Sounds like a good day for a sick day/personal day if that is possible.

I'm cautiously waiting till I'm closer to the moment, a lot of times these events have last minute changes etc.

One thing certain, I don't appreciate being put in the position of having my pay dependent on being in a totally unnecessary crowd. Also on principle I decide when and how to use my vacation days and it's a line in the sand for me to let the company inconveniently make me use days outside my planned breaks.

I was already going on vacation Monday, for me to move that ahead to Thursday to avoid this bs is letting them dictate my break. It's not in my DNA to ever let that happen as I plan my summers around such things, anyways we'll see.

I will be seeing my parents for the first time since the pandemic has started, during my upcoming workbreak I've decided. One point of irritation being that our workplace is having a visiting dignitary and is going to have the majority of the workforce gathered for a speech and the media.

Back in March I squirreled away a lone unopened N95 mask that I thought I just may need such protection one day. I will be wearing that protective device. I just am skeptical there will be proper social distancing in such a large gathering. Under normal instances I use only various fabric masks, but I am able to keep distances from crowds. This event on Thursday is going to involve too large a crowd to take such a risk and on the heels of it, I will be seeing family members. The N95 will remain glued to my face for the duration of this very inconvenient event.

Is it Trump?

Yep, and I resent being used as campaign fodder. However I forego unplanned wage losses just as strongly so I will probably attend, get paid and reserve my vacation day for when I intend on using them, it's a pretty big principle for me to use those days according to my wishes and not let company events dictate when I use them.

I'm glad I saved the n95 mask in any event.

You should be getting hazard pay, not only for the Covid risk, but for being forced to listen to Trump give a rambling rant of a speech.    You threw me initially when you referred to the visitor as a dignitary.

Amazon chair arrived today and is extremely uncomfortable.  Not even sure if it was an upgrade from the kitchen chair that was making me miserable.  Fuck.

Good news is that for the most part you can return this stuff or get a refund super, super easy through Amazon.

But I'm sorry it sucks.

Some chairs that seem uncomfortable at first you just need to make slight adjustments in how you sit and in the height or other settings to make them comfortable.  Some chairs are irredeemable.

Send it back and get a different one immediately.

Partner's new chair -- via amazon -- is excellent.

As for me the meal jockey -- the elderly friend who is culturally incapable of taking care of food alone, and cannot live alone -- his entire life consisted, and productively consisted because it is about music of being with people for long periods every day in a musical situation.  Well, his sister kicked him out of her home in New Jersey because she can't stand to have him there any longer.  Everyone who knows him understands, and the people who know him love him because they're part of his musical world in which development he's been so instrumental.

But.  He's entirely, culturally, a man's man.  He just has no idea about how live a domestic life by himself, much less with another person.  And he's profoundly depressed.  For her own sake she is sending him back to his apartment in the city and he's going crazy. The first thing he told the friend who he called when his sister said he had to go was that he was going to need me cooking for him again.  The amount of time this takes, because he doesn't eat the healthy food we eat, and getting the food to him, and all the rest, is truly going to screw me up again. I realized how much calmer and easier life got when I no longer was responsible for him eating.

I am still cooking for a couple of other people too, but I don't have to do it every day, as a lot things smoothed out through May.  And here, we've gotten into a rhythm that's a lot more relaxed too.  Moreover Partner has taken over whole parts of meal making -- and is generally helping out with everything about it all the time -- including doing clean-up.  It's because being here all the time and seeing me doing it, 1) Partner began learning how to do things; 2) noticed what was necessary; 3) saw how much work was involved.

Partner is THE BEST!

Thanks all for the feedback.  Is it really that easy to return just cause I don't like how it feels and not because it's broken or whatnot?

Yep! They try and make it easy. You can't abuse it too much, but a lot of time they won't even have you send it back. Just call 'em and they're usually quite happy to say 'here ya go' and give you amazon credit.

This is America.

And in America if something sucks, you’re supposed to be able to get your money back!

Today I learned that the whole baby torturing, blood drinking Hollywood elite conspiracy is all about the adrenochrome myth. And this is now part of the COVID-19 conspiracy circuit.

I guess Hunter S. Thompson would probably be laughing and crying at the same time.

I do believe that belonged in the Gallows Humor thread.

Is it possible that you’ll need to take a major shit during this time?  Take your phone to the toilet and bask in isolation until it’s over.  Can anyone reasonably stop you from doing that?

Is it reasonable to lift my mask to take a drink when i'm on the train, there is nobody within 6 rows of me, and I've just cycled to the station and am thirsty as fuck.

You're a cop, you don't have to wear a mask on the train anyway.

That's not true, I told someone off yesterday (who I recognised from my nick) for not wearing one on the bus.

Went to the clinic yesterday to get my pelvic pain check out. Three hours and I barely know more than I did before I went there to expose myself to a ton of people not practicing covid precautions. I got a urology appointment for next week by which time - I presume and hope - I will be fully healed. So there’s little chance of finding out what’s wrong with me currently. I have a lot of theories, but nobody at all was interested in my theories or my medical history or my circumstances in which my current symptoms have arisen. And the hypochondriac that I am is now actively looking for all the symptoms they asked if I had when they misdiagnosed me. As if my mental health hasn’t been fragile enough these past 4 months. Overall, our healthcare system is just as entirely useless as it was pre- and during coronavirus. But at least it’s free, which is comforting enough. Because I’m trying to see the silver lining in everything these days.
As soon as I get my liquidity back I’ll try to see some private professionals to see if they can point out what real or imagined issues I have and what real or imagined issues I don’t have. Or maybe I’ll just let it all go because willingly looking for problems is unhealthy and private healthcare is just as useless as social security one and it even costs a lot. Oh well.
And to not venture too far off from the topic, I would most certainly have staff responsible for escorting patients out who take off their masks in waiting areas. Yes we are all uncomfortable and yes, it’s hot. Deal with it, we all do.

I thought police were one of the exempt categories? Or is that only when you're on duty?

If off duty, rules apply. Weirdly with the number of people we come into contact with, and the fact there are still fully operational stations full of staff, our sickness is fine.

Luckily I'm seeing the arrangements being made for an outdoor event, that will be a little safer at least, I'm thinking it will be easier to keep some distance to the extent possible.
