Argon would have a hella claim regardless if he married Dany or not.

Yeah, I know.

Marrying them removed two potential allies through marriage to the Targaryen cause, and hopefully gives a crucial generation needed to solidify House Baratheon on the Throne. As @Lord Varys said, once Aegon bends the knee and renounces his claim, his descendants are left with nothing. What's crucial is that Aegon's knee remain bent, which marrying him to Dany helps.

even if he bends the knee, there's no way of ensuring his descendants' knees will stay bent, in fact, they likely won't, they'd rebel within a few generations. Warding Aegon is great, making him renounce his kingship is even better, but then he should raise him as if he was one of his children and ship him off to the Wall at age 13.

Fuck no. The King is weak enough already, butchering the Crownlands would make him into a puppet.

The king will be weak regardless, unless he's a Tyrell, he remains strong because of alliances and people loving him, so he needs to reward his allies. But even if he keeps the Crownlands, it makes more sense to integrate them to the Stormlands.

And how is giving a boy with a much stronger claim than you a lordship not a weaker position than splitting the land between your allies?

Yes, but:

A, we've already established Tywin is way too often needlessly cruel and or stupid

B, the only Durrandon to have died was Argillac, on the field of battle. Things would have been as smooth is he had a son whom Orys then murdered or sent to the Wall before marrying Argella.

Yeah, it was easier,, but I don't see how it could hurt.

Sidenote, another thing Robert should've done in this timeline is adopting Dornish Law, it would bring Dorne closer to his cause, it would make him more beloved by the smallfolk (a priority of his) and it would legitimize his claim even more, both by his grandmother and Rhaenys.

How much of an effect it has when the guy in charge renounces his claim can be shown with Ronnel Arryn. He and his mother bent the knee to Visenya and Aegon, and later his brother Artos pretty much failed at rallying support when he tried to make himself the new King of the Vale.

There is not necessarily a need to kill a man or prevent him from fathering legitimate children if he formally and publicly gives up his claim.

Aegon the Conqueror did all that with the Starks, the Lannisters, and the Arryns.

We also see Aegon II making Rhaenyra such an offer with him allowing her to keep Dragonstone and pass it on to her son Jacaerys. There is no guarantee that cadet branches like that - or lords who submit - do have to rise (again) a couple of generations down the line. They can, but such rebellions can and do happen for many reasons, many of which the people involved just make up.
