Let's hear it for THE BOYS [Onwards to Season 3]

Episode four spoilers:

Spoiler

So it had to have been Stan Edgar who is behind the boys getting the V24 and the info on the lab where Soldier Boy was on ice, right?  Homelander is losing it and suddenly a hero that can apparently steal someone's powers (or at least make others powerless) is released into the wild...seems like a mighty big coincidence.

Also, this episode had multiple deaths by dildo and one death by Sonic the Hedgehog.

That seems reasonable to me. IIRC they found out about both Soldier Boy and got the Temp V from Maeve, and her working for Edgar behind the scenes makes a lot of sense. Them using the Boys as guinea pigs for that shit would also make sense.

Still doesn't answer why Soldier Boy is sitting powerless in Russia mind you, but Soldier Boy being the contingency plan for Homelander (in a variety of ways) as an adaptation of another storyline in the comics makes quite a bit of sense.

I haven't read the comics, so anything I throw out is just spitballing.  But the logical reason to introduce a superhero who can take away the powers of other superheroes is to use him to kill Homelander, who thus far has been effectively indestructible.

Also, the theme of this season so far seems to be "be careful what you wish for," and so I could easily see Homelander getting killed only for Soldier Boy, or perhaps a mad with power Butcher, to be even worse.

In the comics (comics spoilers):

Spoiler

There's no real way to take away powers. What Vought does is clone Homelander and train him as an assassin specifically to kill Homelander, and that person is Black Noir.

Butcher always has powers in the comics. And he does become horrible, but in a different way - he develops a way to blow up anyone with V in their bloodstream.

I can see the show making Soldier boy the actual person who can stand up to homelander, or use the way to take away the powers, or both.

I was expecting Supersonic to die at some point but I didn’t expect it so soon.

That affected more than I expected.

Spoiler

I expected him to die, too, but I expected to see it. Did we even know what his powers were?

This was a gangster power move type killing.

A-Train's energy drink commercial was amazing.

A shout out to that Kendall Jenner tone deaf coke commercial fer shure.

The ones I care about are Starlight and Kamiko.  Everyone else is a shitbag.

In some ways the worst shitbags are the Ashley and the newscaster whatever his name is.  Pathetic scum-chum at the very bottom of the slimed out barrel.

Given that in this episode we have him

Spoiler

Extolling the virtues of playing all sides and not looking particularly bothered by Homelanders apparent coup, yeah I think that's very likely.

Yeah, I read that and thought “What the actual hell?” but then the episode did not disappoint!

Season 2 was weaker for me, but I'm very much enjoying this season.

Homelander is a wonderful character that really elevates this show. I tried reading the graphic novels and found them to be poorly done, so credit goes to the writers for creating an engaging story from that mess.

It is my hope that Homelander's character arc culminates with him slaughtering millions of people in the most comically gory way. I doubt the writers will go that way because I suppose it would be deemed too edgy and too much of a "loss" for the protagonists, but for me that would be one of the few satisfying ways to conclude this kind of character, with all the excellent build up they have managed.

Infinity War snap… but done in The Boys style.

You might enjoy Invincible, the animated series on Amazon Prime (US), if you haven't checked it out yet.

The social media team for Boys is so very good:

I also enjoy that a lot of people roleplay into it on the Vought International YouTube channel by leaving comments in the vein of how people comment on news clips, music videos, or movie trailers.

Ennis's particular voice is an acquired taste. There are aspects of the Ennis comic that I prefer to the TV show, myself, but that said I think the show is better than it has any right to be and that's in large part to do with the writers handling changes pretty well. Though I'm not a fan of the Ryan storyline (which is notably very different to what actually happened with Homelander's rape-begotten son...)

More like Alan Moore style in Miracleman #15 when Kid Miracleman does... well, this to London (warning: a gruesome, ghastly bit of art from John Totleben).

It's a significant upgrade from the comic storyline. His wife actually gets to, ya know, do something, have some agency, make some choices. Butcher's motivation isn't entirely based on her dying. It's not nearly as stereotypical or shitty or all rapey like Ennis tended to make the comic series whenever he was in a rut. And Butcher having a relationship with a son and then fucking it up because of his hatred is a lot more poignant and monstrous than him just being a douchebag for years.

I personally prefer that the world isn't run exclusively by Vought in the comic compared to how it is in the show; Vought is a shitty corp, but it's basically got only a couple of product lines; it isn't Boeing and Lockheed-Martin and Disney and Marvel and Armalite and McDonalds all in one, and a lot of their hubris comes from attempting to use superheroes as the solution to everything. But I also appreciate the Verhoevening of the world of the Boys.
