because Lara Croft is obviously intended to be an attractive woman.  The current games don't objectify her enough, though, so the fellas got mad.  There is also some controversy about a character in a Final Fantasy remake that had her boobs made a bit smaller.

I can't play Outer Worlds because it's first person and I hate first person.  Too bad for me.

That's fucking ridiculous--Lara Croft? As far as these things go, she's a representation of a beautiful woman. These guys are idiots. I hate the gaming community.

Sorry you can't play Outer Worlds, tho.
