Let's hatewatch some stuff, and roll in the mud as we rip it apart!

True Blood. It was okay at the beginning but whichever season introduced those bloody fairies is where it all went to shit. Sookie was annoying from start to finish though. At least we still had Pam, Jessica, Eric and Edgington. The rest of the characters were crap.

That’s the season I gave up. I still can’t believe Alan Ball, who did Six Feet Under, made that crap.

Lost comes to mind here. I stopped enjoying it by season 3, but there was no way out by that point, you were locked in.

Ive been able to stop watching almost everything I hate but this.

However I have been forced to watch Gossip girl in the past and do enjoy ripping it to shreds

We have to mention the Strain which was just awful, total garbage. They even had the main characters kid nuke Manhattan.

Yet I watched that shit repeatedly, I'm so ashamed.

I managed to hate watch about half a season of Vikings. Hate reading the threads and watching trailers was still amusing though.

Also the Michael Hirst bot was hilarious.

On that topic, is it finished yet or still going?

Eta:think I tagged the wrong person but can't delete, sorry!

Yeah it seems you got one letter too many.

There's going to be another half-season of Vikings, so another 10 episodes. And then a spin-off apparently.

I've hate watched way too many things, primarily the latter half of GOT, Vikings post season 3 and pretty much all of The Strain.

Anyway the season one villain is a Colombian drug lord whose making women smuggle bags of heroine into Florida inside their tits. Oh this isn't really a comedy btw. Like it does have intentional humor, but a lot of this is being played super serious. So anyway he's making chicks put in two DD bags inside each breast, so four bags all together, and then takes them from the doctors, and that's like not great for everyone. But then he starts making them harvest organs, and they're like oh fuck, so they have to take him down.

Wow. You had me here, and thank you.

I can't say I've really hate watched any shows, but there have been a few train wrecks I simply couldn't avert my gaze from. The last few seasons of Vikings comes to mind. Some reality tv shows fall into that category: The Real World, Jersey Shore, Botched.

I didn't make it thru the whole season, but I seem to remember some strange scenario where the beast/villain was making the kid his protege or pet or some shit. Gawd don't make me relive it!

So I've been hate watching American Horror Story lately. I never watched it before, but the newest season being an 80s slasher seemed fun as I have a soft spot for that stuff. I was shocked at the bullshit on the screen, but the original synth score was so good I was able to keep going. The frustrating thing was a few interesting things were being setup in some episodes but, I guess, for the sake of "TWISTS IN THE PLOT!!" those threads never paid off. And...

Spoiler

by the end, how many fucking killers were there? Jesus this show is confused.

I am now hate-obsessed with why this series is so popular. I tried Season 1 and found it boring (and sometimes offensive, school shooting episode). I skipped Season 2 and jumped to 3 because witchcraft is cool. It started pretty strong but anything interesting was lost by the end. The best character

Spoiler

Misty Day-Nicks dying, then coming back, only to die again. She was maybe the most likeable character, though the lady who became Supremo Leader was okay, I suppose.

had a truly terrible arc by the end. And once they started dipping into racial commentary it got so cringey. But it's nice to see my childhood crush Jessica Lange back on screen. She is amazing in all her scenes, so she makes it more watchable. Now I want to watch King Kong, 1977 (not hatewatch, that's the best one!)

Yeah, the show is pretty bad. Season two is probably my favorite one though. Lang is great in it. There's a sequel to the witch season if you wanted to continue that story. I don't think I even finished the last season come to think of it. Now I see they're making something called American Horror Stories which is just confusing.

My other half made me watch the last episode of White Lines. Guess that counts as hate watching.

The amount of people I know who at the time, said ‘oh you need to watch this American Horror Story, it’s amazing!’

Those people are the reason we have so many terrible horror movies every year. AHS is why we can’t have nice things.

I love to hatewatch stuff. While I've always loved Martin's books, I hated the show, and I hatewatched it for five or so seasons. I just find a certain joy in ripping things to pieces. So I thought, given the quarantine, now would be a good time to just revel in the grime and let our negative sides run free (in a safe space)!

What do you all love to hatewatch? If it's popular, what makes you hate it?

I suppose it goes without saying, spoilers are involved, but because this is potentially an exhaustive list of things we've watched, let's use spoiler tags. For me, the first in depth hatewatch I ever did was with the Walking Dead.

  Hide contents

I loved zombies. Ever since I saw Night of the Living Dead when I was a teenager, it captured my imagination. (I even wrote a zombie novel back around 2001--I ought to revisit that). When the zombie renaissance hit in the early 2000s, I was in heaven. Zombies were everywhere! When the Walking Dead came out, I was so stoked. I started watching, and I don't know how long it took, but it wasn't long. Maybe when the Sheriff rode his brand new horse into a city and promptly got his horse killed. The Walking Dead was, to me, everything wrong with the genre. Characters acting out of their established characterization patterns so terrible "shocking" things could happen.

Aside from the horse here are some more issues (haven't seen it in years, I'm sure my list is much longer): Old man with fisherman hat always being dumb--like when he was supposed to stand guard on top of an RV on a highway full of abandoned cars. All around them were open fields, yet somehow, he misses the biggest pack of roving zombies slowly sneaking up on them, and of course, SHOCKING STUFF happens. Or when they're living on the farm, and they come across a group of people who try to kill them, and they capture one of the villains who has been horribly wounded. The "bad" guy of the group argues they have to kill the guy. The "good guys" argue they must heal him and let him go. So, you know, this guy who previously tried to kill them will return to his bigger group of buddies and lead them right to the farm. This is the dumbest argument I've ever seen. Kill the dude. Jeez.

I also remember in the first season the group was decimated when they were celebrating and apparently had no guards around the camp, and the zombies strolled right in and started murdering everyone.

I have so much more, but I think I'll go back and hatewatch the series again and take notes. I'd love to hear from all of you.

I usually don't hatewatch, bur was borderline hatewatching TWD for a long time, until it got too boring and annoying. For a long time, it had the annoying habit of occasionally featuring a decent episode that made me care about characters - just as I was about to drop the show - and then reverting to total garbage. It got worse and got worse with how contrived and nonsensical the scenarios were, with people acting incredibly stupid so they get themselves killed, or the show insulting the viewers' intelligence.

For the former, there were always scenes where

Spoiler

two characters would have a quiet and nice moment talking, and suddenly a lone zombie would come out of the trees and bite one of them. I'm pretty sure that happened a bunch of times. How the heck does a zombie sneak up on you?! An actual living human could - but zombies are smelly, noisy, slow and mindless!

For characters acting stupid just so bad things would happen, there are too many examples. A couple from season 6 that come to mind:

Spoiler

Daryl meets these three people running away from Negan, a married couple and the woman's sister. There's been a fire and a part of the forest burned down. Those three look for a couple of friends of theirs who had a tent there and find their burned dead bodies on the ground. Then one of the women kneels down to lay flowers next to their corpses. I was already facepalmimg - why is she such an idiot, alongside the other 3, especially Daryl, who's an experienced zombie killer and should really know that zombies are really dead only when you pierce or blow up their brains?! And of course, one of the dead bodies bites her in the neck.

Another really dumb death of a likable supporting character who was a medical student or a trained nurse, I don't remember , but due to the lack of doctors, she stepped up and had to become the community's doctor. It went well, but then, when most of the group is out scouting, she gets this stupid idea in her head that she's useless and weak if she can't kill zombies, and insists that two of the experienced zombie killers take her with them on a mission just to prove something to herself. And they agree. What's wrong with all three of them? Being the community's only medical practitioner is far more important than being one of your many zombie killers! Why would you risk her! She manages to kill a zombie and not get bitten, but then she's  killed by a bullet out of nowhere, mid-sentence, by one of the baddies who have it in for her friends. Nice job, now you've lost your only doctor because you were stupid.

And ahen a couple of episodes later this is the reason why the entire group starts going to another town/community to find their doctor, because they have a pregnant woman among them who's about to give birth. Another Idiot Ball plot that ends up with them being captured by the baddies they've been in conflict with, so terrible things and more torture porn would happen to them throughout the next season.

Negan himself was so unbelievable to me.

Spoiler

How the heck did he get power over so many people? Why was anyone following him, let alone worshipping him?  He was an obvious psycho whowas also annoying as hell and would never shut up, he  was even mistreating his own people,  punishimg some of his men with mutilation, forcing women into sexual slavery where they had to "marry" him - even some that were married to his men and had to do it to save their husbands - and he was unpredictable, if he decided one of his men was betraying him, he killed him immediately. So even his goons couldn't have felt safe. How did none of these people kill him long time ago? It's not like he was even particularly strong by himself, or a former special ops or navy SEAL or anything. He was a former gym teacher or something like that.

Lots of good (bad) suggestions all around. In addition to The Walking Dead, some great candidates for hatewatch: seasons 5-8 of GoT, True Blood after season 3, all of The Strain, a lot of Arrowverse but especially seasons 3 and 4 of Arrow and season 3 of The Flash (though the latter was weirdly enjoyable in the "So bad it's good" way). I have only seen a few seasons of American Horror Story, but AHS: Coven was really bad and AHS: Freak Show was absolutely awful. It starts OK and then turns into most ridiculous garbage you've ever seen.

I remember years ago when my late mom retired, she used to hatewatch telenovelas, especially Mexican ones. I didn't even know the word hatewatch then, but she would be watching them in the living room and kept telling me how absurd the storylines were and making fun of them. There was one with the main actress playing an evil and a good twin, and you could tell them apart by the shade of their lipstick (the evil one had darker, of course). She also said the dialogue was so repetitive she had picked up several Spanish words because they probably used around 200 words all in all ("bruja" - witch was one pf tbose she picked up) and noted how racist the shows were, the main characters were all the whitest people you could probably find in Mexico while an occasional POC in a minor role would be a servant or a village witch or something. My mom was such a classic hatewatcher, what a pity she never ran her own blog...
