Then I'd say, "Sandor was horribly abused and hurt by his family. Many react poorly to his appearance that he can't change. He prides himself on how he faces the truth of how harsh and cruel the world is but he doesn't realize what a self-fulfilling prophesy he has made that. He didn't run off and become a merchant or a mummer or a maester. He chose a life of violence and it gives him regular proof of how violent the world is.
