I thought that our penalty earlier was a bad call but this is one of the stupidest things I've ever seen.

It's unreal. Just hate this shit so much, especially given last week, Saka got taken down clearly in the box, same level of contact as Zaha, and it was totally cool. Every week, something new yet always the same result.

Anyway, obviously can't read too much into that because Norwich's defense is absolutely gash, but it's amazing how much confidence improved with Martial, Rashford and James all playing together.

McTominay was the best player again though despite the mistake for the goal.

And then this didn't get a red card.

Butch 'Clothesline' James would have been proud of that one.

McTominay has been good since last season (a whole lot better than Matic). That's why it made no sense for us to be chasing Longstaff as our only midfield target (rather than a creative midfielder instead) since McTominay is currently better than him.

McTominay is about the level of Darren Fletcher. Not a top class player but does a lot of the dirty work and does it well. But the point I was making was that McTominay is currently better than Longstaff so us chasing the latter as our only midfield target was fucking stupid.

ETA. just watched the extended highlights of Arsenal/Palace. Arsenal were robbed by an absolutely shocking display by the ref and the VAR. Just goes to show that shit refs will still be shit even with the best technology available - as the saying goes: Intel inside, idiot outside.

McTominay is very, very average though. He's not good enough for a top 4 midfield.

McTominay shouldn't be our best player but he's perfectly good enough for a top 4 midfield. Like Consigliere says he bears more than a bit of resemblance to Darren Fletcher (though he's developing a bit of a passing threat in recent games that Fletcher didn't, though we'll see if that's just a form thing or he can consistently do it) and Fletcher wasn't out of place for us at all.

And yeah, he did get a yellow, which is presumably why VAR didn't get involved.

Which is nonsense, VAR can get involved, if a yellow was way tooo soft.

Happen for us this season at Dresden.

ONe of their thugs (Nikolau) against our youngster Conteh with a horror challenge (sliding in from behind with no chance whatsoever to get to the ball).

Ref gave a yellow for that. VAR interfered. Ref went to the review area, returned and Nikolau was off with a red.

So a yellow does not shield from VAR reviews.

Liverpool outplayed Spurs by some distance, partly because of Spurs negativity/passivity with an early lead to protect, but the score was a lot closer than it should have been.  Their GK made a lot of saves (13 shots on target), but several of those were because the shot was too close to him.  Some sharper finishing would have made the game more comfortable, but the weight of chances eventually told.  There was a period around 30-40 minutes in where we rolled over them in wave after wave, but none of the chances went in.

Fabinho, TAA and Mane were great today, while Robertson, Salah and Firmino were in the next tier of contributors.  Lovren, Gini and Henderson (despite scoring) were poor.  Lovren was perhaps unlucky in his role in their first goal (but should have closed down the shot better), but was shocking in giving up a good chance later to Son.

Despite the worst possible start, Liverpool managed the game well and looked the more likely winner throughout.  We’ve now played Arsenal, Leicester, Chelsea, Spurs and United in the PL already, and took 13 points from a possible 15.  By contrast, of those teams City have only played Spurs so far and took 1 point from a possible 3.

Up next is a LC game against Arsenal, so hopefully a full rotation ahead.  Arsenal’s reserve/youth team showed much more cohesion than ours in the last round, but it’s still better to rotate to rest starters and allow back-ups some minutes.  But a pity that Shaqiri is still injured and will miss this chance to contribute and practice his role in the formation.  Gomez, Elliott, Hoever, Ox, Keita, Origi, Jones and Brewster could all use this chance to shine.

Arsenal are pants.

Never mind blaming VAR for various things (justified though it may be), when we go 2-0 up after 10 minutes any half-decent Top Six side should be able to comfortably close that out. Credit to Palace for fighting but this Arsenal side are incapable of holding onto any lead of any kind.

When did 'perfect' hat trick become a thing, it sounds absolutely dreadful.

If by "perfect" hat trick you mean right foot goal, left foot goal and a header, that's been around for a while. I remember first hearing about it when Sergio Conceicao scored one but I can't remember if it was for Portugal or for his club at the time. I checked, it seems to have been for Portugal against Germany in Euro 2000.

It's been a thing pretty much as long as I can remember watching and playing football.
