The Witcher: Evil is Evil

Very brief teaser for the 2nd season:

An on-line Witchercon has been announced for July 9th, with people from the show and from CDPR discussing the making of their respective projects. CDPR did make it plain that no new Witcher game was going to be announced, however. In all likelihood the release of the first real trailer will probably coincide with the event.

Did anyone think there would be? They're gonna be all hands on deck patching and releasing DLC for Cyberpunk 2077 for the foreseeable future.

Given the way the Internet works, if CDPR didn't say they weren't going to announce a game, people would be prepared to pillory them for not in fact announcing a game.

Destiny awaits the Lion Cub of Cintra in Season 2. It shows Ciri front and centre and it doesn't look good for her. In the few seconds of footage, it focusses completely on Ciri (Freya Allen) and she can be heard shouting "No! Geralt!" before she's warned of "danger" right at the end.

The Witcher season 2 first-look footage drops hints about Ciri's storyline

15 locations, 89 cast members, and 1,200 crew members later, The Witcher has officially wrapped production on Season 2! Here’s a look behind-the-scenes at some of the excitement among the cast and crew - led by showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich.

It's amazing the amount of crew it takes to produce these shows.

It's been an open secret they've been working on "a new game in the Witcher world that won't be called The Witcher 4 because Geralt won't be the main character" for years now, since they finished The Witcher 3. That team was very small and just doing stuff in the background when it was all hands on deck for Cyberpunk 2077 (and probably they had to pitch in to get the game across the release line).

I believe the producers said a while back that at the moment they are gearing up to transfer to full production on the new game next year, so the not-Witcher 4 game is likely still 4-5 years off at a minimum, and they've been adamant for some reason that they're not going to even announce this game until it's much closer to being done.

The trailer seems to indicate less, if any 'monster of the week' action, more interpersonal action among conflicting groups and individuals, as well as, of course, the inner conflicts of Cirri.  Don't know about Yenifer, whose state, inner and outer, at the end of season one,  I've forgotten.

If they're following the novels, that's unsurprising. I don't think Geralt actually goes on a monster hunt of any kind at all in the last three novels, any only maybe one in the two before that. Most of the monster-hunting in the books is restrained to the first two books (the short story collections).

The trailer's depiction of the two leads has some super Castlevania, Trevor-and-Sypha vibes. I know it went into development before they decided to can Castlevania at season 4, but can't help but think that the development was massaged to try and take up some popular aspects from Castlevania once they knew it was going to end.
