Francis Ford Coppola to Spend His Own $120 Million on New Film

Quote

Francis Ford Coppola is putting down $120 million of his own money to make his long-in-the-works passion project “Megalopolis.” Coppola wrote “Megalopolis” in the early 1980s and has been reportedly in talks with Oscar Isaac, Forest Whitaker and Cate Blanchett to finally get the film off the ground. The issue Coppola has faced is that the movie is such an ambitious and expensive original idea that no major studio would ever touch it.

Funny, because here's another show about a post-apocalyptic (sort of) Manhattan...

Based -- very, very loosely based, as it turns out -- on Brian Wood's Vertigo series. I knew they were changing the main POV character, but I had assumed they would just make an important secondary character the new focal lens through which the story is told. Instead, they've completely jettisoned the former main character and the general plot that went with him, and seem to have twisted the secondary character into something else entirely. They've basically used the setting and a couple of characters and just crafted something totally different. It's very weird.

Ernie Hudson has been cast as Herbert “Magic” Williams, in the new Quantum Leap pilot.  Magic is actually one of the people who Sam leaped into during the original series, in the episode “The Leap Home Part II”.

Looks like we aren't getting S3 His Dark Materials until autumn at the earliest due to the amount of VFX needed.

They will be able to go straight into filming the sequels at this rate as Dafne Keen will be old enough.

True Detective season 4 ‘in the works’ at HBO

Quote

Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that the premium cable network has recruited Issa Lopez (Tigers Are Not Afraid, Secondary Effects) to pen a script for a new cycle that has been dubbed True Detective: Night Country. Additionally, Barry Jenkins is attached to exec produce the anthology. Should season four move forward — it’s currently in development — Lopez would direct the pilot in addition to serving as an exec producer.

Jenkins, for his part, spent years working on The Underground Railroad at Amazon under his first-look deal with the streamer. The Moonlight Oscar winner is repped by CAA, Jewerl Ross and attorney Jamie Feldman.

Lopez, repped by M88, Rand Holston and Hirsch Wallerstein, is an award-winning Mexican producer, writer and director. She’s developed projects with the likes of Guillermo del Toro, Noah Hawley and Jason Blum

Holy cow!  Are you familiar with other works produced by this group?  Have the works been good?

Absolutely first class. They're doing His Dark Materials at the moment, and that's going really well. They've also just landed a big deal to produce Doctor Who for RTD onwards.
