I see now that there are links to previous years' threads in there. It seems like they used to be organised at the beginning of October. Which probably means it is too late this year. :/ Ah well.

Yeah, I saw that first we need the questionnaires. Mmmmmhhh

Wow, the idea is very exciting! If someone organises this I think I'd be in.

Although...maybe if it was a little less than $50 would be better.

Ah, sorry! I thought you used to be involved with it.

Not something that needs an apology :)

If it can be organised quickly and people aren't fussed about presents potentially arriving late, I don't think it's out of the question. Are you willing to run it? If so, I'd suggest posting an "anyone interested in doing Secret Santa?" thread in Gen Chat (even if it gets moved to Games, the "moved" notice will still be visible). Otherwise, just put a note in your diary to ask again at the beginning of next October!

I think that's meant as an upper limit on what you're allowed to spend, not how much you have to spend.

I agree, especially if one has to add shipping costs to that. I agree with Felice that it is probably meant as the upper limit.

Nah, I don't feel up to the task now. I would want to participate first. And I don't think many people would join, seeing how abandoned this forum has been ... looks like tradition has been lost.

I am going to make my school kids do a classroom secret Santa thing though. I hope they will want to participate!

The idiotic thing is, my dentist didn't even explain to me what complications there could be otherwise. So for now I just don't know why this should be done at all. I will clear that up the next time I see her.

Any fun plans lined up?

Meeting the gentleman a lot is the most important! ;)

I also want to visit some relatives that I haven't seen in ages.

Well that certainly sounds like something they should have done. Hope the autumn break was fun and you had a lovely time with the gentleman and friends and family!

post is a bit whacky since covid too, at least the previous holiday season was a nightmare, it took 2-3 hours to post a package and they would take ages to arrive.

so I had a nice long weekend extended with a couple days off. I had a very sweet Halloween evening at home, then we did the regular cemetery rounds, then I went to visit my mum and the dogs. We had the most beautiful autumn weather for the couple days I was there. And I managed to drag mum down the pie rabbit hole with me. The sad part is, I gave her my pie dish to keep, and when I returned to the shop to get myself a new one - out of stock. I’m heartbroken and pie-dish-less.

Today sister and I went out for a hot chocolate, which was absolutely delicious and had a lovely walk to a bookshop and back. It was a chill, pleasant afternoon, and the hot chocolate was to die for. Im currently ordering Christmas gifts. I’m determined to get everything by the end of November.

It was okay, I am actually the most glad I managed to at least work on my dissertation a bit and found some motivation again. I need to keep that up. Now it's regular work at school again.

You are probably right. I haven't tried to post any packages in ages. I got a package delivered this week though, something I ordered online - apparently Book Depository finds its way to the Tiny Town too! :read:

Sounds fun. I hope you manage to get a new pie pot soon. Does that mean you are now on okay terms with your sister?

For how many people do you buy Christmas presents?

Yay for that! Motivation is key, I’m so glad you found it again, I’m sure it’ll be much easier to keep working on the thesis this way.

Thanks, I’m still scouring the internet for one <_<

oh yeah, since she moved out we get along beautifully. I don’t know if it’s the physical distance or we just both learned to handle the other, but it’s improved vastly.

7ish.

Also, what the hell is with this new forum outline (on mobile)? It looks weird. I barely found my notifications.

I really seem to be alone, but I love the sleek look. Which will actually not stay as I understood Ran. Oh well.

Yup. Although I didn't manage to get much done today, I was tired ... the gentleman slept over for the first time, and as much fun as that was, I am just not used to sleep next to somebody else. Especially with my lacking equipment as far as blankets and pillows are concerned, which makes it even more of a challenge.

That is great to hear. Does she live in the apartment you used to live in now?

It is weird for me still. It is okay on a laptop, but much worse on my phone.

*to the tune of What a Wonderful World*

"I see skins of blue....sketchy towers too..."

Secret Santa would have been fun, unfortunately I don't really have the time to organise it unless it was an itty bitty one and people were quick to reply etc.

How are we all?

Ah well. Maybe there will be more time next year.

I am well, busy with work and all, but actually in a good position in my life, apart from that pesky corona thing.

How are you? You haven't been here for a long time, soooo ... welcome back! :D

I am having trouble with this new look. The colours and the winter scene remind me of Christmas cards. It generally seems odd.

Maybe it is to remind you of the upcoming holiday season. My students have started singing Christmas songs back in September.

I am sleepy. I know I should go out for a walk and enjoy some fresh air, but I started teaching at 7 AM today ... tomorrow and on Friday I start at 7 too. And the parent talk hour tomorrow afternoon ... work is busy!

Oh yeah, it’s weird, definitely takes a bit to get used to having another human toss and turn in your bed.  Not that I had a lot of humans sleeping next to me for a while *awkward laugh* Two separate blankets certainly helps the pulling it off of each other. The ideal temperature is also a fun one…

Whyyyyyyy would you start teaching kids at 7am? Aren’t they still sleeping at such time? :bawl:

Actually I only have a single bed, which is squeezed between the wall and the back of the couch (so I climb onto it from the feet end of the bed - tiny studio flat). In order to be able to sleep next to each other, we pulled out the couch and both slept on it. It is relatively comfortable, as far as couches go, so that wasn't an issue. But I only have one soft bed pillow and one usual blanket, plus one woollen blanket. He used the only good pillow, my head was on the less comfortable edge-of-the-couch pillow, and we used the same blanket ... he was too warm and I am just not used to go to sleep touching somebody (obviously didn't want to stop touching either!). He slept surprisingly well, next to somebody (me) moving and trying to find a more comfortable position all night long.

Because as nice a workplace as this is, yeah, whoever was in charge when the work hours were discussed was crazy, I suppose. I mean, I got used to it now that I live close to work and come there in 15 minutes on foot. And I don't start that early every day. However, students generally start either at 7 or 7.50 every day, and some have a loooong bus or train ride to get here. I honestly don't know how some of them manage. They are tough little things. ;)

There's a Customizer button at the top next to Notifications and Messages that lets you change the background if you want something less wintery.

You can see the exact number if you move the mouse over it, if that helps.
