I am concerned what would be insurrectionists are doing right now. While the enhanced security may have scared them away; what happens a week, a month from now? Surely some of the disaffected will try something crazy, and it almost seems as you'd have to be on high alert for a significant amount of time.

Conversely, since Trump has (ungraciously) conceded defeat, maybe the temperature of the nation has dropped and a lot of motivation for the seditionistas has gone away. We'll see.....

I think the funny thing about it is that arrests do not deter the left from protesting (and since they have been protesting the police they expect the legal systems to be used against them)- but these types thing the military and police are with them. They truly did not think they would be held accountable, and arrests and outing on social media (and deplatforming them) I think is enough to deter them.

There’s a huge difference between people protesting for their civil rights and a bunch of cosplayers who didn’t get their way.

Roy Blount is pretty impressive at using an awful lot of words to say very little.

ETA: Actually, this second speech wasn't so bad. The first one he gave about an hour ago was rough though.

Jeez, Biden's family bible is massive. It looks like a tome Indiana Jones would go through to find a clue about where the holy grail is hidden.

Also, hey, President Biden!

Does it contain bonus content or maps?‘cause that thing is fucking huge.

Annnnd suddenly Executive Orders are undemocratic again. At least according to the cult. Keep in mind that these are same people who up until about a half hour ago were hoping Trump would use an EO to declare martial law and invalidate an election.

That's how bad things have been for these last years.  Joe Biden and the inauguration inspire this cynical historian, in our emergence from, what the poet spoke, "this terrifying hour." Amanda Gorman hit her poem right out of the park, her delivery perfect.

The coats chosen by the female participants and office holders were wonderful colors, again projecting joy and confidence.

The rule of law has taken quite a few hits in the US during the past couple of years, so he knows he can't just wave a pardon or make it go away.

IMO this only applies if those responsible for high crimes over the past four years are brought to justice.
