Honestly, in the future if the OAS questions the validity of an election that may be good reason to think the first result was the right one.

Guess people are getting motivated to end the impasse. Though I imagine the result will be yet another deadlock.

Corona virus safe polling stations? That's very efficient.

It does seem incredible that Netanyahu, pretty much on the verge of going to prison if he loses, still isn't actually outright losing these elections. It's a little reassuring that the UK and the US aren't the only two countries whose political systems seem like a complete mess at the moment.

While it might be less embarrassing for us if we're not alone in our political incompetence I'd probably prefer it if the rest of the world had more of a clue.

I used to eat Eskimos when I was a kid. Not literal Eskimos, but marshmallowy effigies of Eskimo children. What a bizarre and disturbing product it was, and sill is, up until about today. Why would anyone produce a lolly/candy in the image people from an ethnic group so that kids could bite into them in what amounts to simulated cannibalism? We had / have some really weird ideas of normality.

Fortunately we are getting rid of all Eskimo branding in our popular confectionery. But I am amazed it's taken this long, I'm less amazed (but still disappointed) that there are people who oppose the elimination of this kind of cultural insensitivity from our food branding even today.

I mean, I got my first warning point in over five years of posting here and this man is clearly admitting that he's a cannibal?!?!?!?

Something seems off here. Is this what I must do to survive?

:P

Behind the Bastards had an episode on the guy, IIRC. It was fairly interesting stuff (especially how Brennan was basically trapped in the Philippines due to his disability and various other issues)

Well, the first results are up for the plebiscite in Russia and it seems God Emperor Putin has successfully toppled the constitution. Having the people vote for retirement money reform and extending Putin's rule till 2036 in one package seems to have worked wonders.

I must admit I was more scared when I looked at an article and squinted at the comments section. Russian trolls and support bots are out in full force today.

So, Montenegro legalized same-sex legal partnerships

https://www.dw.com/en/montenegro-parliament-legalizes-same-sex-civil-partnerships/a-54020034

I would honestly love to congratulate Montenegrin LGBTQIA+ population, but the sad reality is that this was one of those "make us look good in front of EU and NATO" laws. There has not been a proper social dialogue about this, the progress of LGBTQIA+ rights is questionable at least.

I really hope this will change something. But when the man who breaks basic civil rights on daily basis promotes this, I am afraid that it will be just one of those EU laws that will, at least for the time being, be there for the sake of EU accession and not people of Montenegro.

Israel ordering proselytizing evangelics to take a hike.

Why? It is an infringement of free speech and entrenchment of Israel as a religiously intolerant theocratic state. I don't see what's good about it except to those with a vehement prejudice against Christians. I guess the one silver lining might be US evangelicals being less vocal in their defence of the right and obligation of Israel to continue to persecute the Palestinian people. But it appears the Christian right (and left to a lesser degree) is well practiced in compartmentalising so that they can be both anti-Semetic and strong supporters of the Jewish State of Israel (against the much bigger Islamic threat) at the same time.

They are problematic to me because the only reason they support what they do is in effort to see there "end times" cult beliefs become reality. These proselytizing Christians are very dangerous and they believe a God is whispering in their ear making them irrational and unnacountable because they believe they are pursuing their Gods edicts. This is the same type of behavior and(messianic)  belief system that brought us the Iraq war because W. claimed Gawd told him to bomb Bagdad.

Yes I have a vehement prejudice against this group, they represent an extreme threat to peace. And am glad Israel isn't having there "endtimes" poison on the airwaves.

Doing a lot of emailing this afternoon about The Political-Social-Viral Situation(s), in the impersonal, intellectual, theorizing, heavy citations sort of way, with two of my academic amigas, about the Virus and France, Macron, Revolution,Venezuela, Cuba and of course this nation's irredeemable but determined failure to even attempt to deal with the Catastrophe. It helps, believe it or not, with the weight of hopelessness, that there is no end in sight for the US. The Safety in Distance protocol takes more than one form.

Not sure of the most appropriate place for this but Ghislaine Maxwell, former girlfriend of Jeffrey Epstein, was arrested on Thursday

Quote

Taken by surprise at 8.30am last Thursday, and accompanied by officers from at least six US law enforcement agencies, the 58-year-old was taken to the medium-security facility and later arraigned via audio-only video conference, accused of luring underage girls, one as young as 14, for her former boyfriend Jeffrey Epstein to sexually abuse.

A spokesman for the US Attorney’s Office in Manhattan said Maxwell is expected to be transferred to New York for a court appearance this week, where she will be charged on four counts relating to allegedly helping transport minors for sexual activity and two for perjury.
