Craster’s Father?

Wondering who Craster’s father is/was. Craster is the bastard of a man of the Night’s Watch and a wildling woman of Whitetree. His father abandoned him, and his mother was chased iff when she tried to bring him to Castle Black.

Quote

“And Dywen told Grenn he’s got black blood in his veins. His mother was a wildling who lay with a ranger,”

Samwell to Jon

Quote

“Craster’s blood is black, and he bears a heavy curse”

Ygritte to Jon

The quotes are referring to the black blood of NW members, however they remind of the ‘black line’ of House Hoare, and there was a Lord Commander Hoare, except he was around during the Conquest, as he is known for staying at the wall with his men while King Harren was roasted by Aegon the Conquerer. However Craster could still be descended from the Hoares.

Whoever Craster’s father is, they would be around 70 or older I think. My guesses are Lord Commander Qorgyle or Ser Wynton Stout.

I wonder if Jeor Mormont knew?

Yes

Thus all the Others are secret Targaryens

No ... but they do want Targaryen babies. Males preferred. The seed is strong ... means the male DNA sperm is more dominant than female DNA eggs ... when it comes to the magic of the Targaryen blood lineage.

Craster's line and the Stark's are the same.  The NK's boys were accepted by the Others.  Craster's boys were sought after by the Others.  They share the same bloodline.  Craster is indeed a Stark.

We cannot say that for sure, especially since we heard multiple stories that people sacrifice to the Others out of desperation.

It is absolutely unclear whether Craster's bloods is especial or not. The only thing we know about his origins is that Craster's father was a brother of the NW.

Most likely was just a random ranger but if people want to find him a special origin, Aemon Targaryen and Bloodraven are at least known to have served during the right timeframe, whereas we haven't heard of any Stark yet.

Maybe "The She-Wolves of Winterfell" will reveal a possible link, maybe some nasty Stark sent to the Wall after Dunk and Egg intervene in the succession, but this is at the moment just wild speculation.

ETA: If GRRM really wanted us to speculate, he would have added some particular physical characteristics to Craster or his daugthers-wives. Gilly would look like a grown-up Arya for example.
