Sadly, Tyrion is too smart to have believed anything he thought about Shae. He had to know she wasn't right not for the situation, not for him at that time in his life. His thoughts were those of a lovesick puppy though he was paying the lady for her affection. How often did Shae remind him she was a whore? Yah, that was an epic failure on Tyrion's part. You may add Robb to that lesson as well. Theon says "We are like brothers"--something like that. Robb had to either be desperate for help or forgot just how tretcherous the Iron Born can be.
