Universal Sword Donor
On 1/1/2021 at 6:54 PM, Lord Lannister said: I get that. The topic question was why Maekar allowed it though, which is more questionable. From his point of view, some measure of security would be required. Even being on the road with a bit of money and some nice things doing Dunk's hedge knight gig in more style would've been a far cry from life at court. From a narrative standpoint, Egg keeping his identity secret might've been less of a plot hole there. Dunk's desires should've been less of a factor to Maekar. Dunk literally said he wouldn’t take him except on the terms he dictated. Maekar chose to allow that instead of having a third terrible son. We don’t get the inner workings we just see a hedge knight dictate terms to a prince of the blood. We can debate the inner workings of Maekars thought process but the context of Dunks assertions and demands withimplied agreement really only provides for the one explanation of Maekar ensuring his youngest son grows up “in the real world.” I’m sure grrm has said something specific on it
