DA:I is comfortably one of the worst - if not the worst - AAA release of the decade. It's a just a big, empty, hollow MMO but with one player in it, which completely defeats the point of it.

Whatever reason it had for existing is completely negated by Skyrim - which does the open-world stuff far better - and The Witcher 3 - which does story and character far better.

I quite enjoyed DA:O, DA:A and even DA2, but DA:I was a complete mess.

Completely AGREE

The Epic Store is giving away one free game a day for the next 15 days.

15 free games I'll never get around to playing... still not enough to bribe me into making an account and downloading their infernal launcher.

Rumour is that The Witcher 3Horizon: Zero Dawn and Hitman 2 (the new one) are all in the rotation.

I saw the same rumour early on. it didn't have Cities: Skylines on its list and also started out with Dying Light, so I assume it was bogus.

Also, Aliens: Colonial Marines

Also:

Ride to Hell: Retribution (though maybe it's just AA)

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5 (truly terrible, was thought to be the end of the franchise until the 1+2 remake came out)

The Quiet Man (Square Enix at its finest)

NBA 2k10 (The casino simulator with a basketball mini-game)

Left Alive (this was supposed to be the next Metal Gear Solid)

And that's just off the top of my head. There's loads worse big games than Dragon Age: Inquisition. Which, in fact, wasn't a bad game at all. It was a good game surrounded by layers of dullness and grinding.

Also, Mass Effect: Andromeda. There's no accounting for taste, and I know some of you geeks like it, but Andromeda was so poorly received that it got no DLC and now we're doing prequels instead.

By my count that's two games from BioWare alone this decade that are about-as-close-as-objectively-worse as you can get in an inherently subjective analysis.

Well thanks for that, I did already buy it. :P Highly doubt it’s worse than Anthem, Destiny 2, Battlefront 2 etc. How would you compare it to Shadow of War? I didn’t much like that one myself.

Anyway, I was quite enjoying the mini games in the little Yuletide event they put in the AC Valhalla update until the quest chain broke on the first mission. And the patch didn’t fix a previous broken side quest either. I guess that’s console gaming these days.

Fuck, put Destiny 1 on that list if we're just calling out bad games that are reasonably worse than Inquisition. It wasn't no Colonial Marines, but about 6 hours into that game I was apoplectic.

My best friend (who was so excited for the game that I bought an Xbone to play it with him) was trying to explain to me that the "gameplay loop" meant we had to go fight bosses again on the hardest difficulty so that someone might get a legendary gear to use the next time we fought the bosses again on the hardest difficulty so that someone might get a legendary gear to use the next time we fought the bosses again on the hardest difficulty so that someone might get a legendary gear to use the next time we fought the bosses again on the hardest difficulty so that someone might get a legendary gear to use the next time we fought the bosses again on the hardest difficulty so that someone might get a legendary gear to use the next time we fought the bosses again on the hardest difficulty so that someone might get a legendary gear to use the next time we fought the bosses again on the hardest difficulty so that someone might get a legendary gear to use the next time we fought the bosses again on the hardest difficulty so that someone might get a legendary gear to use the next time we fought the bosses again on the hardest difficulty so that someone might get a legendary gear to use the next time we fought the bosses again on the hardest difficulty so that someone might get a legendary gear to use the next time we fought the bosses again on the hardest difficulty so that someone might get a legendary gear to use the next time we fought the bosses again on the hardest difficulty so that someone might get a legendary gear to use the next time we fought the bosses again on the hardest difficulty so that someone might get a legendary gear to use the next time we fought the bosses again on the hardest difficulty.

I just considered myself lucky to have bought the Master Chief Collection with my shiny new Xbox1, went and played a real game.

People can like what they please, but Bungie wrote themselves a one-way ticket to my shit list with that stunt. Having a shell of a campaign somehow made it even worse, because it was only there to trick people like me into thinking we were getting a story based shooter and not a LIVE SERVICE.

Meanwhile CDPr has similarly displeased me. Not to such a degree, because I think Cyberpunk is a good game and a lot of fun, but I was sold on Mass Effect but with cyber, punk, and a fuckload of guns. What I'm playing is an open world first person shooter with some interesting but non-dynamic conversation prompt commands. They really played up the role playing aspect, what with it being based off a tabletop game, but that's just not what was delivered.

This has been video game ranting with Jace, we hope you've enjoyed your experience and please come again soon or we will be forced to induce rantipathic tendencies into your bloodstream through microscopic chemicals in your bathing water. Have a nice day!

I just discovered that Zero Punctuation is still a thing; it must be at least 10 years since I've watched any of Yahtzee's reviews. I'm surprised he's still going at it, and with what seems to be all the same random jpegs that I remember. Good for him. But what a blast from the past.

DA:I put me off playing anything by BioWare ever again, but just about everyone I know who's played both have been unanimous in saying that ME:A was the better game (once it stopped self-destructing and sending people's eyeballs floating around the room).

Anthem is a good shout though.

I thought Shadows of Mordor was poor enough that I never touched the sequel. Shadows of Mordor had a brilliant, amazing central mechanic that no other game really used (apart from XCOM2: War of the Chosen, oddly, and then only sort of) and that seemed to give it a free pass on underwhelming combat, an incredibly tiny map for what it was trying to achieve (to the point where you have multiple orc clans in the same fortress) and a hysterically un-Tolkien atmosphere. I wasn't really moved to try out the sequel.

Multiplayer shooters are very much not my thing, but Destiny 2 seemed relatively well-received on that score, and Battlefront 2 seems to be better-regarded now it doesn't have any lootboxes and is dirt cheap.

After approximately 200 hours with Hades I have finished more-or-less everything now that I have the trophy in the lobby for finishing a run with 32 heat (a number related to which and how many of the various optional difficulty mods you have turned on). I'm still raring for the next run though, and can easily see myself putting in the next 200 hours without tiring of it which is really a testament to how good the game is. I'd like to see if I can repeat 32 heat wins with each weapon, and with different difficulty options used to get up to 32, as well as continue working on my amateur speedrunning skills (my best time is around 9 minutes at this point, which I'm pretty proud of). I'm also thinking of starting a new playthrough to see how my skills will translate to a new game without all those nice upgrades I've unlocked with all the resources I've gained over my runs, hopefully I'll manage a win a bit faster than my first time!

Unquestionably Hades is my game of the year at this point, and it's making a strong application to become one of my favourite games of all time, though I have a bit of a cooling off period on new games before I start saying that about them. Still while I had fun with a few other games this year (notably Doom Eternal was very entertaining) nothing else came close to consideration.

The sequel is a beautiful, if tedious game, with lots of really, really strange design decisions, including a sexy Shelob.

A friend described it as Arkham Middle-earth, for whatever value that might hold for you, having not played the Arkham games (no interest in them).

But it's really frustratingly tedious, with no easy way to save a game, a wild and frenetic set of menus, and the much-vaunted Nemesis system absolutely bored me. I get to fight different verbally-abusive orcs with vaguely Cockney-sounding accents in the place of story progression? Why?

And the damn thing is 95 gigs in size. That's the first time I've owned/played a game that hit nearly 100 gigs.

It's an ugly, boring, slog of a game. I didn't like it much as a gamer, a fan of RPGs, nor as a Tolkien fan. Ditto the first game, which felt ugly and drab and repetitive.

I enjoyed DA:I quite a bit, and I had fun with Anthem's gameplay despite the nothing story and there being absolutely nothing to do at endgame.

If we're talking absolutely disastrous releases I think FO76 absolutely has to take the crown, however much they might have improved it since (I still think it's pretty crap). Arkham Knight's PC release and Tony Hawk Pro Skater 5 have gotta be on the list too.

With you on this. Hades is really a phenomenal game. I've loved everything Supergiant have put out but they really nailed this one in particular.

Stole my GOTY spot from Death Stranding, which I adored despite 100% expecting to hate it.
