US Politics: I Say a Little Prayer for You!

Probably wasn't the best idea to start courting support from outside the party when you're still at the point when you're supposed to be convincing your own side to support you. I know a lot of LGBT+ people, specifically trans people, who are worried that this is a sign that Bernie and his bros will be willing to throw them under the bus.

It certainly doesn't inspire confidence. Admittedly this is the view of a foreign trans person, rather than one directly impacted, but I'd say it's a little more complicated than thinking he'll throw us under the bus. It's another sign that his focus on class leads to him overlooking other issues - I do think he genuinely cares, and is on the right side, but (imo obviously) he overestimates class and doesn't care enough about other axis of oppression.

It absolutely feeds anxiety that segments of his supporters would throw us under the bus though, I have a lot more faith that he as an individual supports minorities (even as his policies fall short) than I have faith in his supporters.

I know my slice of Twitter has a lot of selection bias going on, but opinions of Pete have turned extremely negative in the days since the caucas - particularly among LGBTQ groups I follow. He might be offsetting that by picking up more of Biden's support but that's the only way he's going to have further successes.

More: Biden and Sanders are really really old, Warren is not.  If Buttigieg says turn the page one more time I'm taking a hit of acid.

Yeah I've thought this for months - Biden is actively declining in mental faculties, Bernie isn't declining but is "old", but although Warren is of similar age she's still as sharp as a younger person and speaks like one. I'm not sure if Bernie's thinking has aged, but it's as much about how they both speak/sound. He sounds like a grandpa, she doesn't sound like a grandma.

Well he's probabaly polling #2 there because he's been dumping money there like Bloomberg gobbling up prison labor

That certainly helps, but that's not the only place he's been spending money. It's what they were saying in the video clip I posted up page.

"White women college graduates" - think suburban women.

I've not seen much consideration for what happens with the black vote if Biden completely tanks. People are swinging to Buttigieg and Klobuchar, both of whom struggle here.

This is making me wonder if Warren's and Sander's fight against big money is now possibly damaging - at least in this election - because desperation to win is rising and will rise further to the degree Trump escalates.

Lol, the "heart of the resistance" again Trump which isn't sure if they can vote for a socialist over a misogynist, racist, fascist. The resistance is broken.

"I mean hating someone just because I their sex gender, or race is bad, but I'm not going to vote for someone who believes that we should collectively provide the basic things a human needs to exist without dying prematurely from want of access to resources, during their time on this earth"

"I do want guaranteed healthcare for everyone, but no way in hell am I voting for a fucking socialist"

Bernie himself must be viewed separately from his socialism like all candidates must also be evaluated in themselves. Regardless of whether you agree or not, his Senate record is unimpressive to say the least, he's authoritarian-curious though not to Trump's degree, he can't explain how he'll get anything done to most people's satisfaction, and quite a few get at least some racist and misogynist vibes from him. And there's this which makes him look like the Trump of the left. Add the Republican brainwash machine to voters who don't pay a lot of attention, it can become a wash.

So. Old. I know it's ageist but seriously. I'm totally out on Buttigieg at this point.

And that speech by Steyer is probably why he's polling #2 in South Carolina.

Agree with that. Said the right things, if a bit awkward.

I...uh...I think I kinda like Steyer.

Is that bad?

No, not really. Steyer is ok, He has some upside, and if I'm voting for a Billionaire it's him over Bloomberg 100% of the time. That said, his policies are not as good as Sanders or Warren.

Exactly.

If I have to pick a billionaire, I would not mouth-vomit my way through the process for Steyer like with a certain other billionaire.

He's pointed in the right direction, he seems passionate about his ideals, and he doesn't seem like a lizard wearing a human-suit. His major downside is his lack of governmental experience but Buttigieg lacks that as well.

If Warren or Sanders implode and drop out (unlikely with Sanders) I think I would have fewer issues voting for Steyer than any of the others at this point.

Man, it is time to put guys like Chris Matthews out to pasture. Watching the MSNBC post debate coverage because Sam Seder is going to be on at some point, and Matthews is rambling about how socialism is bad because Castro would have been executing people in Central Park. Just plain unhinged.

My personal favorite tweet I saw during the debate
