BigFatCoward
I did a bit of wiki research on past elections in the US, just for fun. Jesus, you used to really go all in for one party or the other, regular blow outs of 400+ for the winning party. What changed to make it a more 'balanced' (as if US politics could ever be described as balanced) electorate?

Yeah, although I'm skeptical about mass evictions. If everyone who fell behind gets evicted, who exactly do the landlords think is going move in? It's just going to be someone else that was evicted. I'm sure there will be some local exceptions but what court is going to want to get bogged down in constant eviction proceedings? Also, if the virus numbers continue to rise through July, with an election looking, and especially if protests continue, Congress will have incentives to make a substantial new aid package. Take it to the streets and make them do something.

Maithanet
So the past two days have had a LOT of polling, and it is all a mix of good and great news for Biden. The state level polls have shown a similar bounce to what we've seen nationally for Biden, particularly in the midwest. It does look like the Electoral College is still skewed towards Trump by ~2.5 points based on what we're seeing now. It was 2.9 points in 2016. Biden does seem to be a bit stronger in the 3 midwest states and Florida, a bit weaker in NC and AZ. Although at this point, he's leading in OH and GA, as well as all 6 big swing states. The polling picture for Democrats could not be much better:
Martell Spy
Dozens of Secret Service agents will be quarantined after Trump's Tulsa rally https://www.cnn.com/2020/06/24/politics/secret-service-trump-rally-quarantine-coronavirus/index.html Quote The new testing mandate will be in place until July 4. The law enforcement official said the number of quarantined agents is on the "low" side of dozens. A Secret Service official said the quarantining will not impact the agency's operations. The news was first reported by The Washington Post. Asked about the decision to test all agents on presidential trips for coronavirus, the Secret Service official said protecting agency personnel is critical during the Covid-19 pandemic. "We want to make sure that we have a healthy workforce and that we are protecting our people," the official said. "This is good common sense." A US Secret Service source who worked advance for Saturday's rally and is now quarantining told CNN that agents from Dallas and Houston worked the event as well, and they had been warned before the trip from those field offices that they would need to quarantine when they got home. The steps come after two Secret Service agents who attended the rally tested positive for coronavirus, a person familiar with the matter previously told CNN. IheartIheartTesla
The NYT/Siena College (Upshot, I guess) polls also have good news for Biden, in nearly all the battleground states. I am concerned it may have some built in bias though (for instance, it has NC +9 for Biden among RVs). I thought Nate Cohn recognized some of the pitfalls of 2016, so we'll have to wait and see how it stacks up against other polls.

Fucking idiots. First off, on paper, it looks like I was unaffected because we kept teaching. But the two to three extra jobs I work in summer were either canceled or I can't work them because I'm immuno compromised. Their 1200 bucks is a third of what I usually make. Second, people are spending more on things like grocery delivery or other services to protect themselves and it's substantially more. These assholes are so out of touch. I'm not getting too worried about the specifics, NYT/Siena College do good work, and these polls paint a clear picture that Biden is leading by double digits nationally and by 7-9 points in the swing states that he needs to win to take the EC. 4.5 more months till the election, a lot can change. No matter the consequences. Sorry for double post but man, I haven't watched Colbert since the Colbert Report, and what a change he's undergone. To the linked video, I don't know what to think about Bolton at this point. Anyone who honestly believed they could work with Trump is at the least naive, more likely they're just opportunists who thought they could manipulate him. Jesus, you used to really go all in for one party or the other, regular blow outs of 400+ for the winning party. What changed to make it a more 'balanced' (as if US politics could ever be described as balanced) electorate? There used to be a lot more overlap between the parties. There were liberal Republicans and conservative Democrats; to say nothing of moderates on both sides. This meant it was much easier for a Presidential candidate to get a lot more crossover support if they were sufficiently appealing. At the same time though, the electoral college masks the support that losing candidates got. In 1984, Mondale got 40.6% of the vote, but only 13 electoral votes (and if 4,000 votes in Minnesota went differently he'd only have got 3); whereas Clinton got 48.2% and got 227 electoral votes. That 8% loss is massive, if Mondale's loss in electoral votes was proportional to his decline from Clinton he'd have gotten 191 electoral votes. Which is a blowout, but not like what actually happened

I'm not worried, but more curious about some of the states like NC that are almost too good to be true. At the same time, I know Nate Cohn and Silver have had quite the debate about the lessons from 2016, so I am also curious about the innards of these new polls (for instance, about weighing by education). At the same time, we got some good polls out of PA, and I feel more comfortable about Biden's lead there. Wisconsin too. Would be nice to see where Georgia is at the moment. IheartIheartTesla
Double post, but NC is somewhat important since Cunningham can ride the Biden coat tails to beat Tillis, Some of the recent polls have seen him pull ahead, so for this snapshot in time the Senate races look exciting too. Relic
The American political system is broken, and stupid. Literally the ONLY reason to vote for Biden is that he's not Trump. HoodedCrow
It’s not exciting...and surely we are done with “just exciting” as in having a monster as president. Why to vote for Joe: he may not the best communicator in all situations, but the guy helped author and promote bipartisan bills. He is no dummy and understands constitutional restraint...so boring. He has his head around governmental functioning. That’s a very tangled web. He seems like an emotionally intact Decent person, with real feeling for people, and desire to do the right thing. Boring! Obviously, black is not an issue for him. What does it take to not be a racist or misogynist, and have power in the United States? There are so many closeted bigots. Biden will not procure a slimy Attorney General and subvert the judiciary or meddle with investigations, or sentencing desirable to the crooked president. Ive heard he’s a good debater, prepper, and works well with others. To a great extent. He knows how to be a rational calming leader, with lots of exposure to different social groups. He sounds very much like he will hand the reigns to a reasonable person.
