Which is why making sand castles is so much fun with your little kids, with everyone, of whatever age peeing etc. in the sand.

No. You dont go on the beach. You walk into the sea up to your waist, get an enigmatic look on your face and gently push your crotch forward, aaaand release. Its the north east england way.

Oh god the lengths they are going to to get rid of Cummings. Terrified of the bloke.

Its got nothing to do with whether anyone is terrified of him.

He breached the rules when he and his partner were SI and symptomatic. He didn't drive from london to Durham without at least stopping for petrol and/or using a services toilet if he was travelling with his kid (who is either 3 or 4). He also put his parents at risk as if he is 48 they are likely in the at risk 70+ group. All others of similar standing who breached had to fall on their sword, why shouldn't he?

The lengths HoI will go to defend the Tory government. Almost think he's Laura Kuenssberg.

Yes, treating him the same way as Neil Ferguson (asymptomatic, drove across town to spend an hour with his lover) or Catherine Calderwell (asymptomatic, drove 45 miles to an empty house) - cannot be a with hunt against Dom Cummings (symptomatic, drove 450 miles to visit "clinically vulnerable" parents).

Holding the left and the right to the same standards is absolutely typical of anti-right witch hunts... somehow

From what I’ve read, he wasn’t symptomatic, and he didn’t visit his parents. There’s definitely a tendency to look for a gotcha moment before thinking about whether he did anything that bad, assuming the statement is truthful. His whole family unit moved location and didn’t interact with anyone. Neil Ferguson went to visit someone with the specific intent of interacting with someone else, which is a little different.

The PM's chief aide Dominic Cummings is facing calls to resign after it emerged he travelled from London to his parents' home in Durham with coronavirus symptoms during lockdown.

Mr Cummings and his wife, who was also unwell, stayed at his parents' home while self-isolating.

Weekend of 28 and 29 March

Over this weekend, Mr Cummings is said to have developed coronavirus symptoms.

30 March

Downing Street confirms Mr Cummings is self-isolating after developing symptoms of the virus.

31 March

According to a joint investigation by The Guardian and the Daily Mirror, Mr Cummings travelled to his family's farm in Durham - and it was on this date that Mr Cummings's family were spoken to by the police.

It's pretty uncontroversial that this is what happened.

There's a separate guest house on his parents property apparently which is the excuse they're trying to use to wave it away. It's a pretty clear breach of lockdown rules though.

It's not a seperate house if his child was in contact with people who had symptoms, then moved in with the people without.

And as I said previously, on that journey they would have had to use toilets at some point during the journey with a 3/4 year old.

Probably just took a dump in someone's front garden.  After all it's what responsible socially distancing beach tourists do.  And Cummings is nothing but responsible and highly credible senior government advisor.

There does seem to be extreme confusion amongst some people on the point that, although children do not suffer the worst excesses of the viruses, they do still get it (some have died from it) and they can still transmit and carry it between adults. That's why reopening the schools is such a problem, because parents can transfer the virus to their kids who can transfer it to teachers and other staff members (and to other kids who are also fine, but then transmit it to their parents), not because the kids themselves are necessarily in mass danger (though some are).

Cummings broke the rules and did so in a far worse way than other people who have had to resign have done. He has to go, end of story.

It's not even that big a deal. As an "advisor" it'd be relatively easy to sneak him back into another role six months down the line and it'll probably be ignored. As it stands, the government bending over backwards to give him a pass undermines their own messaging.

I'm loving the 'disappointed dad' tone he's bringing to their conversations at the moment, it's fucking perfect for undoing that overgrown manchild.

It's also clever because Boris is clearly still suffering the after-effects of the coronavirus and if Starmer went in harder he'd be accused of bullying or taking advantage of the situation, so taking a measured and interrogative tone but not a harsh one is a reasonable strategem.

It doesn't hurt that it also works, with the government forced into a humiliating climbdown on the NHS foreign workers less than 24 hours after Boris declaimed that the situation would not be changing.

The story from the government now appears to be that Cummings did not have symptoms at the time he travelled. As a defence, that has two main problems: first, it appears to contradict the publicly known facts, and second, it's still against the advice. Besides, if he had no symptoms, he should have been able to care for the kids himself. If he had symptoms, he probably shouldn't have been driving. In any case, thousands of other people in the same situation had to manage without help.

Meanwhile, Cummings is declaring that he doesn't care how this looks to the public, and Gove and Raab are out there arguing that a thing they voted to criminalise is not a crime.

He has to go.

Shapps has now apparently told the press that the regulations are basically more just guidelines to follow if you can and feel like it.

So the people issues fines by the police can just ignore them?

It is pretty odd how many Tories are vocally defending him, it’s a strange hold he has on that party.

Cummings knows where a lot of bodies are buried, so I suspect they desperately do not want to offend him.

They also attribute their electoral successes in several votes in succession to him, which is probably somewhat overblown (we should remember how Campbell and Mandelson were attributed magical skills to win elections right up to the point where they couldn't anymore), but they fear that with a much more competent Labour leadership in opposition and a clear cockwomble as Prime Minister, they need him more than ever.

That is the logical conclusion.

"Upper middle class dad in not wanting to interact with own child shocker"?
