Pence has released a statetment that he has no power to change votes, that the very idea is antithetical to the concepts under the US Constitution.

He's going to need armed guards for decades.

Statement not on the internet yet.

Haha, directly contradicting the statement that President Shithole put out yesterday where he called the NYT's story false and insisted that of course Pence has the ability to nullify electoral votes.

Trump famously froze out on his mentor in dirty tricks and ratfuckery, Roy Cohn, when Cohn was diagnosed with AIDS. Cohn remarked, "Donald must piss ice water" after being abandoned by his buddy.

I hope Donald enjoys getting ice water pissed on him by his erstwhile enablers, and he enjoys the same level of support that he gave Cohn at the end.

Sometimes you remind me of the lite version of Trump, Jr and Eric calling out "traitors".

He's just reporting the math here.

It's not about traitors, it's about who is going to use their leverage to blunt the Democratic agenda. We are less than 24 hours out from the Dems taking control of the Senate, and we already have one of the most prominent centrist Democrats coming out making excuses for why we won't be able to do the major things we need to do.

Ha! Yesterday? The Orange one was telling the crowds just 2 hours ago that he was expecting Pence to reject the votes.

"We will never give up, we will never concede!"

This is a good speech by McConnell. Fuck him for his role over the years in bringing us to this point. But it's a good speech.

At least until right now when he decided to start attacking Democrats. But I get why, he's trying to convince Republicans to drop the act and take the high road (lol), as it were.

You just did it again. "The Democratic agenda" is the one you agree with. Coons and everyone named a problem thus far are also Democrats. Ones who are (hopefully) representing their districts and states which is their job in a democracy.

His "excuse" is math and reality. And that folks are supposed to represent in a democracy.

If you have a problem with Coons or anyone on a specific issue, then by all means please speak up. But starting enemies lists because someone *might* not agree with you later is creepy.

How's about instead of bullying like the far right, the progressives and socialists put in a little work and try to sell their ideas beyond their bubble base.

Here's one gratis: You all have some major allies in rural voters in taking down corporate monopolies in farming and ag which can be a segway into more. If for once progs and socialists make the effort and stop complaining about the complaining not working.

Sure.  But you'll have to sit through a few panels.  The winter meeting, which is less fun and will be over zoom has panels like:

"As if They Didn't Have Enough Problems Already - Unanswered Tax Questions for Troubled Companies" chaired by yours truly.  The summer meeting is more fun, but the panels are the same.

So pack my leather pants, mesh shirt, no. 2 pencil, and a legal pad?

I don't see any teargas or rubber bullets or beanbags or cop cars running people down. Why go easier on rioting MAGAts than on the protesters on church grounds who were in the way of Trump's photo op?

Oh right.

They’re using pepper spray in this one.  It’s getting worse:

It's started.

Took a while, but it seems like the police are finally reacting with force.

I dunno, it seems to be working pretty well on the $2000 checks.  Biden went from being fine with no second round of checks to supporting $2k now.  Hard to believe the pressure from the left had nothing to do with it.

I generally think the idea that we can push them left is laughable, but it seems to have worked here.

On Garland, Ian Millhiser has a crystal ball!!!

So, congratulations to Jackson!  She should be a great justice and that better happen soon, as it's the only thing that makes it worth it.  As I said last night, I do not get Garland as AG.  I am not convinced he'll be as aggressive as necessary - especially compared to Yates or Jones - and I'm not convinced he's right for the job as an administrator - again, especially compared to Yates or Jones.  After last night there was no concern about getting Yates confirmed and Jones would have been overwhelmingly confirmed.  Other than elevating Jackson, it's very hard for me to see upside here politically or substantively.

However, as anticipated, he announced the rest of the top DoJ team to soften the blow, and it is outstanding:

Quote

Biden will also nominate Lisa Monaco as deputy attorney general, Vanita Gupta as associate attorney general, and Kristen Clarke as assistant attorney general for civil rights, per people familiar with the personnel decisions. The news of those pending appointments was first reported by the Associated Press.

Monaco served as Obama’s homeland security adviser and has been heavily involved in Biden’s transition. Gupta worked as U.S. assistant attorney general for civil rights in the Obama administration and is currently the president of the leadership conference on civil and human rights. Clarke is the president of the civil rights group, Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, and previously ran the civil rights bureau in the New York State Office of the Attorney General.

Gupta, in particular, is a great pick.  Hell, I'd much rather those three just occupy the top three spots.

Yeah.  I don't envy them.  There aren't great answers in deciding when to show force like this.  And you know at least some of the maggits are packing.  It's all REAL BAD.  Hope mass arrests ensue.

One thing I will note is that the Democratic coalition is pretty broad right now.  So while there is a very active progressive wing, there is also a pretty active moderate wing, and so there will be (and should be) compromises.  Hooray for functional governance for at least 2 years!

But that was my point. Sell it and look for allies in both the usual and the unusual places. It scored the likes of Hawley and other Rs.

Lay off the complaining and do the work.

They weren't pushed. They bought a good sales pitch.
