How could Edmure prepare riverlands

Use the same strategy that he effectively used in the battle of the Fords.  That's instead of trying to defend each millimeter, place defenses at river crossings where they cannot out maneuver you. Let the enemy stretch their supply lines and attack them in their weaker point. Use the castles and their ravens as communications hotspots, keeping the main armies there so the castles cannot be easily taken and find the way to encircle the enemy armies and annihilate them. Etc.

Acording to Ned, Edmure mistakes was that he spread his forces all over the riverlands instead of massing them on a single spot.

Edmure also went on the offensive and send Piper and Vance to attack Jaime at the Golden Tooth and once they lost, Jaimes path was clear... Edmure once again offered battle without his full force and lost and was captured at Riverrun.

If Edmure had just picked one defensive position and massed his forces there to beat the Lannisters in one decisive battle or even a indecisive bloodbath he could had stopped everything in one go.

Alternatively... riverlands are river lands. I do not think we have much info on exact geography, but seeing how Freys could afford to get rich by charhing for one river crossing, there cannot be too many fords or bridges. So, he could have destroyed the bridges, using light cavalryto harass Lannister forces when they attempted to cross, and keep main force concentrated - as long as harrassment continued, Lannister forces would have had to either offer battle or withdraw, lest they be destroyed by lack of supplies.

The Riverlands, as the World Book states, are kinda screwed in general because of their placement in Westeros. They don’t have any natural defenses other than the River, but even then that’s dubious and can change- not to mention can be forded easily at times. Riverrun is the only castle that has utilized the river enough to become pseudo impenetrable.

Really what I think Edmure should have done was not fed into Tywins wants. He should have kept his army together and ceded land little by little and focused on evacuating rather than battling at the borders. He also should have coordinated with the Northern Lords and demanded that the Frey’s send levies at once. That way he could have let Riverrun go under siege with a strong army and wait for reinforcements.

Build river boats. And use them to transport your supplies and armies through its rivers.
And yes also use the same tactic he used at the battle of the fords.

Setup defensive position on each crossing  with a reserve force to reinforce.

This plan could’ve pushed the lions back, but than again it’s Tywin and I can see him outsmarting Edmure.

The biggest problem with a attack from the Westerlands is until you arrive to the blue fork there is no way to really stop a army. Edmure's best chance was a mass battle in the open, then again Tywin could have had is two army's encircle the Riverlands army. And abandonning the lands west of the blue fork is just not possible, that would be the richer half of the Riverlands. So really with out really good leadership or outnumbering the Westerlands army with perhaps ally's. The Riverlands is just not a place were you want to have a war without preparation and ally's. When you look at the history of the world, they always get smashed and before somebody else comes and wins the day for them. So in summary, Edmure really dint have the capacity and time to actually mount a defense without immediate help from ally's.

ps: sorry for the spelling not a native speaker.

That is tough when your lands and peasants are under attack.  Retreating and defending the castle is fine for the lord's family but sucks for the smallfolk.  A conscientious lord of the land would protect the smallfolk and their farms.  In the end, the Lannisters are too strong and too organized for the Tullys.
