US Politics 46 - And there was much rejoicing

In the coming two months of recount and frivolous lawsuit territory, are there any odds on Trump doing treason-y things to the extent of being removed from office by the 25th, or is that still my pipe dream of seeing him forcibly evicted from the WH like a festering turd in America’s bowels?

Or is the writing on the wall for future R leadership based on the election results, and the best we can get is their radio silence, except for Cruz and Graham, while tantrums and callous indifference about anything not the election happen til January?

This thread with more details is also amazing:

Particularly this bit: "I’ve arrived at Four Seasons Landscaping. It’s next to an adult book store called Fantasy Island."

I also like the bit where half the press leave once they hear the race has been called for Biden.

The VEEPiest VEEP that ever did VEEP.

Haven't had time to read the whole thread yet so sorry if someone already thought about this, but...

I want to see a re-edit of the end of Special Edition Return of the Jedi but instead of showing Tatooine, Bespin, Naboo, and Coruscant all celebrating they are showing New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco, and Washington D.C.

I don't know...maybe at the part where Luke sees the force ghosts instead of Obiwan, Yoda, and Anakin it's John Lewis, RBG, and John McCain...something like that...

Margin in Georgia has ticked up again, now at Biden +9,160.

I saw it suggested early today that a lot of those outstanding "military and overseas ballots" are likely a combination of CDC personnel, Coca Cola employees, and Delta employees rather than military. So it would make sense if they were actually pro-Biden, and it appears they have been thus far.

There was also a lot of provisional ballots to count, more than the overseas ballots. Not 100% sure how Georgia runs its election, but looks like there may have been a lot of people who ended up voting provisionally in dem areas for whatever reason.

I hadn't fully appreciated how much I was unable to enjoy political humour in the last four years. I've had Season 4 of Veep sitting unwatched on my shelf since 2016 (and none of the later seasons at all). Maybe I can now enjoy laughing at fictional American politics again.

He probably hopes for a spot on Faux Noose.

Not with his falling-out with Murdoch (although it's unclear how serious that is).

The word is that Trump's team have been considering creating their own Trump Network and those plans are now "being dusted off."

Then you should take Delta out of your equation, because all the US employees doing rotations overseas are mechanics. ;) Not typically a Democratic lean, there.

(Full disclosure: I worked for them for two years a long time ago)

Fair enough.

Meanwhile, Arizona lead down to 18,713 after Trump got 67% of a Pinal County vote dump. That's unfortunately I think right on target for what he needs; so hopefully the next Maricopa county misses for him as much as the last one did.

It increasingly looks like he's going to barely take it.

I think this might actually be helpful - it speaks to the integrity of the process if continuing the count corrected Fox's call.

I wouldn't say increasingly, the last Apache county vote dump really hurt him; he needed about 40% and got 18%. If the remaining votes there are just as blue, that'll be enough to counter what's left in PInal county. The two big questions are what does the rest of Maricopa look like, and how does Pima look. There's enough votes between the two of them that so long as Trump misses on them it doesn't really matter what the other counties are like. They don't have enough votes between them.

I keep wondering. Does Harris had the stuff to win in 2024?

I'm supporting her provided I'm convinced that she's serious in supporting pushing progressive priorities as much as is possible.

Seriously everyone, can we please focus on the fact that Team Trump’s one press conference today we held in the parking lot of a landscaping company, between a porn shop and a crematorium, because they thought it was the Four Seasons? NEVER FORGET!

So long as Biden is healthy, I think he absolutely runs for re-election. He might not have originally planned to, but after seeing how close this election was and how much he had to outrun congressional Democrats, I think he'll decide that only he is capable of winning in '24.

problem is, the US, is at best fundamentally *center-right,* NOT centrists or center left.  Progressive measures will be incremental at best, and to have *any* chance of success have to appeal to a right/center right mentality.

And the circular firing squad begins over 2024 “progressive priorities” and who meets the progressive purity tests...and she hasn’t even been sworn in as VP :bang:

Should I not push for progressive priorities? I spent time and money this year pushing to get both elected. I'm getting involved in local politics to work to make things better in my backyard. I'm committing my support to her when she runs as long as I feel like she's committed to the *current* path of the administration. If they start heading backwards, I may change my mind. Why is that controversial?
