Today is a good day!

I can’t believe I was the last person to post in this thread. Well today is a good day for two reasons.

1. Being able to post that all but two of the above mentioned works is done and dusted since my last post makes me feel both proud and happy.

2. After a rushed and stressful morning, my dad came to the rescue in the afternoon. He put together a couple pieces of furniture, set up the tv and spent an hour breaking up polystyrene packaging waste and taking it to a recycling center. Then he even drove me to the hardware store and back. It was both great help and tremendous emotional support that I had a buddy in getting things done. I hope I said that enough to him too. And there’s just something respectable yet fun in watching someone create level layers from polystyrene chunks that fit one another so the box closes, while wearing a suit with a tie.

I got out kitesurfing today for the first time in a while. The wind was absolutely perfect so there were loads of people out. I think there might have been around a hundred or so other kiters on the water. The air was filled with rolling banks of mist and low grey clouds, pierced with occasional beams of golden sunlight, and against this backdrop, dozens and dozens of whirling mutli-coloured kites. It was one of the most beautiful and joyous scenes I've seen in a while.

And since then I've got home and baked some spiced apple cake. It's been a very good Sunday.

Our upstairs neighbors moved out! They've been making our lives a misery for the last nine months, running and screaming inside on hardwood floors for five-six hours a day, every day (I have logs to prove it). I just realized I've been sitting working at the kitchen table for a full two hours and the lights haven't shaken or or flickered once due to impacts above me.

Finally started a new job and signed my contract. I guess this is good because it’ll distract me from COVID worries and family drama and it’s self-earned income and shit along with handy benefits that make life easier. (It’s also a goodbye to having time for... well life, but this is a positivity thread, so we’ll ignore it)

  • 2 weeks later...

Nobody had a good day for 9 days??? :(

I, however, got up at 5:30, stressed about a handyman completing half the work I needed done and remained grumpy and unproductive for the entire morning. THEN, I called the glass person who I neglected/procrastinated for three weeks, who told me they got the measurements from the locksmith, produced the glass I need and are ready to install at any agreed date next week AND he remembered that I also need shower cabinet adjustments. I feel swept off my feet. I love these guys. The locksmith and this glass person, they are separate companies but work as a vendor team and they are the most reliable people I met throughout this unfortunate reno process. Went on do complete some tasks I’ve been pushing off for days and had two glasses of wine while reading through new job materials. I actually feel weirdly motivated. Not necessarily about tying down 8+ hours of my day and creating short-term, made-up value that’s not actually necessary for anybody, but to be cooperating and with actual adults that are my peers. I really missed that last part I guess. And I am willing and able to ignore the first part so I can bathe in the positive feels of the latter.

Well I am expecting to be a granddad any time now but so far no news. Baby is taking her time.

Grandparents are the best, and as a parent an absolute lifesaver. I hope restrictions where you are allow you to see them asap.

13 week scan, everything looks fine, and most importantly there is only one in there.

Can't imagine anything more horrific than spawning more than one sprog at the same time. Congrats, man.

First time round i wanted twins 'get it out the way in one go' was my feeling. Now I'd be devastated.

Stopped by the casino on the way home from work.

The card tables weren't open so I put $20 in a penny slot (quick hits)

Won $1,200 off a 50 cent bet.

My family is in for some very good Christmas presents.

Nice man that is a rarity, congrats! That’s some Nick Papagiorgio luck.

When my wife and I got married we eloped in Texas and flew directly out for a short honeymoon in Las Vegas. Neither of us are really gamblers but she was adamant for weeks before the trip that we needed to play roulette - specifically at our hotel - and play the numbers of our wedding day, which was the same day we arrived. So we got to Vegas, went up to the room to change and stuff and went down to the casino floor and went straight to a roulette table and put $20 on each of the three numbers of the date of that day. The way I remember it is that the dealer barely suppressed an eye roll, knowing that these n00bs were about torch sixty bucks, but one of the numbers hit and we won $700. Of course Vegas has a way of reclaiming your winnings, but it was the perfect start to the trip and offset some of our other expenses. And we considered it a good omen on our wedding day.

My mum ordered me a filter coffee maker online(!) for my birthday and she’s getting it delivered here. This is so 21st century of her. And incredibly sweet, because I really wanted a filter coffee maker. Goodbye, awful capsule coffee I never drank anyway...!
