The Jungle Prince of Delhi, based on the New York Times exposé about the fake royal family of Oudh, is in development as a series at Amazon.

The streamer has secured the exclusive rights to the story, which was also profiled on the paper’s podcast The Daily and was a 2020 Pulitzer Prize finalist.

Mira Nair, who recently directed six-part BBC drama A Suitable Boy, is attached to direct and exec produce. The project, which is in development, comes from Chernobyl producer Sister, Community producer Krasnoff/Foster Entertainment and Fourth and Twenty Eight Films, run by Philadelphia Eagles minority owner Christina Lurie.

The series tells the story of the eccentric royal family of Oudh, deposed aristocrats living in a ruined palace in the Indian capital, claiming to be the heirs to a fallen kingdom. Written by Ellen Barry, it turns out that Prince Cyrus, who claimed to be a member of the Muslim kingdom captured by the British East India company in the 19th century was in fact Mickey Butt, the son of the registrar of Lucknow University.

The project is being adapted into an international series that tells the story of the family, set against the backdrop of the partition of India.

One of the first releases of the Netflix acquired Millarworld Universe is the TV series Jupiter’s Legacy. Based on the comics, the first season is likely due for release in 2020 but we already know plenty about the new season. Here’s what we know so far about season one of Jupiter’s Legacy coming to Netflix.

Jupiter’s Legacy is an upcoming Netflix Original superhero-drama based on the comic of the same name by creator Mark Millar. Amongst the Millarworld comics many regard Jupiter’s Legacy and subsequent prequel Jupiter’s Circle as some of Millar’s best work. The superhero drama will be the first title from the Millarworld comics to release on Netflix.

Directing the exciting series is the former Daredevil writer, producer, and director Steven S. DeKnight who has signed an overall deal with Netflix.

In September 2019, it was announced that Steven S. DeKnight has stepped down from the project citing creative differences.

In late January 2020, Mark Millar tweeted to say that filming had now wrapped on the first season and celebrated in London.

Among the directors listed for the first season include:

Charlotte Brändström (known for Conspiracy of Silence)
Marc Jobst (known for his work on Netflix’s Daredevil)
Christopher J. Byrne (known for American Gods)
Steven S. DeKnight (known for Pacific Rift and Netflix’s Daredevil)

In April 2020, Mark Millar provided an update on production saying that the FX work was continuing to make good progress.

La Révolution | Teaser | Netflix

Very interesting. I have a feeling that I may know where this story is headed, but I like the mystery that they're putting here with this one. Mostly though, I just want more TV shows or streaming serials that aren't "dramas" or necessarily set in the "modern-day" (unless it has a good twist to it).

Anyone have any suggestions?

Versailles, three seasons on netflix, starring George Blagdon, the actor who played Athelstan in The Vikings.  He makes a great King Louis. But the really interesting figures -- my favorites -- are the Duke of Orleans, his lover the Chevalier de Lorraine (who has the best hair of them all!), his second wife, Elisabeth Charlotte von der Pfalz; nicknamed "Lieselotte", and King Louis XIV's chief enforcer, Fabien Marchal.  There are a host of other characters too, who are interesting.  Politics galore!  Not always particularly historically accurate, but in some ways, very much so.

Also the BBC The Musketeers -- 3 seasons also.  I loved this one so much.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Musketeers

As for La Révolution -- I am suspicious of a series debuting in These Times of Elections and Jackboots in our cities' streets that is o so sympathetic and making victims of the 1% . . . .

I’m looking forward to Lovecraft Country. Haven’t read the book, and I’m not even sure quite what to make of it, but it looks intriguing. Good cast, too. I see the actress from Fury Road (Abbey Lee) who is pretty much my head-cannon for Daenerys (a little older version anyways) is in it.

Young Wallander | Teaser |

Quote

A reimagining of Kurt Wallander as a cop in his early 20s in 2020 Sweden. From the producers of "Wallander," based on Henning Mankell's novels.

What’s more this is looking increasingly likely that this will not be an origin story – more a “modern interpretation of the legendary criminal policeman Kurt Wallander.”

Netflix says: “This time it is taking place in contemporary Sweden – and a society that is becoming increasingly violent. When Kurt fails to save a teenager from a terrible attack, he must learn to live with the guilt in order to solve the case.”

The synopsis for the upcoming six-part drama reads: "Based on the bestselling Kurt Wallander novels by Henning Mankell, a modern reimagining of the legendary detective, Kurt Wallander, who must navigate the increasingly violent environment of present-day Sweden.

"When he is unable to save a teenager from a gruesome attack, Wallander must learn to cope with his guilt in order to solve the crime. The story focuses on the formative experiences – professional and personal - faced by Kurt as a recently graduated police officer in his early twenties."

The story focuses on the formative experiences – professional and personal - faced by Kurt as a recently graduated police officer in his early twenties. The English-language drama series is told over six serialized episodes and features both British and Swedish cast.

Adam Pålsson plays the titular character and the series also stars Richard Dillane (Superintendent Hemberg), Leanne Best (Frida Rask) and Ellise Chappell (Mona).

This has just made me decide to sign up for HBO Max... next month.

So is this not an adaptation of anything? It would be cool if Scott came up with something original.
