And yeah, polls suck are bullshit whatever, BUT

I hope you don't think those are encouraging numbers. They are quite low, and suggest 10s of millions of people not willing to accept the current count, probably millions not willing to believe any count giving Biden a win as anything other than fraudulent. Thousands angry enough to want to do something about it, but too chicken shit to actually do anything. And hundreds (at least) not too chicken shit to do something about it who will try to do something about it.

I agree with all of this, but I only would ask, like you, that we don't totally dismiss the danger.

Aye it's still a concern.  The much bigger concern though is if some international crisis actually does happen in the next 70 days.

Controlling for the seemingly infinite idiocy of the GOP electorate/Trumpists, it's rather unquestionable those are encouraging numbers.

Still, 50 million-odd people being so divorced from reality as to think Trump legit won? This is not good.

Since I can only view this from a national perspective, why not Senator The Rock. :P

(I know it won't ever happen, but a part of me would love to see former Congresswoman Hill get it. Her star was every bit as on the rise as Porter's before her husband acted like a complete piece of shit)

Newsom is between A rock and a hard place. No matter who he picks it will piss some folks off. Picking The Rock as Senator would just piss everyone off. Although it might be interesting to watch.

I totally agree about Hill's husband. Or was it her husband who did it? Now that I think about it wasn't it a former employee and lover? I could be wrong, but I don't think she was married to the scum. Correct me if I'm wrong.

It's better than the 100+ million that we thought.

50 million people believing in bullshit is pretty much par for the course in America. That's downright awesome numbers!

Sure, it's discouraging if you had, ya know, any hope in the human race but from a purely pragmatic perspective those are great numbers. It means that broadly speaking what Trump is doing is pretty unpopular and kind of stupid, and Biden just sitting back and watching Trump take more Ls is a great strategy.

Hi, I'm the American public, nice to meet you!

It was her (soon to be) ex-husband that leaked everything including the revenge porn.

A bunch of those will only be on the fence until the counting is actually finished.

I am much more concerned about those who approve of the shitty interference schemes Trump is going to come up with over the next couple of months.

oh look at all the wins. Trump's team filed badly in Nevada, was told they could file again within 21 days or simply drop it, and they...dropped it.

It is remarkable how much money is being spent on lawyers effectively doing nothing at all.

I definitely do have hope, faith even. But that's a long term thing. In the medium term things are pretty hopeless, the main thing I'm looking for is minimising the extent of the apocalyptic wasteland that our post-apocalyptic descendants will inherit.

As I've said before, the primary way you're going to have to do that isn't with reason, it's with religion or some other kind of faith-based morality choice that makes the environment and its preservation a massive scary thing that all must do. You're not going to convince people that in 20 years there's a threat that might happen. You've got to put the fear of god into 'em instead. Alternately, you have to rely on leaders not sucking.

Nope, not unless those couple of 5-stars are actually willing to die for Trump, in front of a court marshal firing squad. Unless it is a unified military take over, or at least all the JC's bar the Coast Guard guy, ain't no one breaking ranks to try to keep Trump in power.

There are no 5-Star Generals in the US Military.  The highest rank is 4-Stars.  The last living 5-Star General was Omar Bradley.  He died in 1981.  Only 9 people have earned 5-star rank in US history.

FYI.

And the grift goes on. They certainly seem to be doing nothing very effectively indeed. So does this mean the fight for Nevada is effectively over?

That's not happening, at least not enough leaders not sucking all at the same time to be effective. When I say long term, I mean 100+ years, not 20 years.

ALL the fights are effectively over. Trump keeps fighting because he's making more and more money, Republicans keep encouraging it because they're hopeful for the Georgia election, but it really, really is over. There is no legal way to win. There's probably no realistic illegal way to win.

It is now simply about mitigating the possibly incredibly large amount of damage that an incontinent cranky toddler with command of the most powerful nation on earth can do.

Humans haven't stopped sucking for thousands of years. They're not going to magically stop sucking in another 100.

Also, apparently chances are decent the reason this stupid purging of military officials is happening is, as always, because Trump is an egomaniac.

Quote

The issue may have played a role in Trump’s surprise decision on Monday to fire Defense Secretary Mark T. Esper. According to the senior defense official, Esper wrote a letter last month to John Ratcliffe, the director of national intelligence, strongly endorsing Nakasone’s position and “urging that the information not be released due to the harm it would do to national security, including specific harm to the military,” the senior defense official said.

Trump’s ceaseless attempts to argue that the Russia investigation was a “hoax” — and to force the intelligence community to declassify information he believes would support this view — may animate some of his otherwise inexplicable moves.

But thanks to modern technology, it's possible (not likely, but possible) that at some point in the next 100 years, leaders of human societies may no longer be human. :)

So how much of this incompetence is for show while the real threat is happening just out of view?

That's a hell of a long con.

Even if, they'll still probably suck.
