US Politics: A Mickey Mouse Operation

Well at least he didn't immediate call for summary executions, though I bet he was thinking about how great leaders like Mr Un could do exactly that, and no one would complain.

It's also be pretty illegal, under international to take any of the oil.  From what I understand the oils fields and associated infrastructure more or less would need tens of millions in investment to even make the oil available on a large scale basis.

Hope the fucking media can have their fun with this nonsense coming from the WH for a day or so and then move on instead of giving this display of juvenile buffoonery more coverage.

At my in-laws house, the only place I ever see an MSM news channels and CNN was having people on criticising the whole stealing the oil thing.

There's something refreshingly honest in a president who comes out and says, "Yeah, it's about the oil. Whaddya gonna do?"

Katie Hill stepping down.

Pardon my ignorance, but is there some rule against having a relationship with a staffer?  While I don't think it's unscandalous, per se, given that she was leaving an abusive marriage and had pics posted in an obviously unwanted fashion I'd have thought her position would be largely sympathetic and didn't realize the affair would be a career-ender.

Big time, and the struggle is even harder on the campaign trail, given that you spend 12+ hours every day with your fellow staffers and interns. There have been a few times I had to blue balls myself until the end of November. It’s never been an issue while working for an EO though, and intra-office dating is pretty common. You just have to be equals (i.e. you can’t sleep with your subordinates).

Damn shame she had to step down though. She was a talented campaigner and very good in committee hearings.  I wonder if she would have if she was a dude.

He also gave away essential intelligence operation details that makes it easy to trace the action back to the geographical source, etc. which again is treason, putting US (and other allies') lives at risk.

As widely reported in variety of sources, bedbug had nothing to do with the painstaking accumulation of information by intelligence, which he regularly condemns and sneers at a deep state; the operation also jumped the gun, putting even more people and operations at risk.

Not to mention how utterly gross and disgusting he is, trying to grab all credit, even for what DID NOT TAKE PLACE, when he had nothing to do with it -- except refusing to inform Dem Congress as to the operation.  He's a diseased LYING troll -- imagine how ISIS etc. are grabbing on to this for their own purposes -- and then he says he's going to make that horror tape public?

Impeach him now and LOCK HIM UP!

He has not in fact said that.  And under international law, pillage is a war crime.

I don't know what press conference you listened to, but that was the takeway I got from him talking about the oil. 'Tis the spoils of war and America's right as the winner, just like in the great Roman times. No more ridiculous pretext of spreading the flower of democracy to a greatful world. Honesty in all of its naked evil.

You took down Al Qaeda and ISIS came along. You've possibly taken down ISIS, what's next? Islamofascist hatred of anything not extreme and intolerant Islam hasn't gone away.

Did WaPo really call Baghdadi an "austere religious scholar" in a headline?  Rightwing thinks so and is loving it.

yes, despite some nuance there though.

don't worry about what they love, which also includes funny outfits made of white sheets, ownership of human persons, and gas chambers for members of disfavored religious groups.

anyone know if the original description is accurate--or did he truly lack the requisite austerity or scholarly pursuit of religious knowledge?

Fuck Nate Silver, fuck Joe Scarborough, fuck Chris Coons, fuck Trump.

Glad Trump was booed mercilessly. Fuck anyone calling for civility with a fascist, which Trump is.

Fuck Silver for saying he shouldn’t be booed in a day an ISIS leader was killed when he is letting people that shared the intelligence that resulted in the successful raid be slaughtered by a Turkish forces and their Pro Turkey / ISIS militias they also back and fund.

People should stop sharing 538 info. Nates a fucking ignorant out of touch jackass and a shit person.

Fuck Joe & Coons. They want a civil dictatorship. Let a person in power do what ever they want with no accountability and just respect them because of their position. Stop deep throating boots you disgusting chuds.

Quote

Al-Baghdadi was born Ibrahim Awad al-Samarrai in 1971 in Tobchi, a poor area near the town of Samarra, north of the Iraqi capital Baghdad, whose name he took.

His family included preachers from the ultra-conservative Salafi school of Sunni Islam, which sees many other branches of the faith as heretical and other religions as anathema.

He joined an armed movement in Iraq in 2003, the year of the US-led invasion of Iraq, and was captured by the Americans. They released him about a year later, thinking he was a civilian agitator rather than a military threat.

As were so many, he was deeply radicalized in the prison camp where he was placed.

http://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/syrian-oil-trump-says-us-should-be-able-take-some

As far as bedbug claiming the Syrian oil for the US, it was widely reported in many places, including recordings of him saying it.  There have been discussions over the weekend on talk radio as a consequence -- can you believe it? discussions! as to whether or not Exxon etc. can take possession of the oil legally or not!  It was generally agreed that this wasn't legal, that the oil in Syria belongs to Syria and the people in Syria.  Whether or not US troops are there or not.

I know I'm late to the party, but I could watch the video of Trump's face falling when he realized he was being booed and chanted at forever.

We have the Doug Ford video at the Raptors victory parade getting booed by 1 million plus people. Warms my heart whenever I think of it.

I don't understand why it's even an issue. Male politicians have affairs every minute of every day and it's just another day at the office for them.

Yet another form of misogyny from holier than thou old guys. She should NOT resign over it. Men don't; in fact their wives stand by them and bear the brunt of the humiliation.

Duncan Hunter embezzled campaign money to spend on affairs, tried to blame his wife for the runaway spending, is under indictment, and still got re-elected.

Republicans, for the party that clutches the Bible so hard, are enormously hypocritical on this. It's not that different from Elliot Spitzer resigning when he was revealed to be a client of a high priced madam, but an arch McJesusite like David Vitter kept his Senate seat in Louisiana despite being a diaper-wearing John.

I guess "Christians" will forgive any impropriety from their leaders as long as the oppression of women and minorities continues.

I can't agree on Katie Hill. She acknowledged that it was inappropriate to have an affair with a subordinate, and I think that's the key phrase. I don't think anyone is upset about the affair part, it's the subordinate part.

Should she step down? Maybe, maybe not, but I think it's objectively worse than what Franken was railroaded for. Ultimately I've always been in favor of congressional censure on ethics issues (if it doesn't explicitly break a law) and let the voters figure it out. I hated that congress was talking about censuring Roy Moore before he was even (theoretically) voted in. The voters knew about his actions and if they voted him in, they would have been saying who gives a shit? That's the piece of shit they wanted to represent their voice.

I think the bigger takeaway is that she just really wanted to get this out of her life, and I can't blame her for that. If she wanted to survive, she could have.

Is she the first MoC to be investigated over this since the rules were changed? Seems odd that a rule change meant to largely protect younger women claimed a young woman as a victim.

Considering her statements in her resignation letter and the video she released today; as well as the Daily Mail publishing more revenge porn just on Thursday, I think a large part of why she resigned is because she hopes it will stop this disgusting - and in many states illegal - effort by her estranged husband and the right wing media.  From the video:

Quote

“I made this decision so that my supporters, my family, my staff and our community will no longer be subjected to the pain inflicted by my abusive husband and the brutality of hateful political operatives,”

So, in that respect, it's even more disgusting than just the classic double standard between male and female (and Republican and Democratic) office holders.  Based on Pelosi's statement, sounds like she was also getting pressure from leadership to resign.  Like I said, I think she could come back later.  Her district is pretty damn purple, and if it flips back to GOP next year, I think it's plausible she could run again and win in 2022.

Yeah it was pretty vomit-inducing trying to watch 5 minutes of Morning Joe this morning and him getting all self-righteous about "what 'Merica should be."  Reminded me of when he got his start in media with Scarborough Country 16 years ago which was such an over-the-top self-parody of toxic patriotism it helped inspire The Colbert Report just as as much as O'Reilly.  What a douche.

As for Silver?  Meh.  The tweet was stupid and pathetically self-righteous as well, but at least it had a tone that didn't pose as America's conscience for three hours on national television this morning like Scarborough.  Don't see any reason to tar-and-feather someone over one stupid tweet.

Coons, yeah, I don't know why he's commenting at all.  That was just dumb for a politician to do.

It's like women aren't allowed to be human and have sex and relationships with the people of their choosing.

I'll say it again: she should NOT resign. Personally, I think MeToo has gone way too far and this is the result. Democrats are so anxious to take the high road when they should be worried about WINNING. At most, she should have finished her term and not run again. Let the voters sort it out.

What happened to Al Franken was a travesty. He should never have resigned either.

Her husband committed a crime. So did everyone who disseminated those photos. And I hope they go to jail for a long, long time.

Now, on that note, let's see some Epstein photos. Fair is fair, after all.

This is the part that I hate. What is being done to Hill via the photos, etc is disgusting and needs to be fought. This makes it look like leadership is only crunching the numbers and looking at optics. While I know this is how the game is played, it's disgusting and cowardly nonetheless. She should be supported whatever her decision is, not be pressured behind doors. Real talk about how this is going to play, sure, but pressure - no.
